Our original reservation was for 5:30, but I got stuck at work. The staff pushed back our reservation til 7:00 without a problem. They made sure we had all the safety instructions and that we still got our full 90 minutes on the water. A very pleasant customer service experience. The boat itself was a clattering old thing, but it worked fine. We couldn't go very fast, but that was probably for the best as my partner had never driven a boat before. It was a beautiful summer week night, and the lake was full of sailboats, tall ships, kayaks, canoes, paddle-boarders and even planes overhead. It felt like being in a busy city park like Christie Pits or Trinity Bellwoods, but so much more beautiful. We brought burritos and soda with us and had a little water picnic in a hidden nook by the Island, and then we watched the sun go down behind the city skyline. One of the best dates I've ever been on and a thoroughly relaxing experience. I plan to go back and get a bigger boat to cruise around with some girlfriends.

I've rented their small speedboats quite a few times in the past and once this year. The website…read morementions that "Our fleet is in great shape...". Well I haven't come across that fleet yet. I'm not sure why I keep coming back here, if it wasn't for my little nephew, I wouldn't. The boats are crap and not well maintained. Slow speed I can understand but I have yet to sit in one of their F13 motor boats that didn't want to, or that didn't die in the middle of the lake. Last time I rented for an hour, they had to come and get me because they didn't put enough gas. Not bad if everything is working fine but take your cell phone with you in case you get stuck in the middle of the lake! Positive: If you don't have one, you don't require a boating license.

The clubhouse is situated at the end of Gordon street and offers a fantastic view of lake Ontario. Amenities are much like those from a well kept small resort with the convenience facilities like the showers, a staffed bar, multiple outdoor patios and communal BBQ for the members and their guests. Since we joined towards the end of this year's boating season, we did not get to experience the regatta and other fun activities like the Octoberfest planned by the club, but we're looking forward to enjoying the full experience next year.

From intro sailing for little kids (called Mosquitos) to more advanced sailing programs (White Sail) to advanced sailing techniques and racing (Broze, Silver, Gold), the WYC is a superb place for smart, active, eager kids who love the water and want to learn many life lessons and skills they will hold onto for the rest of their lives. Our favourite instructor Ian has moved on and now Emma has taken over. My son raves about Emma and the other instructors. Both on water and classroom instruction. The little kids play games too and have fun. Sunscreen required...at least SPF 45, applied at least twice a day. At the end of the year there is a banquet and the kids get their diplomas, have a meal and awards are handed out. Trust me, this is a great summer program. Space is limited. Go to www.wyc.ca and check out the summer school brochure and schedule. We're not members of the club, you dont need to be either. I hope a couple of members review the club itself...seems like a great group of people.
