I have been to Fleet Feet many times over the years. Not just this one in Montclair, but there's also a Fleet Feet in West Hartford, CT that I used to run to. Heh. Kidding. I mean, I did actually go there, but I drove. It was far from where I was living at the time! And though Montclair is also not within running distance of where I am now, it is well worth the half hour drive. The salespeople at Fleet Feet are always super helpful. If you have webbed toes or 12 toes or no toes or flat feet or ankle protrusions, the 16 year old kid at Sports Authority is going to laugh at you and walk away. But at Fleet Feet, they will understand your issue and work with you to find you the perfect sneaker. I was at Fleet Feet on Saturday morning talking to a salesperson there. I did not catch his name though I should have asked. We had a long conversation about running and races and training and various pains and solutions. It was comfortable and non-intrusive. Just like the footwear! I went in knowing what I wanted. A new New Balance running sneaker. Two actually. I, like many humans, have the luxury of sporting two separate feet on my person. I've used New Balance for my last 4 or 5 pairs of sneakers and they've never done me wrong. So I'm easy. But my first couple times going to Fleet Feet, I had no idea what to get. The chaps and ladies who work here know their business and treat their customers right. They don't try to up sell you on anything (though I do love the cushy Zulu socks!) unless they think a product will truly enhance your sport experience based on any conversation you've had with them. Fleet Feet also has a great assortment of workout shirts, shorts, socks, water bottles, Cliff Bars, Gu, etc. etc. Gotta love Gu! Can't say enough good things about Fleet Feet. This particular establishment in Montclair is just as great as the one in West Hartford, CT. Overall, they are a company that really knows how to treat people well. read more

This place deserves a rating beyond 5+ stars. My experience at Fleet Feet in Montclair was exceptional. Who knew this kind of flawless customer service still exists? I walked into the store and was immediately greeted by the owner. He examined by current shoes and asked me questions on whether I had any foot pain, or if I felt like the shoe suited my needs. I described to him what I was looking for in a shoe and the first one he brought out was the perfect fit. He spent a good 15-20 minutes with me and had me run down the street while wearing the shoes I had chosen. He did this so he could see if there was any kind of imbalance or if there would be a reason why my former shoes had worn out so quickly. The shoe I settled on was" Brooks Glycerin 9." Awesome staff, great customer service and a variety of merchandise. I have participated in several of their training programs and their "fun runs". I was fitted for sneakers and was allowed to take a spin in them before deciding which pair was most comfortable-no one else is going to try that hard for you. Prices are comparable and I would much rather give these folks my business. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my running gear. Their training programs provide info, inspiration and encouragement. I love these guys. I've been here maybe 3 times to get running shoes and every time I needed the shoes for training purposes and they never failed me. Excellent customer service by the staff who actually measure your foot in a variety of ways to ensure you get the proper shoe for your needs rather than handing you the most expensive new popular sneaker. They even gave me free advice on how to get rid of my shin splints and have community runs in Montclair. What can I say, all in all, I find them to be a great establishment! read more

I never take the time to write reviews but felt inclined after my experience at Fleet Feet today! I made an appointment (love that they do appointments given the ongoing pandemic) and was greeted and seen right away. The gentleman that helped me was named John (who I'm not finding out is the owner after visiting their Yelp page) and he could not have been more kind. I'm a bit shy typically and was nervous coming in by myself (especially since I'm not a big athlete) but he was so genuine and had the best demeanor, that I was relaxed right away. He really took the time to observe my feet (which are not pretty btw as I have bunions) and his knowledge on feet and running is obvious. It was so refreshing to be able to connect with a stranger in the old fashioned way. Thank you John and Fleet Feet! My wife and I recently visited Fleet Feet to get fitted for proper running shoes. John the owner took care of us. The whole experience was truly wonderful. Their level of service and knowledge of the products are extremely high. I can't say enough about the overall experience. We were fitted using their 3D machine which took a 3D view of our feet and then he had us walk to see what type of sneakers would be best for each of us. He spent a tremendous amount of time showing us many options from various brands to make sure we got the proper sneakers. We both could not be happier with the overall process and level of service that we received. I don't think it's possible to give them a high enough rating because they deserve more than five stars. The prices we paid were more than fair and we will be going back many many more times. I can't recommend this story enough. read more

I met with Lauren who gave me a free consultation which include a reading of my feet through a new technology that scans your feet three dimensionally. After trying on five pairs of sneakers that she recommended, I left with a new pair of Brooks which i absolutely love. They only stock high quality products that have stood the test of time and picky reviewers, and train their staff incredibly well. When you walk into this store, the first thing that happens is a resounding chorus of "Hellos!" and a subsequent offer of assistance. Unheard of in Northern New Jersey. There will be a posture and running stride test if needed, then a glut of helpful information about different shoe models. I'm a new runner and I was looking for new orthotics for my (cheap) running shoes here. John and Kaley were super friendly and knowledgeable. Kaley was so attentive and patient throughout the whole process and really catered to what I was looking for - maximum comfort and pain relief. I ended up also buying a brand new pair of shoes and supportive socks. Although it's a little out of my budget, I could tell the quality is superior to other athletic shoe stores. What a wonderful experience I had at Fleet Feet! Some dear friends arranged an appointment there to outfit me with the best sneakers possible as a birthday gift for the big 7-0!!! Mary was my guide/sales associate. She was so warm and friendly, and most importantly, so knowledgeable. The 3-D scanner revealed things I didn't even know about my own feet! My arch was actually low, and my foot was wider than I realized. The end result was that Mary brought out specific brands that were best suited for the type of feet I have. I now am walking around in the best and most comfortable sneakers of my life! My generous friends even picked up the tab for the sneakers! What a treat! The whole staff at Fleet Feet was so friendly, so professional and so safe. It's a busy store, but all Covid precautions are implemented, and it was truly a joy to be there. What an awesome place! I'm giving two stars because 2 of the team members did happen to be very kind and helpful to me however, one lady (who I was told is some type of manager) was extremely rude to me saying I couldn't return shoes that I bought literally the day before because they were "worn".. I wore the shoes on a run that didn't even last 10 minutes because my right foot went numb due to the shoe being too small. The guy who sold me the shoes was aware that my right foot was indeeed bigger than my left. Before even going back, I checked the store policy where it said they will do anything to make you happy with your shoes whether that is a refund or exchange. All I wanted was to exchange for a bigger size but the store did not have that and told me that they were unable to order it. So how is that my fault ? I didn't deserve the treatment I received. I have never heard of a running shoe store not allowing you to test out your shoes. Especially when the manufacturer themselves give you 90 days. This particular shoe was made by ASICS. One of the other workers even confirmed that I was more than able to do a return and was also disappointed in this woman's behavior to me so much that she apologized to me. This seemed like a great store but due to this very incident I will take my business to other shoe stores that actually mean what is said in their store policy. read more

Utter waste of time. Staff seems to completely break down if more than two people are in the store. I don't want to talk about running, I want to try on shoes and purchase them. Overpriced, too. Completely ridiculous experience. Shoes are $20-$30 more per pair than at competing retailers, and the customer service was nonexistent. After waiting ten minutes to be waited on, and 15 minutes after than for my shoes to be brought up, I saw a line of people to purchase shoes. Yikes. read more

My husband only buys his sneakers from here. So when l decided I wanted to run my first half marathon, he insisted that we go to Fleet feet to get fitted. The prices for the sneakers seem fair. I know that you can get almost anything cheaper online (and I am the first one to check online prices!) but the customer service here is amazing! They take their time to properly fit your feet and I never felt rushed while trying a pair of sneakers. While I was being fitted, I asked the worker for some training tips and she gladly gave me some tips! If you sign up for their email newsletter, you'll receive promotions and running events. Excellent service. They tolerated my clueless mother and the only slightly less clueless me when buying running shoes. Properly measured her feet and found a pair she found comfortable. They were the SAME price as found online on Zappos, so don't worry, you are not spending more by shopping here. Only con is they don't have all the color options available online of most shoes. Wonderful customer service! I'm a running novice so I found the time spent with the sales person so helpful. She watched my stride and even said I could go out to the pavement if I wanted to see them in action. I signed up for emails and they have been like being welcomed into a running club. My Fleet Feet store in Mahwah closed and so I went to the Montclaire Fleet Feet store. Boy, am I glad I did. The people in the store were extremely nice and friendly and made me feel comfortable right away. I had a great salesperson named Cory who was friendly and very knowledgeable. Today however when buying an orthotic sole insert for my son, when my son said it felt tight, an employee the began to Rip the Sole out of his air Jordan sneakers!He did not obtain our consent until he was half way through and when he asked my son said No. I complianed and they said they would repair it. The return policy as printed on the receipt clearly states: "Fleet Feet Sports is committed to FIT. If you are not satisfied with an item you purchased from us, you may return or exchange it any time. We won't rest until we find the right solution for your needs." This cannot be farther from the truth. In reality they apparently have a 30 day return policy which is not posted anywhere in the store, let alone on their receipt.
