The lodge was one of the first places my husband and I looked at to get married. We loved the…read morerustic look and feel of the wedding and decided to move forward with it. I LOVED the lodge itself for my wedding but dealing with the city of Durham Parks and Recreation rentals was a pretty rough experience. First off, it's a pretty far drive to go one of the two days of the month they are actually open, and a pretty irritating drive back if you were told the wrong day. Then we went back on the next day they were open because we were supposed to get measurements of the tables for our party rental company, and the employee that was scheduled to be onsite wasn't there when we got there. I had to call the facilities manager and ask her why a city owned facility wasn't open on one of the only two days of the month it was supposed to be open to the public. I guess there had been a mix-up with communication after an event had been cancelled that morning and the employee assumed that meant they weren't needed for the day. The afternoon employee was right on time for his shift but we were pretty irritated. Not exactly stress any bride needs the month before her wedding day. Second off, I was guaranteed my security deposit back no later than 7 weeks after our event. It's now a month past that deadline and I have called twice only to discover that the first time I updated my address the check was written and mailed to a house on the same street as my old address.. not even the house I used to live at. So hopefully this will be resolved within the next 48 hours. The third bummer was that there is barely any cell service in the area so don't expect to be able to receive phone calls for lost family members. Print out directs for guests ahead of time. The perks of the facility are endless wooded scenery and backdrops for your small family wedding, a reasonable price (if your security deposit ever makes it back to you), a paved driveway and wheelchair access for our grandparents, a complete surround sound speaker system that you can hook an ipod or cell phone up to (we paid someone $100 to be our DJ and created our playlist on itunes), indoor AC, an ice machine, indoor plumbing (a rarity for wooded weddings), plenty of tables to use, a balcony for family portraits and a more than enough space for 50 people to come inside if the weather is bad. We loved our wedding day in the woods. Spruce Pine Lodge will be a great spot to go hiking on our anniversaries but just be forewarned that you need to give yourself plenty of time to visit and map out your wedding on the few trips you can actually make to visit the lodge.

We were in the area and felt like a visit to an arcade would be fun. This place has that and many…read moreother things under one roof. A movie theater, laser tag, an arcade, billiards, a bar, and even a Chinese restaurant! Hopefully I didn't leave anything out. We tried the billiards first, but all the per game cheap tables were taken. Only the per hour ones were avail and more than we wanted to pay. Plus the mostly male patrons did not make us feel welcome from the looks we got so we moved onto the arcade. You have to buy a card to play the games and the machine was confusing, even with asking a couple people buying one. Of course there wasn't an employee anywhere inside to ask for assistance, but we finally figured it out. Unless you want to play shoot em up games, most of what they have is for kids, incl a very short whack a mole game. We did play a pinball game that frequently shouted, well that's a real cow pie shot, or something to that effect! Long story short, for as much as they have to offer you're either going to find some entertainment value or not.

No, it's a big enclosed and air conditioned fun-house mall for all ages alike! I wandered around but just had some beers and a burger at the "Crazy Dragon Tavern". Unlike some other reviews, I thought the whole place seemed clean and nice. I did not know to expect a mini-disneyland in the middle of nowhere near Roxboro! The pub was good, with kind staff, and a nice fancy burger. I pondered sticking around all night to catch a movie but didn't. But the next time my brother visits I think we might drive on up here for the convenience of it!

I had a great experience with this moving company when I moved from Durham to Illinois. They gave…read moreme the best quote for a long-distance move and they moved my items directly to Illinois without stopping or combining them with someone else's items, which meant none of those annoying stickers! They brought 4 or 5 guys, all very professional, and brought all the necessary materials (blankets, shrink wrap, etc.) to pack my goods on the truck. It only took them about 90 mins to load the truck! (I had a 1 bedroom plus den townhome). As with any moving company, I recommend contacting them a few days prior to your move to make sure you're in their schedule and that there has been no miscommunication. I have been burned in prior moves, but the Taylors did not let me down.

First of all, I don't like leaving negative reviews. But this company ghosted me. I cannot rate…read morethem for service because I never received any - I am glad others have had a good experience based on most of the reviews. In 2018, We were moving from an apartment to a house which was only an 8 mile trip. I called and a representative came to our apartment for an assessment. We were in the middle of packing so items were not quite move ready. The gentleman asked me where I worked which was none of his business mind you, and in red flag territory, but I was focused on getting this move done, so I let that go. He also asked if the woman present ( my wife ) was my mother, yes another red flag that we chose to ignore. He stepped out of the apartment called the office I presume and came back with a quote which was a little high, and then left. But because we were in a serious time crunch, the company had favorable reviews, and I like to support local family owned businesses, I called and left a voicemail accepting the quote. I lost three valuable days waiting for a call back that never came. We called back but never spoke to a human. I don't know why we were ghosted, and it might be possible that the high quote was to scare us off instead being straight with us out of some concern that I could not pay them, or simply of telling us they were fully booked or maybe the the third floor apartment was a concern. But that is only speculation. I do hold out the possibility that perhaps something serous like a family emergency might be a factor, but I still should have received a callback. I eventually called another company (ATHENS which I already left a yelp review for), they moved us without issue and they got my money because I did have a job. They even picked up new appliances we purchased on the way to our new home. I hope my experience with Taylor is the exception and not the norm.
