The phone had always been kept in a case and, to her knowledge, had never been dropped or exposed to water. There was no crack on the phone when she brought it in. After picking up the phone, she noticed that the camera was not working properly and that the front camera appeared to have a smudge or obstruction. She returned to the shop the very next morning to report the issue. At that point, she also noticed a sharp crack on the top-right corner of the phone (attached image). This crack was not there when she brought the phone in, and the phone had remained in a hard shell case for the past 4 years. Naturally, she was very concerned about how the damage had appeared. What was especially concerning was that the shop never mentioned any crack or damage when she dropped off OR picked up the phone. When she called the next morning, one of the first questions she was asked was whether she had dropped the phone which was a weird question to ask before she even mentioned any of the issue. When she returned to the shop, they claimed that she had dropped the phone, cracked it, and then somehow exposed it to water, resulting in water damage. She did not drop the phone or expose it to water within such a small time frame. She also asked about documentation of the phone's condition when it was dropped off and was told that the shop does not take before-and-after photos. So there is no documentation from the shop showing that the crack or other damage was present before the repair. She brought the phone in for a battery replacement and immediately afterward had a non-working camera, a smudged front camera, and a new crack that was not there when she dropped the phone off. The fact that the shop did not document the phone's condition and did not disclose the crack when she picked it up is extremely concerning. She is now disputing the charge and possibly filing Consumer Complaint with Virginia AG because she does not believe the damage occurred before she brought the phone in. If you use this shop, I would strongly recommend taking detailed photos and videos of your phone--including all four corners, the screen, cameras, and back--before handing it over for any repair. Or better, just save yourself and your phone from any headache and avoid this place at all cost.

Elman came through for me again, and he went the extra mile to do the work in a way that will…read moreprevent future problems. One of my 20' XLR microphone cables failed while I was doing a remote recording session...scratches and crackling from a short circuit. I brought the cable to Elman for repair. He found the problem and fixed it. The "extra mile" was his applying heat shrink to the soldered leads which has two benefits: - stabilizes the leads against strain, and, should they get pulled again, prevents them from touching and should prevent electrical short circuiting. This attention to detail is all too unusual in today's marketplace. Kudos to Elman.

I was hoping that I found a local competent company with parts for my printer. I found parts but…read morethe competence was lacking. The OEM transfer belt was defective, no fault of theirs I assume, but refusal to admit there is a problem with it after overwhelming evidence to the contrary including trying another part they recommended (which was mislabeled and wrong the first time) and paying $200 for technician plus hours of my own time did not feel like competence on this end. I finally solved the problem by removing the belt from the "new" one they sent and putting it on my transfer unit. Admittedly, a new unit coming with a broken roller retainer is not a standard occurrence, but stuff happens.
