Well, stop I did, to see if they had a gift for a friend's birthday. First, I love any store that smells like balsam as you walk through the door. The scent makes me feel like a kid again. I'm not from Maine (have been here long enough to feel at home), but as a kid we used to drive here from Ohio and spend a few weeks going up and down the coast. The smell of balsam reminds me of these trips. Second, I was shocked by the variety they had. Maple syrup, Maine souvenirs, crafting supplies, wooden figurines, and antiques. The have a sign stating that they "glue chairs". I didn't know that was a thing, but apparently, it is... They also sell wreaths and Christmas trees during the appropriate season. And finally, the owners were as nice as could be. They had out hot chocolate for the kids, and they wrapped my little gift up neatly. This little shop is well worth the drive into town because of how darn cute it is!

The staff were helpful and welcoming, and there's a cute gift shop with White Mountain merchandise and local goodies. Public restrooms are also available. It's an easy pull off from the main road and a great first stop to get oriented to the area. There are also stamps here for people collecting travel book stamps. Kathy was especially great, she was very kind, helpful, and very funny. She went out of her way to make sure we had our trip planned out with all our questions answered. They also offer maps in multiple languages, including Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Hindi and I loved the accommodation. Overall, great stop to get acquainted with the White Mountains!

This little shoppe is right in the downtown area, off on a side street and next to the train museum. She is very friendly and affordable. The only place around to customize a photo or painting with a classy frame. We purchased a painting nearby and stopped in for a frame. Carla helped us choose a simple, yet attractive and well fitting frame for the picture. She gave us many options to choose from and has a great eye for art and colors. Since we had to leave the area that same day, we left the painting with Carla to frame it and paid upfront for the cost of the frame and to ship the painting. Scott's great! ----- Longer Review We traveled to South Tamworth, New Hampshire, by way of Boston, MA and then North Conway, NH, for the wedding of our niece to her husband. The trip was brief - Thursday evening to Sunday, but filled with family, fun, and some exploring. On Saturday morning, while our son did homework in the room, while my wonderful wife was exercising, our daughter and I explored North Conway, NH. While walking around we saw some shirts in the window and went into Noco Loco. By time we walked out we had found some awesome t-shirts and long-sleeve t-shirts for everyone - with something related to a moose on each one (continuing our collection that started in Yellowstone and Michigan's Upper Peninsula)! Our daughter found a hoodie sweatshirt and some sweatpants that she really likes. They also have magnets and other things celebrating the north woods of New Hampshire. Scott was a great help, who also informed us that, to preserve the colors in the clothes, we need to wash them a) inside-out, b) in cold water, and c) don't put them in the dryer.
