I am so impressed with how our instructor is patient and understanding of the kids feelings. The classes are set up with three kids to an instructor per half hour. Our son hated water! We took him to several other places to try to get him to swim. Forget it. Each time we wasted $$ and left frustrated. If we saw an instructor elsewhere, he would remember and state how "mean" they were. Someone suggested Floaties. The school was just getting ready to open the new location on Poway Rd. This review is long overdue... We've been going to Floaties for almost 2 years now. We started when my son was 5.5 months old. He swims with Ms. Tracy & I have nothing but amazing things to say about her. She is kind, nurturing, patient - yet stern with my son. We only go once a week but he still retains all he's learned from the week before, although he'd probably progress much more quickly with 2 lessons a week. The only thing I don't like about the facility is the changing room are so tiny & after each lesson it gets super packed on girls side. read more

Floaties in Poway has been an excellent swim school for our daughter. We have had 3 great teachers over the last year (Kira, Lorinne and Marissa). Our daughter has gone from sink to safety to swimmer in that time, and done so enjoying each lesson and each teacher. The front desk staff is always welcoming. You may read a couple negative reviews, but I find you get what you give. If you show up with a positive attitude and a willingness to let the instructors to do their jobs you will be more than satisfied. read more

Staff and teachers are good, but for a half hour session between 3 kids, each kid only gets about 10 mins. Found it a bit pricey for 10mins/session. Getting a private teacher for half hour might have your child learn swimming faster and you might get a better bang for your buck overall. read more

We have been swimming here for 12 weeks! The staff is professional but also have a love for kids that shows in the way kids respond to their lessons. Their method is teaching swim through playing! I am amazed at how quickly my kids became "pool safe" in coming to Floaties. We are so glad to have come to be part of this amazing school and highly recommend it to others. Super awesome staff and so great with kids. The locker room is small & crowded, though, so I'd recommend changing your little one in the car. Some of the parents are a little OCD cray cray as it it pertains to another instructor stepping in for an absent one, but that's actually kind of fun to watch, because they just make fools out of themselves in public...and who doesn't love that kind of a show? I only feel for the staff when those holier than thou moments of obnoxiousness present themselves...speaking of which: the front desk is always so helpful and friendly. They're all quite young, but very respectful and eager to accommodate our ever changing schedule. Honestly, every instructor I have seen and interacted with at floaties is great, and each has a different skill set (or method of instruction) to offer your child. I do wish privates were an option. That would be a great addition to layer into the group lessons. read more

My 5yo is comfortable in the water, but still needs help in becoming a strong swimmer. Coach Gage is great with him!!! The coach gives full attention to the kids during lessons; all the kids look to be having a great time, but they are doing so while also following the rules, being water safe, and practicing new swimming skills. This is the second swim school I've used and I enjoy the fact that this school is a fully structured business with it's own facility. At our previous school, getting a live person on the phone was a huge challenge, and leaving a voicemail didn't always mean you'd get a call back. My son would not even put his face in the water when we started here. They were patient, and stuck with him. He now happily jumps in and swims across. He will be starting up again next week. I'm completely impressed. We tried other schools, who lost patience with him fast. Their approach works! My only slight complaint is class size, while it is around 6 kids, half an hour doesn't give him as much time as I would like, however, seeing his peers paddle around probably drove him to do things he would not have otherwise. I never had an issue with scheduling and never had the high turnover I hear about here. He had two teachers in 6 months. That's not high turnover IMO. read more

We've been at Floaties in Poway for a year now and really love it. My daughter enjoyed water as a baby and then became very fearful of swimming just before turning 2. We started her at Floaties and she cried each lesson, scared to even put her feet in. Her instructor was patient, knowledgeable, and consistent. Little by little, our daughter became used to the water and learned important survival skills. Now she loves swim lessons every week- it's one of her favorite things! You do have to be okay with a louder, humid, indoor pool environment. We also don't use the changing room area because it's small and crowded. We just arrive already dressed in a swimsuit and then shower at home. You also need to be okay with a variety of instructors (they change fairly often and sometimes there are subs), and your child will share the 30 minutes with 2 other children. I personally like that my daughter has now had several instructors... I didn't want her swim success to be dependent on one particular teacher being in the water with her. I also like the social aspect of the small group lesson- it keeps it fun for my daughter as she's learning more challenging skills. One last thing- I've always had positive, warm interactions with the girls at the front desk. Great customer service! I definitely recommend Floaties, especially if your child is young and/or has fears of water. read more

The instructors are great - my kids love Robert, Greg, Sharon and Kathryn and they have learned so much in the past few months. We've had our now 3 year-old in lessons at Floaties in Poway since she was 6 months old and couldn't be happier. Living near the beach, and having regular access to pools, I wanted her to be comfortable in and around the water. Initially, I just wanted her to be able to hold her breath long enough for someone to pull her out of the water if she fell in. 2 years later, she's absolutely fearless around water and doesn't get scared, even when waves knock her down, or she's starting to get pulled out by a rip current. The skills she has learned over her time at Floaties are priceless. She now has a little sister who's also going to be a Floaties kid soon. A few things about my experience and tips: 1. The classes are only 30 minutes, and your child shares the class with 2 other kids, at the most. These lessons are about quality, not quantity. The teachers know that kids get tired quickly and once tired, they don't learn the skills they need. For that reason, the lessons are just 30 minutes. Over time, the basic skills they learn early on are built upon for more complete swimming abilities. The teacher tailors the time your child spends in class to him/her. Floaties likes to put kids of similar age/skill level in the same classes, but I think that's a good thing. If you have an infant, be prepared to get in the water with your child. (This makes the changing process a little complicated at first but you'll figure it out) 2. The changing room. It's mayhem. At least the women's is. The moms from the class that is ending are trying to get their kids showered and changed while the moms from the class that is about to start are trying to get their kids, changed into swimsuits and into the pool before class starts. I like to get there about 15 minutes early and change in the playroom before class. To avoid the after-class wait for the shower, I usually let my daughter play outside for 5-10 minutes and then go in. You could also just skip the shower altogether. I just don't like the chlorine to stay on her skin. My husband tells me that the men's changing room is not like this at all. 3. We had a couple of schedule changes since we started and the front desk always worked with us to ensure that we didn't lose any of our pre-purchased lessons. As long as we gave plenty of notice, everything was fine. Some teachers have a longer waiting list than others, but they'll work with you to get what you want. read more

My kids have been going to Floaties for a couple of months now. My kids never put their heads in the water. They were always scared. The first lesson they were already going under water! By the 4th lesson they were floating on their own. I was impressed! Their teacher Miss Denise is awesome. My kids love her. She is very patient. The place is an indoor pool so they can have lessons all year round. There are a lot of kids that take lessons so if you have them take it on Saturdays it can be very busy and look very chaotic in the pool. But they seem to have a system down. The only thing I can complain about is the front desk. Sometimes they are not helpful and moody. But other than that this place is great and I highly recommend! read more

This is the worst school We have ever went. I paid in advance for the lessons. We went vacation for three month and I froze my lessons before we left. When we come back the front desk told me All the lessons have expired just because i called one day late. They Do Not give refund! They just take the the money away. Ridiculous rule. I took my two girls here for lessons and I was very happy. I have a two year old and a five year old and my husband and I loved this place! My two year old hated it at first she was terrified and would cry and she still cant swim but loves to be in the water now!! My five yer old loved it. We were very satisfied and the price was fairly reasonable. We will hopefully be enrolling them again in the winter time when our pool gets cold. Its worth it and I recommend it. Pros: 1 -Saltwater pool (It's easy on baby eyes which for us took away a lot of the fear... a huge plus. It's also a warm, indoor pool (no sun burns or shivering children) 2- They teach all ages from 3 months up 3- Great instruction and instructor to student ratio Cons: 1- Noise ( It is extremely hard to handle the volume in this echo chamber. I went to Floaties for an adult swim class to get some help on my techniques. Brian was very helpful and I got a lot out of an hour. There were only 4 adults so there were sufficient individual attention for a group class. There were literally every level in that class, from someone learning to float to improving techniques and Brian was very encouraging and gave exercise for each person in between coaching. The only downside is that you're in a kiddies pool that is super warm, and also makes me nervous about the water to pee ratio... :P read more

This swim school is the best - the instructors, led by seasoned vet Maritza are amazing. My son has autism and he receives the best support from Dennis who specializes in instructing kids on the spectrum. Both of my girls have swam with various instructors. My younger started with Ms. Tracie (their infant instructor) then progressed to Ms. Cortney. Since Ms. Cortney's departure, both of my girls began swimming with Ms. Marley. All three of their swim teachers have been amazing and we are so fortunate to have found a school with amazing instructors. Ms. Marley knows how to make swimming fun while teaching our girls how to swim as well as teaching them swim safety. Last summer my oldest (age 4 at the time) would not go in a pool without having an adult at arm's reach. It took a lot of coaxing to get her to even hold her breath underwater. This summer is another story. Marley has been amazing and I am so thankful that my girls have her as a swim instructor. My oldest (now age 5) jumps in the pool and swims across the width during swim lessons!!! She even asks Marley if she can do backflips underwater! Marley is a natural with kids, always calm, talks directly to them in a fun but stern tone. read more

My son has been coming here for 3 month and both of his teachers have been awesome! The facility is clean and well maintained and the staff at the front desk is friendly and helpful. The pool is pretty small but they seem to manage even with a lot of kids. The only negative I have to say is that some of the teachers socialize during the swim classes a LOT not even paying attention to the kids they're supposed to teach how to swim. Great things to report about this place! I have two kids (2,5) and was referred here by my neighbor! Cleo was our designated coach and has been our coach for every lesson! She's very patient, makes the kids feel at ease and articulates directions very well. After coming twice a week (on evenings) I slowly realized it was peak time and very busy. I wanted to move to earlier classes to miss the rush. I worked with Ashlyn and Yasmen on the front desk to move and reschedule our weekly swim times. Both Ashlyn and Yasmen did everything within their power to accommodate my busy schedule and to get my kids in, at less busy times. I would give the facilities a 'B' but the trainers, staff, front desk team an easy A+! Highly recommend teaching your kids to swim here! read more

Everything was perfect about this place until the swim instructors for my 2 yr old kept changing. My son had 3 different instructors in a matter of 6 months. No consistency, how is my son suppose to advance if he needs to keep meeting new instructors every 2 months!! Today Saturday we show up for my son's 8:30am class to find out that apparently his schedule was changed permanently to Thursdays in the afternoon we never received notification nor made a request to change his schedule! So then then the front desk informs us that there is a spot available for my son on Saturdays but until 9am with a different instructor! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Another instructor!! We spent 2 weeks getting our son comfortable with his instructor and now we have to change it AGAIN!! This is a mistake YOU made, why do we have to change our schedules for you!!! We still have 4 sessions left, but after today we are NEVER coming back! We are beyond disappointed!! read more

My 4 month old started swim lessons with Havana a few weeks ago. We LOVE the lessons and the 3:1 ratio is perfect. My first complaint is the lack of a time to come "practice". My kid is a fish in the water and I would love the opportunity to bring him once during the week to an open swim. The lessons are slightly expensive with no added perks. Second complaint, like most others is the shower/bathroom situation. Would love to be able to rinse off and change without clawing my way to the shower. read more

Floaties is an amazing place for kids to learn how to swim and be safe in the water. At the beginning of my four year old's first lesson he wanted nothing to do with swimming. He sat on the step and sucked his thumb. His instructor, Whitney, was so patient and reassuring that by the end of the lesson he was giving high fives and smiling. He now knows how to safely swim to the edge of the pool and get out if needed. We just started our 18 month old and her instructor, Havanna, is equally amazing. At the end of every lesson the instructors let you know what skills they were working on and what they will work on next time. I would absolutely recommend Floaties. read more
