Be careful there as we saw some hats, sun glasses etc at the bottom that once fallen there is no way getting them back. But what is even more exciting to us, is being able to cook things that we've found from the earth and puled out with our bare hands. This tour satisfied the earthy Taurus in me and the Wild Outdoorsman in my Sagittarius boyfriend. Last October, my we were in Stratford to see Othello. Now, he's not the biggest Shakespeare fan, So I needed to find something fun for him while we were there (but also something fun for me, too.) Since we are both great lovers of the outdoors and especially foraging, I did some research on the internet and came across Puck's Plenty. For $35 per person, this outing can't be beat. We all met in a designated area and shared rides to the different hiking sites. Peter had been out earlier and picked some wild cress for everyone and packaged it baggies for us to enjoy later. Our specific goal was to find some fall mushrooms. At our first site, Peter showed us some that were good for eating and pointed out a few that were poisonous. Then we visited a second site where we took a walk through the woods for a couple of hours and found Velvet Foot Mushrooms on the sides of trees. Peter explained that they were good not only for eating, but for thickening and adding extra flavour to gravies and stews. We also found wild ginger root that he dig up for us (and I used some later that night in a vinaigrette on the wild cress and it was absolutely delicious). Our third site was on a private farm with an amazing vegetable garden that we were free to pick anything we wanted from if we left a donation at the farmhouse. There were beets, squash, onions, leeks, pumpkins and turnips. This may sound like nothing to anyone who lives in the country, but as a country raised girl who lives in the concrete jungle now, it was like going home! From there, we visited the most magical forest I've ever been in. It must have been an acre of tall thin pines, planted in formation. It was very dark and there were mushrooms as far as the eye could see. We found Lactaruis, Blewitt, and Puffball mushrooms. I think we spent over an hour in this incredible place, constantly finding new mushrooms, examining them and picking the ones that we could identify as ok to eat. When we reached the farmhouse to leave our donation, we found out they had fresh eggs and bought 2 dozen. Everyone on the tour with us was very friendly and helpful and Peter was a knowledgeable and seasoned guide. I would say that this was no only worth the $35 but far more in terms of learning and experience and we went home with more than enough delicious food for the whole week. No matter what your sign is, I'm willing to bet that you'd have a great time out in the woods on a Puck's Plenty foraging day. Thank you, Peter.

The park and trail seem to get a decent amount of visitors despite a mostly empty parking lot. Trail are pretty well maintained and quiet. They are pretty short so it's should good for anyone who doesn't like long hikes. Also, there are picnic benches if you are planning to bring food. I feel like Tew Falls is somewhere you go in the spring or autumn. You would see the leaves being colors and more water flowing over the Falls.

Part of Sixteen Mile Creek runs through the Lions Valley Park which has a lot of hiking trails that…read moreare really popular for the autumn leaves. There is a dedicated parking lot at Skyvalley Crescent but it can get busy as it's one of the only ones. The issue with parking is that the neighboring suburbs do not allow for street parking, so it makes parking a little difficult. There are a lot of well maintained and wide trails that people were using for a stroll, bikes (we did see some aggressive bikers so listen for bells), and jogging. Dogs are allowed here as well, as long as they are leashed. There are "non-official" trails that can take you down to the creek - these ones are narrower and not of the brush has been cleared away. To get really close to the water you kind of have to walk through these. There is a payoff during late September and early October as you can see the salmon run! They are a little hard to spot but just wait by areas where there is some rocky elevation in the creek. Those are the choke points where they're normally charging up to make a leap!

Sixteen Mile Creek is a lot wider and bigger than what I'd normally associate with creeks. Where it…read moreempties into Lake Ontario actually serves as a harbour for several docks. Further up, there's a lot of green space surrounding it - including the famous Glen Abbey golf club. There's also several trails in the area between Upper Middle and Dundas which are a great escape into nature. I'd long ago noticed some beautiful cliffs when passing over it on the Dundas st bridge, and it's really worth seeing in person.

There's two options for this Bruce Trail. The first, take the one along the escarpment which takes…read moreyou into the forest and other side of the 403, this is more challenging and a bit more scenic. The second, is the paved path down the mountain to the stairs. It's easy going down and there's even a water fountain to drink from at the bottom near the stairs. Going up is a little more challenging, it takes about 20 minutes each way. I really like both paths, but if you are worried about getting muddy shoes, then just take the paved path.

I visited the Rockwood Conservation with the Toyota funded GRCA annual pass made available and free…read moreat the library. This conservation is roughly $7 at admission, but free for a vehicle full if you have the annual pass. The hiking trail features trees and trekked paths near the water over the glacial deposits. You can even walk by the water. The access for boat is very easy to get to, there is a parking lot nearby. The boating looks fun as there are mini lagoon like areas and even caves to explore, reminds me of a lagoon theme park. By the way for the non hikers there is a putting green at the entrance, price is for adult and child but there are leaves and debris and it's full sun. Definitely worth checking out. The GRCA charges for admission because it is not funded by tax payers.
