After trying just about every sport offered in my small town, my kids fell hard for all things track-and-field (and don't you dare say "cross country is the same as track" or they'll bite your head off!) when they got into high school. I thought I lucked out because it seemed like a 'cheap sport' (especially after having to buy full lacrosse kits back in the day) - what do you need besides what you already have, right? Wrong. First time at any Fleet Feet, we went to the Ridgewood store. I called and asked some questions, and a person named Sophia was responsive, knowledgeable, and friendly. When my friend and I walked into the store, Sophia was quick to greet us with a smile, did a 3D scan of my feet, and had me walk back and forth several times to examine my gait. Sophia then discussed the analysis of my feet and my gait, and I found out that one foot is wider than the other, plus some other interesting facts. As a new runner, I went into Fleet Feet having no idea what I was looking for or needed-- just went in with aching knees and a fear of shin splits. I visited on a Saturday morning and it was busy enough for there to be no employees available to help me for a few minutes. Love that the shopping experience is personal; one employee to each customer (at least that's what I witnessed when I visited). I was helped by Axel, who was extremely sweet, patient, and knowledgeable. This place is so awesome. I took my husband here to get fitted for the first time in his life for shoes. He had been suffering with feet pain in all sneakers he's had. I was hoping this would be the resort to take for pain-free shoes, and it did! We were helped by Dave, I believe his name was? This visit was couple months ago so I've unfortunately forgotten his name, but he was the elderly male associate who said he's worked there for several years now. He was so dedicated to helping us find the best solution for his feet, and took couple hours without making us feel hurried or pressure in purchasing. He even urged us to walk around the block to get the feel of the shoe! Wow! He wrote down all the shoes that were top on our list during the fitting, and was so patient even though we didn't purchase anything on the spot. I am incredibly grateful to have a sneaker store so nearby to shop that provides expert assistance. I have tried 9 different shoes since my favorite shoe was discontinued and yesterday I found a stellar replacement. I was there for 40 minutes and they scanned my feet to ensure proper sizing. After the scan, I learned several things about my really odd feet, which explained my issue in finding the perfect pair of raining shoes. The person who helped me suggested ASICS, which I haven't tried in five years and they turned out to be what I needed. In addition to the expert fitting, the person who helped me also provided me with a new way to lace my shoes to prevent slipping. My narrow heels are no longer an issue with his tip! Everything you've read about this place is true. I'm a frequent and avid runner. Prior to going here, I thought I was more of a barefoot runner so I had been using minimus style sneakers. Fleet Feet, however, quickly surmised that I was wrong all along. They measured my feet and told me I had been wearing a sneaker that was 1/2 size too small. They then had me walk back and forth a few times to see where my foot landed and quickly concluded that I needed more cushioning for my style of running (short distance/training/competitive). They then brought out 3 different shoe options they had in stock, had me try all 3 pairs on, and even offered to allow me to go running outside in whichever felt the most comfortable. I ended up settling for a pair that ran $115. I assumed this was a high mark up, but because the service was so friendly and helpful, and because I needed a pair of shoes right away, I bought them. Out of curiosity, I later did some research and was surprised to learn that I would have only saved 5 cents had I bought the same pair of shoes on Amazon. So, between the excellent customer service and the reasonable prices, I'll definitely be going back. read more

Apparently I've got some severe foot issues after abusing them at the gym for the past 30 years. Podiatrist suggested a good running sneaker to alleviate the pain. Arrived at the location 10 minutes before it's posted store opening and waited 20 minutes for it to open but it remained closed. Although it was Easter Sunday, there were many other shops in the area that were open and the ones that were closed indicated with signs that they were closed for Easter. Fleet Feet had no signs or warnings that it would be closed today for Easter and not voice message whatsoever to warn shoppers of its closing. I found this place online while looking for a store that sold Brooks Ghost 11 running shoes. Great customer service from this woman who assisted me. She used this machine which does a 3D image scan of your feet and had me walk so that she could recommend the appropriate running shoes for me and to ensure proper sizing. She even let me take the shoes out for a short run. Luckily for me .. Brooks was one of the brands that were compatible for me. Their prices are comparable to what any store will charge for premium running shoes. They specialize in running shoes and accessories so this is the place to shop for the proper running shoe and receive expert advice. I definitely highly recommend this store. Had a recommendation to go to Fleet Feet after Sneakers Unlimited in Wayne closed down. It's a small place with an emphasis on running. Clothing, heart rate monitors, running shoes, etc. Everything running. So you know that the place is all about catering to runners. I was analyzed by Gail and she told me that the shoes I currently have were wrong for me. I told her I had shin splints and she understood. She fitted me with three different shoes, all different brands and i chose from those. The most comfortable were the Nike. I am not a big fan of Nike running shoes but these did feel sweet. I ran in them today and I love htem. No shin splints. Hail to Gail!!!! She knows her stuff. The shoes were reasonably priced and you get service up the wazoo. I also picked up some flyers for some up coming races and I will start to train for those. So, they also give information about running.... Fantastic running store and they care about helping you. I'm a newer runner. When I first visited Fleet Feet Sports, they helped me find my first pair of running shoes when I had no idea how to pick out the right shoe. Each time I need new shoes, I bring back my previous pair and they set me up with something similar that always works out. A couple years back I was overweight and getting into running. Heavier running means I got plantar fasciitis and wasn't able to run far without foot pain. I was ready to give up, and as a last resort I went to FFS ready to hand them $200 for some sort of super sneaker or pricey shoe inserts to try to get myself running again. Read: guaranteed sale for them. I told them my situation, and instead of taking my money they gave me suggestions for working past the plantar fasciitis and told me not to buy anything just yet. Their advice worked. I was able to use running to lose my weight and eventually ran my first half marathon. I live in Parsippany, so FFS in Montclair is a little out of the way for me. I'm not a "runner," I had never owned proper running shoes, and yet I found myself signed up for a 5K and long distance run within a matter of months. In researching training programs to get motivated I came across the "No Boundaries 5K Training Program" offered by Fleet Feet and signed up. The program was significantly beneficial in helping me complete the 5K, running/jogging all the way through - something I had not be able to do in previous 5K experiences. Additionally, I went to Fleet Feet to purchase sneakers at the start of the program and found the staff to be helpful, knowledgeable, and patient with my novice self. Being unsure of how a running sneaker should fit, I was measured, but also given several pairs to try on and test! The staff encouraged me to take them outside for a jog up the block to see how the shoes felt in action, an option I never would've been offered from a shoe store in the mall. I observed the same treatment being given to another customer who seemed like a regular, with lots of running experience, so the service seemed consistent regardless of your running level. Although you will pay more here than you would at a department store, the price differential is worth it. The staff care about putting you in a quality product since they are looking for a repeat customer. They are their to meet your needs and really find the best sneaker that is suited for your running style. I just had an injury and they worked with me to try to have this not happen in the future. They took a video of how I walked and then watched me run several times outside with the shoes that they brought out. It was down to 2 sneakers and they told me to just wear it for a little bit and see if I would like one more. And I'm really glad I did. I was greeted as soon as I entered even though the store was packed. My rep took the time to ask me where I was in my running journey, what I thought I needed and then explained how they assess what your needs are as far as a show. She was really patient, gave me a few tips as far as running. She did her assessment and then brought out a few (cute) pairs of stability sneakers that were available. I told her I wouldn't be buying when we started our dialogue but her service was still attentive and patient. This isn't a discount shoe store- two of the sneaks I was interested in were between 120 and 130 dollars (new balance and Nike respectively). They had some other stuff on sale as well. They also carry other items such as clothing, equipment n snacks. This store is pretty cool as they provide a meeting point and water for the running group and the location on Bloomfield Ave in Montclair is really convenient if you're looking to go to the local juice bar, restaurant or just go shopping. I have been to Fleet Feet many times over the years. Not just this one in Montclair, but there's also a Fleet Feet in West Hartford, CT that I used to run to. Heh. Kidding. I mean, I did actually go there, but I drove. It was far from where I was living at the time! And though Montclair is also not within running distance of where I am now, it is well worth the half hour drive. The salespeople at Fleet Feet are always super helpful. If you have webbed toes or 12 toes or no toes or flat feet or ankle protrusions, the 16 year old kid at Sports Authority is going to laugh at you and walk away. But at Fleet Feet, they will understand your issue and work with you to find you the perfect sneaker. I was at Fleet Feet on Saturday morning talking to a salesperson there. I did not catch his name though I should have asked. We had a long conversation about running and races and training and various pains and solutions. It was comfortable and non-intrusive. Just like the footwear! I went in knowing what I wanted. A new New Balance running sneaker. Two actually. I, like many humans, have the luxury of sporting two separate feet on my person. I've used New Balance for my last 4 or 5 pairs of sneakers and they've never done me wrong. So I'm easy. But my first couple times going to Fleet Feet, I had no idea what to get. The chaps and ladies who work here know their business and treat their customers right. They don't try to up sell you on anything (though I do love the cushy Zulu socks!) unless they think a product will truly enhance your sport experience based on any conversation you've had with them. Fleet Feet also has a great assortment of workout shirts, shorts, socks, water bottles, Cliff Bars, Gu, etc. etc. Gotta love Gu! Can't say enough good things about Fleet Feet.
