Okay so when I first walked in I was definitely thrown off with the smoking in the bar area thing but I am so glad that it didn't run me off. The restaurant side was very cozy and clean. Our server was named Chloe and such a precious soul and gave off the vibes of a complete aura of peace! The food was yummy so far. We had the bacon cheddar broiler and fried pickles. This review is to serve only as a warning that you might want to ask questions ahead. I have a friend group and we go to Flip's all the time. We love the patio and the relaxed atmosphere. This past Saturday there was a food issue. The loaded fries did not live up to their usual quality and tastiness. Several at the table dish and were all agreed the dish was quite salty and tasted a bit like the oil used for the fries was rancid. Came for dinner. I wanted something quick, so I ordered the tenders and fries with Buffalo sauce on the side. The meal came out pretty quickly. So, on first look, the tenders looked really good fries, not so much. Fries I believe are fresh cut, so they are kind of soggy. But I mean it's to be expected. The tenders were pretty big, which was good. The only issue I had with the tenders was that they had absolutely no flavor at all. I've been to the flips in the Fort Worth area, and they had flavor. Regardless, they were big, so I ate a few and ended up taking some for later. The meal set me back about 14 dollars which was og for the amount. With a 2 1/2 year old and a 2-month-old, we are pretty focused these days on places with a wide but simple menu and not fancy when going out with our son and daughter-in-law. Sports bar type places early in the dinner hour fit the bill quite well. So, we tried another different one with Flips. Compared to some others, we all felt the burgers at Flips were better than many competitors. I had a special Brat Burger and it was superior - burger, brat, sauerkraut on a pretzel bun. Our server even suggested that this particular burger did not come with much vegetable garnish, so he asked if I wanted a plate of lettuce, tomato and pickle on the side, which I did. Nice touch. My wife and daughter-in-law each had the Bleu Queso burger and did not stop raving about it. And my son had the suicide jack burger and also had nothing but good things to say. We all liked their fries a lot. Our grandson had the kids chicken tenders, which were huge - adult size serving - so plenty left. We had started with a pretzel and queso that we all agreed was average at best. Good drink variety. Where this restaurant gets marks against it is the ambiance itself and the table selection. For our party, which amounts to space for six, they didn't have anything that fit. All of the larger tables like that are high top, and that doesn't work for a 2 1/2 year old. We crowded into a booth designed for four people. It also just felt a tad dirty and dingy. Also the smaller sectioned off rooms, rather than one big room, gave it an even more cramped feel. So, while the food was good, I would not necessarily call this restaurant family friendly from a space perspective. I will start by saying that this is one of the few places that has indoor smoking. Grandfathered in from before they outlawed indoor smoking areas. So if that bothers you then you may wanna go on the patio. Other than that flips is a great place to hang out, watch some sport and eat and drink. I can confidently say that he is the reason I'm able to write an amazing review and want to return. His humor accompanied by his professionalism makes for the best kind of server. We called ahead to see if they had a Bloody Mary bar, we were told yes. When we arrived we found out they had bloody Mary's, but not the DIY Bloody Mary bar we were expecting. The migas was very average. Basically scrambled eggs with black beans. The black beans had no flavor and clearly came out of a can. The chiliquiles and queso were good! Didn't know how this review was going to turn out after reading the previous reviews. Determined that I would review on this visit alone. Attended a college alumni get together at Flips in Grapevine to watch a football game. It was great seeing fellow grads. As has been reported in other reviews, upon entering Flips, I could smell the smoke. It was not overwhelming but definitely noticeable and disappointing. I would have thought that after negative reviews on this very point, ownership would have done something, or something more effective by now. The glass separator is definitely not sufficient. Maybe, ownership will invest in a more effective air handler for the smoking area. We were in a private room about as far from the smoking area as possible and could still smell the smoke. We did close the doors to the room and basically forgot about it. There was one TV screen in the room. The only problem was that we were told there was no way to route the sound from the TV to the speakers in the room without having also aired in the rest of restaurant. Frustrating, but we found an app that could stream the broadcast over several cell phones. I had the beef fajita nachos. They were plentiful and although not very warm, they were sufficiently warm. They were typical of what is expected at a bar. I found them acceptable with plenty of melted cheese, beef, pico de gallo, and sour cream. The star of the show was our server Nicki. We sat in the far corner due to the fact that this location smells of cigarette smoke if you sit near the bar or door. I've been coming here for years and finally decided to write a review. They're always fast to sit you down as front of house service is very quick. They do have a killer outside patio with fans and mist systems to keep you cool if you prefer this Texas heat during the summer, or a enclosed indoor smoking bar on this inside of the restaurant if that's more your style. We chose to sit inside on the side that doesn't allow smoking and didn't notice any kind of smoke smell. We ordered the chicken strips and burger which was prompt to come out and was of really good quality. The burger was perfectly cooked to medium rare which is always hit or miss at any establishment. We've been to Flips several time, all visits were good. The food has always been great, service a little slow, but likely a staffing issue, which many other restaurants also are currently having. Would love to give them five stars but can't, due to the slowness of service. Their homemade potato chips are excellent! Onion-rings are very good. Fries can be hit or miss... but they seem to have no issue remaking the fries... to eventually get them right! Their burgers are "restaurant priced" but they have a great variety. NOTE: Making your burger a double, is only $2 more, a great value... and makes the cost of a double burger definitely worth the total price! Did I mention, the burgers are great and very filling! My wife had the flat iron steak, and was very pleased with it. It was very tender and came with a large portion of broccoli. It's a large place with both indoor and outdoor dining. Likely more seating than they (currently) have staff to manage. But they really seem to be doing as-good-as can be expected. I'd liken it to a nice sports bar type of atmosphere. All in all, a great place to bring friends and or family! A fun friendly atmosphere, where we had a really good time and will certainly come back to again! read more

I have to be honest here and say that I actually created a Yelp account so that I could publicly express my experience as it relates to this establishment. And this is not the first bad experience that I've had in a restaurant so one might have to surmise that it was so overboard that I was left close to speechless. I visited Flips on Saturday evening with a friend. We sat at the bar and ordered chicken nachos (for me) and a burger / ribeye for my friend. Next to us were two "gentlemen", one of whom seemed very (very) interested in whether me and my friend were dating. (More on this later). The food arrived. Burger was overcooked. My friend decided that based on the vibe from the bartender, chances of getting it redone were nil. So he said nothing. My nachos were okay except they had no chicken on them. We expressed said fact to the bartender who, clearly annoyed (or amused with himself), proceed to use his FINGER to POKE around the nachos, play acting as if he was searching for chicken. Yes. I had secretly hidden it all under the cheese and jalapeños. Anyway, he walks away, no apology that I can recall and leaves us with the nachos. A few minutes later, he arrives with a small bowl of what I assume was microwaved, dried out chicken that resembled the old subway faux-chicken (rubber texture and all). He then DUMPS the bowl on top of my nachos, as if I was his pet pig or dog, with chicken running all over the place. I have never quite seen anything like this in my life. Even with my pets, I use more finesse when serving them. At this stage, the dude to my left has not shut up, continuously sharing his thoughts on why I should be having sex with the friend that I am trying to dine with. My friend is trying not to blow up at this guy, for fear of having a major incident. "Why are you not dating? You should be doing it together? Why don't you guys do it? Why don't you date her?"...and on and on. My friend, in shock, begins to mimic the bartender dumping the food on us. The "gentleman" to my left explains that HE is a regular. THIS silly chain restaurant is apparently for "regulars" only and he proceeds to let us know that if we continue our complaints and/or don't leave a sufficient tip, we should not come here and eat the food again. He inferred that the staff would purposely poison / make us sick. Drinks though, seemed okay to him. Drink but don't eat. So says the REGULAR. And you know what? WE BELIEVED HIM. So we left. I took the time to look up who owns this spot. That man apparently ran his restaurants as (his words) "a hobby". Not shocked to hear it. He's now passed away. Someone named Martin Meier is the current President. Well Martin, you owe me and my friend, whose money you took, a giant apology. We are both livid and disgusted. read more

Nice selection of burgers to choose from. I went with The Texan Burger and it was very good. One minor complaint is that it came out medium-well as indicated on my bill. Would've preferred to be asked how I wanted it cooked. Also the bacon on the burger could have been more crispy and less fatty. A generous helping of hand-cut fries come with every burger, which is nice, but unfortunately they were a bit soggy. Price for a burger (fries included) are very reasonable at $12 to $14. This was a gem, with good food and service. The Pineapple express and Blood and Honey drinks were very good. The fried mushrooms, bacon wrapped jalapenos, pork chops, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans are all very good. Would luv the pork chop to be thicker but still very good. I got the fried pickles, but I found them lil salty and not my fav....but you get a good thinner ranch dressing that offers better coverage when dipping. Place was so friendly and inviting that a vendor for the Blood and Honey beer gave my whole table a free drink to try. We were sat in the main restaurant near the bar and to our surprise it was smoke. People sitting at the bar were smoking. We moved to another table further away but it still smelled so badly. We went ahead and ordered a French dip and onion rings. The onion rings were very cold and the French dip was just okay. We have been another location that was a far superior experience.
