Super quick, very friendly, and easy money exchange. Today is October 1st, 2024 and I exchanged $220 for 4,000 Mexican Pesos. The transaction fee was an additional $3. They give you a wide variety of bills. And they said that as long as I keep my receipt they will waive a buy back fee if I decide to sell my leftover Mexican Pesos back to them. I can't remember, but the worker also said spend all coins as they don't give you a good rate on buying back coins. I was in and out in less than 2 minutes. read more

I came in to exchange $450 USD worth of Mexican Pesos and ended up losing $50 in the conversion alone--nearly 11% of my total--on top of a $5 service fee. ​I checked the mid-market bank rates for that specific day, and while I understand businesses have a spread, this margin is predatory. They really do try to work with you on a transaction it's just that one of the staff members was young, probably new and not knowledgeable on the currency so they had to call the boss a few times so it took a while. The other staff member didn't seem to know as well or just didn't want to help. I'd expect the staff to know more about currency types than me but I guess not this time. Wait time was a problem. There was a small line when we arrived but it became quite clear that the real problem was a single customer holding up the line since one of the two employees was involved with this individual who was on the phone constantly. If you aren't prepared to make the transaction then the customers waiting and that are ready should be taken care of and the problem transaction individual moved aside to make the resolution and enter into the line again. Lee Przywara and Ron are the finest examples of the good that is coming from the COVID-19 pandemic. In an attempt to make this Easter special for my daughters, I tried to obtain a small amount of currency from New Zealand, Australia and some Euros (France) for their Easter egg hunt. They each have been passionate about visiting these countries. Having this currency hidden in eggs for their Easter egg hunt would be the greatest surprise and gift for this Easter. I tried obtaining the currency from Chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of America and understandably, the currency had to be ordered well in advance and my idea came too late. I've come here often in the last several years that I've lived in Florida to exchange currency. Conveniently located in the mall I can always find plenty of parking and a helpful staff person. This time it's euros again but Krona as well. Always check the exchange rates not only in front of this kiosk But online as well in a Bloomberg news or something with the ticker. If you're not in a hurry for your exchanges you can always watch the currency as it does fluctuate American dollar versus European currency's. I've also done buy backs here coming home with a little bit of the excess euros I never have a problem returning or exchanging.Getting all the currency exchange prior to the excursions is much more beneficial than trying to do it at the airport when you land or at any local ATMs. Only a few banks handle foreign currency exchanges anymore and probably there mostly in New York. read more

I went to Bank of America (which I bank with) to buy some yen for my upcoming move to Japan. They informed me that they'd be happy to order it for me -- which would take a couple of days -- or I could go to the Currency Exchange counter in the food court of the West Shore Mall. I figured if the bank was endorsing it, then it couldn't be too bad. What BofA didn't tell me was that the Currency Exchange counter waives their service charge of BofA customers! All you have to do is wave your BofA debit card & poof, you save yourself $5. (If you're not a BofA customer, $5 still isn't a bad fee.) They match / beat all other rates, too. Their posted exchange rate would've cost me about $603 for 54,000 -- but Lee checked BofA's site & took a digit off of their exchange rate, bringing it down to $596. Not a huge difference, but any difference is great! As someone who travels to Japan a lot & therefore has to deal with currency exchange on a fairly regular basis, I have to say I'd highly recommend this place for all your money changing needs. They're open 7 days a week during all mall hours, too. read more

I've used this currency exchange several times prior to trips to London and Tokyo. The rates I've gotten have always been better than I could have gotten at Narita or Heathrow. It's conveniently located in the Westshore Mall food court, so a pit stop at Evos or PF Changs always makes the currency exchange go smoother. They also buy back currency but I've never tried that service as I always end up spending all my foreign money outside of the US. This is convenient for me and it saves a few bucks. It really is shocking that a very small number of places in Tampa will help you with a currency exchange. I came home with Korean won and had no clue what to do with it for a good couple of weeks. I finally made the drive over to the Westshore Plaza and the workers at Florida Currency Exchange quickly changed my Korean wons into dollar bills. The fees were very low as well (there are no fees in Korea though - should have exchanged before I left the country). Terrible experience. Have been going to this place in Westshore Mall for years but won't go again. We were traveling to Asia and wanted to have local currency. Since we have been exchanging currency for years with FCE, I asked one of my family members to do the exchange. We exchanged $1300 US dollars but only got $800 US dollars in Vietnamese dollars compared to the current market exchange rate. So they took a $500 commission on a $1300 exchange. What makes me mad is that if they really cared about their customers they would have told my family member at the time that their exchange rate relative to the market rate for the Vietnamese currency was awful. We would have still exchanged some dollars but certainly not as much. I realize that every business needs to make a margin. Nearly 40% on one transaction is outrageous and absolutely taking advantage of your customer. Advice to travelers - take just enough currency to get you by until you can get to an ATM in your destination. Can avoid FCE taking advantage of you. read more

Thank goodness for Florida Currency Exchange! My daughter was spending a semester abroad and, the day before she left, she told me she needed foreign currency. My bank couldn't get the money in time, so I called Florida Currency Exchange. We got a rate that was even better than what the bank had quoted! We got our money right away, and they also gave us a "cheat sheet" which showed how much my daughter would be spending in US Dollars for each denomination of Euros. I have had a friend go here to purchase currency and upon speaking to their corporate office they told her that purchase dinar and that it was a good investment. This is a common scam this company tells its customers to unload dinar onto unsuspecting buyers. I would be very weary of the currency you purchase through this company. The owner is not an honest man and within the business world has a very bad reputation. Sometimes certain people just do not have what it takes to be a successful small business owner, and this is the perfect example of that. So my advice is to just be careful when buying here. They are not having the customers best interest at heart. I would recommend having them match your banks rate and contact the bank to make sure that all the information they are providing you is correct. I repeat Dinar is never a good investment, I have been in the currency business for over 30 years which is why I know this company has poor practices when it comes to customer service. read more
