He had asked for extra jalapeños and cheese, and if the light dusting is "extra", I'm assuming they usually come with next to nothing. For some reason we also thought it would be a queso cheese (maybe just overlooked the description on that), but found out they CAN for an extra charge. He said he's willing to give em another shot if we go again as long as he can get queso instead of shredded cheese. Unsatisfied by the nachos, my vegetarian husband decided it would be a meat cheat day and got the onion smash burger. He said it was way better than the nachos, but too salty. Both girls got the kids popcorn chicken basket and tater tots. Nothing homemade, just some deep fried freezer food. I got the 6 piece traditional wings with a sweet and spicy sauce. It was sweet, but very little spice. The chicken itself was okay, better than the my last couple of wing endeavors at other restaurants. Maybe a different sauce would make them better. They came with a couple of bites of super stringy celery, but at least it was fresh and not floppy. Sooo. That's all the bad/ugly. The "good" of the visit was the vibe. I think the last time I came to red dirt was when I was a couple of kids lighter and came with the late night crowd to indulge in a more liquid type of indulgence. I remember it being loud, crowded, with minimal chill. So I was a little skeptical that this is where my husband wanted to eat with a two and five year old. But. We got there right at opening and were the first ones there. Which is PERFECT. Even when the first few bar patrons trickled in, no one was bothered by my girls casually wondering around our table instead of sitting still. My most recent memory of Blondie's was seeing some guy get a beer bottle bashed over his head. Never saw that before in real life. I thought that kind of thing only happened in movies. You see, this middle aged fellow was there with his new girlfriend. But his ex-girlfriend was also there -and likely already had quite a lot to drink. Seems natural. Rejection can lead to lots of drinking. Rejection can lead to fighting as well. Anyway, these two ladies get into it. Their fists start flying. The boyfriend just had to jump in between and separate the two. In one fluid, sweeping motion, ex-girlfriend swiped a longneck beer bottle off a table and smashed it on the back of the guy's head! The movies never show just how much a head bleeds when a glass bottle is smashed on it. I mean this poor guy bled all over the back of his shirt. I'm sure he needed several stitches at the hospital. Reasons for the two star review? The bar is tiny. It's in a crappy area of town. If you're not worried about getting your ass kicked inside you're going to be worried about your car getting jacked outside. And besides, I just bought a huge mug of beer when that guy got the bottle smashed on his head. The cops got there and we had to leave. I think I had only two or three sips out of that mug. Arrgh!
