It was four years ago when we hired him for an addition project and he didn't stick to his time frame or the quoted price of the written contract, bringing up all kinds of excuses. He apologized sincerely, and we thought it just happened "by bad luck " ( Marvin's words). I didn't write a review for him then, believing that things happen.... We made a big mistake to hire him again for the second floor addition on top of the room he had built. The estimate was made in February, The job was started in April- estimated to be completed in July/August. We agreed to the price he quoted and payed the half for the beginning. After stripping the roof and putting the frame on top of the existing room, we found out that he didn't get the permit and had to stop the project until the approval. Our house got flooded several times because of the heavy rains. The tarp that he put up couldn't hold the weight of the water, and each time it rained, we had to be there to constantly dump the water out. The new floors and the walls got ruined; used and unused materials- destroyed. He would not respond to our calls or text messages, until we have decided to take a legal action against him. I am wondering how does he get any good reviews, which certainly do create a false impression.

A couple of things: 1) Bad Scheduling and Communication - the original work was supposed to be done in 2 days, but they said they needed a third day to complete the job. Sure, no problem...except they never showed up on the third day and didn't tell me. This is very unprofessional and inconvenient since my tenants set aside their day to make sure they were available to let them in. 2) Unprofessional-ism - As we scheduled to get the job done, more of the ceiling cracked so I made a mistake by asking them to fix the additional spot and see if other spots needed to be fixed proactively. They said yes, they can fix additional spots and paint the entire ceiling and the job will take 3 days. The worker comes to do the work on the first day, and never showed up on the following day. Again, no notice that they weren't going to show up and again, my tenants had set aside their days to let them in. This is the second time now so I was about to ditch this contractor, but they said they will absolutely finish the job on the next day 3) Bad Quality/craftsmanship - I posted before and after pictures. While the ceiling is "repaired" -- it looks horrible and I'll most likely have to get it redone. I had this done by another contractor 10 years ago on another spot and the finished product looked smooth so that you couldn't tell that the ceiling had been damaged at all. Not with this finished product though. I would have let #1 and 2 slide IF the end result was high quality of work. But the result is unacceptable to me and I worry that the more of the ceiling will crack since I have no confidence in their skills in this area. Beware other yelpers -- they don't have many reviews for a reason.

Joe was prompt to respond, knowledgeable, patient and extremely helpful. He even called our insurance, explained the issues and advocated for us! I was very impressed so we hired Riverside for the job. Joe's team just completed the job, it was done well but we did have some communication issues with the schedule half way through which resulted in the job taking longer than we had anticipated. I have to say though that once I told Joe I was feeling frustrated with the poor schedule planning and communication, he immediately fixed it and it didn't happen again. In fact, he gave us a discount for the trouble (and I didn't even ask). I would have taken a star away from Riverside for the bumps in the road half way through, but I appreciated they listened carefully and got back on track. If you need a contractor, Joe is the guy! He is easy to talk to, pays attention to the detail, and makes the customer feel he has your best interest in mind. I am confident he will take good care of you. Highly recommended!

I thought the estimate was reasonable (painting ceilings is not easy). The work was done in 3 days by one person. He took his time, cleaned up behind himself, and did a wonderful job.
