We just finished a 12 lesson course for our 2.5 year old. The instructor (Ms. Courtney) was great. My son did not like all the noise and comotion and was very timid. She did great with him and over time he warmed up to the experience. My knocks on the place: You share the 30 minute lesson with 2 other children so really your kid gets about 10 minutes of instruction. At a cost of $235 that comes out to basically $20 for 10 minutes. Going further that means you are really paying $120 an hour! At that price I think you might ba able to find something else?? My second gripe was that my sons Saturday class was not full so the instructor got all the "make-up" kids and this just made the experience different than his Thursday class where all the kids were the same each time. All in all the instructors were AMAZING with the kids and seemed very natural with them. For me in the end the loading up of the car and trucking everyone over to their poway location for 10 minutes of instruction was not worth it. Maybe if my kid progressed faster or took to it quicker my tune would be different but I lacked to see the value. I gave it an extra star just because the instructors were so awesome. read more

I would NOT recommend Floaties what-so-ever. I brought my two children here once a week for just over a year. A few weeks after I pulled my kids out of this school, my youngest fell in the jacuzzi and went underwater. He was totally calm but did not move a muscle. The stair was inches from him but instead he sat motionless underwater until my husband jumped in to pull him out. My oldest had at least five different instructors during the time we were there. It wasn't always discussed with us prior to the change and the instructors never had a clear idea as to what he was currently learning - each time it was a new person, we started all over again from go. I moved him to a new swim school and had him assessed. He has the abilities of an infant in the pool - no joke. Such a waste of over a $1,000 spent at this school. Based on the strong athletic ability of my oldest, there is no way you can convince me that once a week in the pool for a year couldn't even produce an unassisted "safety circle." read more

Going to Floaties and seeing ALL the kids swim is amazing and inspiring. My son who is almost two now has been swimming with Jenna for several months. Jenna is very patient and focused when swimming with him. My son and all the other kids I see swimming with her seem to like her a lot. They show that they trust her. She is very good about focusing on the most important aspect to swimming, which is safety. Now, my son is learning to reach with his hands while swimming, being comfortable floating on his back, crab-walking on the wall, and jumping into the water off the ledge of the pool (under instruction). He is constantly practicing staying safe by learning to sit on the seated edge of the pool, staying calm in the water and learning to reach to the pool edges if the situation arises where he is submerged in water. Floaties has a great play area for the kids to enjoy before and after swimming. The swimming pool is indoor and saltwater, which is great! The downside is that the changing room can get quite crowded, but we all seem to make do. The staff has always been really helpful and friendly. The facility always seems to be decently clean. read more

My son has been a swimmer with Floaties for 2 full sessions now. The facility is clean and the instructors are very nice. The staff does seem to turn over regularly and my son had 3 different instructors in a 3 month period. However, with what they have taught my 3 year old son he was able to swim to the top of my mothers pool "after falling in" and nobody noticing him. Without these very important swim lessons something much more worse could have happened and I do thank them for all that they have done. read more

My boy has grown from an 18 month old boy afraid of the water into a little jumping and swimming machine, thanks to Mr. Rob! Looking at all the reviews on yelp i thought this place would be great, sadly this isnt the case. It seems there turn over rate is pretty high because my son has gone through many instructors, and the instructors didnt seem well traiined at all, like they took a day class an became certified. Bottom line I would not recommend this school and didnt see much of a improvement in his swimming. the only thing is nice is the facility itself but thats not what matters the quality of the instructors are. read more

Decided to enroll my (then 9 month old) at Floaties because of all of the great reviews and I wasn't disappointed. Mike, who is also the owner, is my son's instructor and he's great with him and the other kids. My son loved the water the moment he got in and in just over a week, he was already going underwater and even kicking his legs (instinct of course). The facility is really clean and I haven't had to deal much with the other staff except the front desk. It's super busy there and hectic in the changing room if you are there at the peak hours; and parking can sometimes be hard to find also during peak hours. Overall, we've had a really good experience so far and we'll be here for a while! read more

This place is great! My son's instructor is awesome. He's very friendly and attentive! My son has improved so much in just 2 weeks with 2 30 minute sessions a week. The bad thing about this place is the size of the pool itself. It's very crowded especially during a week night. We have not done lessons here as my daughter is a natural "fish" :) and learned to swim in our pool. But we did just have a school fundraising event here. Basically the school Painted Rock Elementary held an online auction and parents bid for "time with teacher". We bid for the Floaties swim school party. The place was great! I had heard of this place as it is pretty popular in Poway/RB and it really is all that its hyped up to be! There were maybe 20-25 kids, 2 teachers and at least 5 young men which were the entertainment/instructors. Within seconds of being in the water the party was in full force! The guys were so so so great with all the kids (Ages 5-7). They did contests, they tossed the kids up in the air, it was just like at home watching my husband play with the kids in the pool. I didn't fear for anyone's safety during the party. Some of the moms had younger kids who played in the great and roomy play area with plenty of stuff to occupy them. We had such a great experience I am hoping to have my daughters birthday party here. Tips: *It is an indoor swimming pool so it will be loud- this may not be best for children with sensory sensitivities or who have anxiety in crowded areas but majority of children will have a blast here. read more

Floties is an amazing swim school for kids. my daughter Savannah (4yrs) has been going to swim at Floties from the age of 9months old on and off. She has had a few different swim instructions in that time frame and all of them have been excellent. They are so positive, patient and kind. They work on swim fundamentals and pool safety. The staff at the front counter are so nice and understanding. They work hard to make sure that your kid has the best teacher for them. Floaties!!!!!!! We call it swimies at our house. I ask my 13 month old if she's ready for swimies and she nods a huge YES! I am a major water baby myself and so is my husband. It's hard not to be when you've been raised in San Diego. Every day is a beach day. Since our daughter has no fear of the water, even ocean waves, we figured we better get her into some lessons. 2 times per week for a month has done WONDERS for our girl. I was terrified of dry drowning, and Hailey, our instructor has given me confidence that my daughter is holding her breath. A few inhales, and an occasional swallow, but I'll take it! I know the signs to look for when she is actually struggling. My sister had the audacity to dunk my babe at the pool a week ago, (3 weeks into our lessons) and thank the lord for floaties, my daughter held her breath and was not even phased. Floaties has a strange scheduling process, but it's what works for them. No biggie. Parking can be nuts some days, and other days it's dead. The reviews about locker room space are 100% correct. It's awful when it's busy. No changing table, just shelves. I just go out to my car. Whoever designed this building was far off. It would have been best to create a separate men's and women's locker/bath combination instead of 4 different rooms. I should be able to change myself (when swimming) and pee, without having to go to a separate room. Waste of space and annoying. Only complaint. Play room for kids waiting their turn or for siblings. Great area for viewing, and they also allow you to sit poolside. Wonderful place. read more

We enrolled our son last October when he was 4 years old and in 6 months he has learned so much. Coach Rob was his instructor the whole time and was great with him. I recommended this place to a friend whose daughter had a really bad experience at another place and now she loves getting into the water too. The staff is wonderful. My kids teacher, Jamie, is amazing! She is so great with the kids! I wish she was also their nanny and pre-school teacher! It broke my heart to not renew my membership ..... she was so great and warm and caring toward kids. I liked Floaties a lot (we were there 6 weeks) but it was kinda pricey for us. I wish the pool wasn't so loud. I mainly don't like how some parents drop off their toddlers because since it's a 1:3 ratio, while an instructor is out teaching one kid how to swim across the pool, the two toddlers sitting on the bench start fidgeting and getting hyper and bored and before you know it they're almost in the 4 foot water. The instructor can't watch them every minute because they're helping the other kid at the other end of the pool. Other instructors also in the water are busy watching their own 3 kids. I felt like I, as a sitting parent right behind my kids, had to keep an eye on those kids kinda near us because nobody else was. Advice to parents: Stay there with your kid. After all, you shouldn't ever believe your toddler is 100 percent water safe. And how can an instructor watch all 3 kids at one time when they're 40 feet away if they only have 2 eyes? My daughter has had a bad experience by falling into a Jacuzzi and had developed a fear of the water. However, after 3 months at Floaties she is an absolute fish! She now LOVES swimming and has been moved up to the next level. We have been through several instructors- but as a business owner- it is difficult to keep high school/college age instructors- however I was not unhappy with any of the instructors. It is very busy- but We really do love it and intend to continue to keep her enrolled. I would definately use this company! read more

Awful experience. Teacher was nice and helpful but the place itself is a zoo. Maybe it was because we had our lessons on Saturdays but the pool is too small for all those kids to be in it at the same time. Multiple classes happening. I would say about 50 kids at once with 10-12 teachers plus some parents. Dressing rooms were small and uncomfortable. No chairs or benches inside the dressing rooms. Only one shower for all those kids. They don't provide soap or shampoo. We are not coming back ever. read more

The summer of 2011, I experienced a scare like no other. My then 1.5 year-old-son made a mad dash for a friend's hot tub and jumped right in and sunk to the bottom. Fortunately, another friend was right behind him to pluck him out but I had never been so scared in my life. The scariest part was after that incident, my son still had no fear of the water. I had heard about Floaties Swim School and decided I needed to enroll my son ASAP. He started lessons at Floaties and took to his instructor, Mr. Damon, right away. Mr. Damon and the entire staff showed a lot of patience (my son is VERY active) and compassion toward my son but most importantly they taught him water safety and how to swim within 4 months and before the age of 3! My other son, 7, also took lessons at Floaties Swim School and thrived in the water. By the end of the summer my sons were swimming wing-free and racing each other in our pool. My youngest continues to take lessons at Floaties and now has Mr. Nick who is also just as patient and a perfect personality fit for my son. In addition to the instructors, the owners and front desk staff are also amazing. They have always been very accommodating to our ever-changing schedule. Not once have I experienced any issues. I have had my eighteen month old daughter in classes at Floaties for 3 months now. I have been really happy with her progress all along, but I have been thrilled to see her actually swimming already in the last couple of classes. All of the research I have done said to expect up to six months for her to learn how to swim with only taking a lesson once a week. I have friends who have had their babies in swim classes for far longer than we have and they aren't even close to swimming yet. Not only is my daughter already swimming, but she LOVES her teacher and the other students. It's a supportive, loving, fun environment and I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for the best swim school in town! read more

My grandson had his 1st swim lesson at Floaties when he was 3 months old. He is currently 2 years old and the one activity that he looks forward to each week is attending his swim lesson. Every employee that I have had 1 on 1 interactions with has been outstanding. Management has been extremely accommodating of schedule changes that I have made & requested. At his age I'm not looking for him to swim laps, but one valuable lesson that he has learned is how to pull his body weight up & out of the pool on his own. He has learned that safety can be found by going to the side of the pool and getting out. "Elbow, elbow, knee, knee!" He literally recites it while hiking himself up out of the pool. I'm 100% confident that his skill level will increase in time. It's a process. Like mastering any other skill it will take proper instruction, time & practice. Our son had lessons at three other places, but he had a complete aversion to getting his head under water (or even getting it wet). Suddenly at Floaties, his aversion has disappeared. He's swimming underwater, quickly advancing with his strokes, and having a really great time. All the instructors and the folks at the front desk are really friendly. I Have nothing but good things to say about this swim school. the staff has been very friendly from the beginning and has always been able to answer my questions or requests very quickly. I have been bringing my 2 year old daughter her now for 5 weeks and she has been doing very well. Mrs. Lorraine is her teacher here and she has been patient and caring to our daughter since the beginning. My daughter has picked her teachings up quickly and enjoys being around her ( and that is never the case around a stranger). Floaties made our 3 kids SAFE IN THE POOL. The teachers are amazing, kind people who LOVE their jobs and put their hearts into it. Our 4th child started the youngest and she's still going strong twice a week learning how to swim and learning more safety. They teach the kids to swim in a natural, progressive way and they not only teach the kids how to be safe but how to make sure others are safe when they are swimming. We love Floaties! My son has been going every week since he was 3 months old and he loves the water. He is now 3 yrs old and adores Mr Mike, Mr Tim, and everyone at the facility. I have never had an issue with any of the staff and find the other parents to be a great resource of information not only about swimming, but the community and things in general. It is a great atmosphere for learning and has been very beneficial to our son's growth and self confidence. I would highly recommend checking them out and you will not be unhappy that you did. Floaties??? Really? Is that the best name you could come up with for a swim school. I mean, the 1st thing that comes to mind after I hear this name is an image of a drowned kid floating...seriously. How about "swimmies"? That aside, they know how to make kids float while still breathing. My kid learned to keep herself alive by going here this summer. Not impressed. I couldn't get a class for my kids at the time I needed and was put on the wait list. There didn't seem to to be an efficient system for dealing with the wait list. Other parents got their kids into classes quickly compared to me. The young girls at the front desk weren't very helpful...seemed more interested in playing on the computers. We spent over $700 on lessons twice a week for our daughter ... we then switched her to private swim lessons and within 5 sessions our 3 year old is a little fish who loves to swim . I am extremely disappointed in the customer service and instructors at Floaties. We were at Floaties for approximately 4 months and during that time we had 4 different instructors. Please save your money and send your kid(s) elsewhere. read more
