I visited this store the other day with a friend to shop for a gift. We had been browsing for about…read more30 minutes, and my friend had even used the fitting room, when an employee approached us and informed us that the store has a "no bag policy." This was never mentioned when we entered, and I have honestly never encountered a policy like that before. We were asked to hand over our purses, which were then taken to the front of the store while we continued shopping. When it came time to check out, the cashier asked whether I was paying with credit or debit. After I said credit, I was told I had to show my ID in order to use my credit card. Between having my purse taken and then being asked for identification just to complete my purchase, I felt like I was being treated with suspicion the entire time. It was an incredibly uncomfortable shopping experience. Afterward, I spoke with several people who have shopped at this store multiple times, and they told me they have never been told about or experienced a "no bag policy." If this policy does exist, it should be clearly communicated to every customer upon entering, not enforced after they've already been shopping for half an hour. Unfortunately, this experience left a very negative impression, and I don't plan on returning.

They always have ammo, excellent selection of entry level to higher end fire-arms as well as custom builds for your rifles. The fly Fishing department had evolved into something of beauty, forget Sage! I purchased a $1000 sage rod from mossy's fly shop in anchorage and the first month it exploded, $50 repair and a six month wait. It get better. The rod came back! First cast with a 50 mg dry fly it snapped in half. On my way to mossy's Costco had the same rod for $200!!!! I was retailed 80% !!!! Mike at mossy's wouldn't replace it. So another $50 and another six month wait. It gets so much better. I got it back, 1 month and it exploded again. This time I was black balled from mossy's and I won't go into the slander and character assassination he did but sort story is. Another fly shop did the warranty. Another $50 the rod came back broken after 7 months. I sent it back the rod came back back but they stole my rod sock. Luckily I met up with the Sage rep and he replaced the sock. It's getting epic now. This $200 rod that Mossy's fly shop charged me $1000 for and I haven't used much due to manufacturing lemon law has now costed me over &1800 in total. I finally understood the Flyfishing industry is a business to make their products seem better and more appealing. So you and I get excited and feel all happy because we have a status symbol that makes us look cool. During all of this drama I bought a TFO lefty from sportsman's. It casted better, I caught more fish due to more time on the water. I wasn't over charged and ONE time it broke and it's because I high sticked a salmon. Sportsman's didn't charge me any money. They literally no questions asked gave me a brand new rod. That ladies and gentlemen is hands down the absolute best customer service I've ever had and it made instant value not only to the rod but to the company I now trust. It's insane when a big box goes above and beyond a local business like mossy's that took advantage of a customer. Sportsman's see's 10000's of people. I'm a nobody but was treated like what your heart hopes to be treated like. You do not need the best gear. You need a good outfitter and GOD bless sportsmen's warehouse both Wasilla and Anchorage for their insane customer service!!! Nothing comes close and a huge thank you to the Anchorage manager as well. To the corporate team working with Alaska. These two stores are an asset and we Alaskan's need them. I texted my AK resident friend i was hunting and fishing with to let him know I was shopping for it at Chimos and he said if he had received the text earlier, he would have waved me of. The reason is the new owner, son, (father recently passed) cannot be accurately described on Yelp without violating the language agreements. LOL. If you are experienced with guns and have been to many places over many decades, you have seen him before, the opinionated condescending guy who thinks he knows everything and is factually wrong quite a bit. Not on opinion issues where people love to pontificate, like ".357 vs .45" or "bonded vs hardcast" but things like, "They don't make that any more, it has been discontinued.". and "They don't make it for that model." he simply does not know his products. But I gave Chimos a 3 because the rest of the staff was great! (and they do know their stuff) Prices a tad bit high, but hey, shipping cost and all, I didn't care because they had the gear in stock I came in for. ($70). The thing was, I was looking to drop another $100 discretionary spending and the guy was such jack wagon, I laughed walked out and dropped about $200 at another store in town where the owner would only venture a tactful smile about my Chimos experience, but was able to provide off the shelf what Chimos owner said was not now and never was an item by a particular company. Hilarious. He had done the exact same thing to my AK resident friend on a different product. Now, I don't think he was fibbing to get a sale on a like item because he didn't offer me or my AK friend who had been there months earlier any alternatives. So he is evidently honest. But if you are going to treat customers like idiots, you at least need to be right. LOL! But 3 stars because the rest of the staff was not just good, but great and very helpful. I understand from talking to the locals the mother is a nice lady too. But as soon as the son started talking, the other employees just walked away. That speaks volumes. I didn't go I looking for a debate, I was looking for a specific product I had researched on the Internet and had ordered for my trip on line, but cancelled my order because it would not have arrived before my trip. So i looked for the item at brick and mortar shops once I got there. Then sonny tells me emphatically and condescendingly they don't even make the item and never have made the item.
