This Keys institution is a leader in marine research and scientific support. They have state of the…read moreart (and being updated) coral raceways and tanks that can house many different kinds of corals in a UV-purified saltwater system. They also have a laboratory and classroom available. KML is located in the City of Layton, midway between Key Largo and Marathon in the Keys, making them a great stopping point for any research going on throughout the Keys. They've rehabilitated corals due to the coral disease event, housed rescue corals from FWC's coral rescue program, helped with coral spawning, and done much more critical research. And if the location and facilities weren't enough, the staff here are top notch. They are very knowledgeable experts in their fields and always available to lend a hand or advice. They're the kindest people and genuinely care about making our oceans healthier.

Everyone was very professional and quick with their individual duties. I was rushed into cat scan and was immediately in conference video call with a specialist. I was admitted to be observed overnight and continued with a battery of test. Overall I think I was treated by over 50 people on the staff during my stay. My experience was excellent. The food was delicious. The entire staff all the way up to the doctors and video specialist were so caring and helpful. It was a terrific experience except for being scared almost to death. My cardiologist was out of the office beyond the time frame I needed and I'm in the keys and he's in California. By chance I thought I'd try to walk in to the Cedars Sinai cardiac office in Marathon. Even worse, it was right at lunch time so I figured my chances weren't looking good. I walked in and apologized for coming in during what was obviously lunch hour, but Marisol listened to my dilemma and got right to work. She was so accommodating and after working the phones and her magic, she had me an appointment with Dr Joan Homan in Key West for the next day. Dr Homan was terrific. After giving me a cardiac check up she gave me the clearance for surgery and brought up some other issues to pay closer attention to. Upon getting back to Marathon I had to check in with Marisol. She set up my follow up appointments and I was on my way. I must say, since coming to the keys and living pretty much full time here, you get used to the "Island Schedule". Would have probably had to reschedule the surgery but for Marisol making things happen and Dr Homan and the Key West team for squeezing me in to their busy schedule.

A couple of years ago, a falling rock tore up the back of my right leg. After getting it sewed and…read morestapled back together at the emergency room, I could not find a doctor for treatment but the doctor's office on Big Pine Key told me to go to the Nurse's Station. The Nurse's Station took great care of me and I recovered. This year, I had two cancerous lesions removed from the back of my left leg by a dermotological surgeon in Miami and I went back to the Nurse's Station for my continued care. I have now been pronounced well. Driving all the way from the Lower Keys to Miami and staying in the hotel overnight to see the doctor is very expensive and tiring. It's just not as good as just staying home to recuperate and going to the Nurse's Station. They also make sure that I am ok by calling and checking on me. I am only a patient but I rate the care that I received at the Nurse's Station higher than what I have received at hospital. I heartily recommend to anyone who needs care to go visit Dawn and Denise at the Nurse's Station.

The check in process was easy and fast. The nurse showed true concern for my issue. My wait for Dr. O'Connor was very short. He listened to my concerns. Was thorough and explained what my next steps would need to be clearly and precisely. I even went back for my pre admission testing. Unfortunately, it's not a visit to Marathon without a visit to Urgent Care. But so glad I have found a medical facility and staff that I trust while in the Keys.
