Beware of The Nashville Handyman - Unlicensed and Costly Mistakes…read moreI hired The Nashville Handyman, owned by Chad Weideman, expecting professional service, but instead, I ended up with severe property damage and thousands of dollars in unexpected repairs. His crew used a mechanical trenching machine that broke my sewer line, and rather than informing me, they covered it up with bricks, gravel, and dirt, leading to major plumbing failures over time. Upon further investigation, I discovered that The Nashville Handyman is not licensed to perform this type of work, which is illegal in Tennessee under T.C.A. § 62-6-503. The law states that unlicensed contractors may be held liable for treble damages--triple the actual repair costs. Even after being presented with undeniable evidence, they refused to fully take responsibility for the damages they caused. If you care about your home and finances, avoid this company. Always hire a licensed and reputable contractor instead.

On one hand, there's Luke the handyman - Extremely…read moreinefficient, took over six hours over 2 days for a handful of minor tasks, of which he only completed 1 successfully - Did not perform several of the tasks I requested up front, didnt bother to schedule any sort of followup to finish the work despite me asking multiple times - Asked me for help lifting a heavy object in the middle of the work day - Didnt finish painting for some reason (see picture) - Replaced smoke detector batteries, except for the one in the garage. When the battery he forgot to replace did run out of juice a week later, another company discovered the wired smoke detectors werent connected, so they all had to be replaced. Whether this was incompetence or negligence on Luke's part, I cant say, but I would not trust him to keep your home safe On the other hand, there's Wayne the boss - a loose cannon, to put it mildly. His main role seems to be some sort of enforcer, as he lacks the technical skills to schedule appointments or provide payment receipts - Failed to schedule appointment, I had to text him to ask when they were coming (got a 1-word response) - Doesnt know how to use email, I had to repeatedly text him my own email, but he never figured it out so eventually I had to ask for HIS email in order for him to try to send me a receipt - Instead of emailing a receipt/bill like a normal business, he showed up at my door to demand payment, threatening to physically assault me. This was after I already offered to pay Luke when he left days prior and gave him a generous tip Again, the work that was done wasnt done properly, and I had to pay someone else to fix it. You know the saying, "it is hard to find good help". Well, guess I lucked out when I found, Ken…read more I had just picked up a rescue dog and wanted the luxury of having a doggie door. My one obstacle was that I had an indoor cat. I needed to find a person who would not only install the doggie door (not a very hard task), but also build an enclosure of sorts to contain the cat! Ken was the "go to person". He was able to help assess the situation, price out the materials, and give me a very reasonable quote. He performed the task and the result is a very professional enclosure completely made out of wood with a beautiful gate, all hand-painted. The end product is far better than I had imagined! In contrast, I had called a number of other "handymen", fencing companies, and specialized gate businesses. One of the better known "handymen" went so far to ask me if I loved my pets. If I did love them then I'd better be willing to open up my pocketbook. The classic answer these other businesses gave to solve the problem was to slap together a classic metal gate with a post on one end with the other attached to the wall (Ken actually built a door-frame out of wooden posts with both cemented into the ground prior attaching the gate). Then to keep the cat inside they would have stretched chain-link across the top. Of course this all was going to not only be makeshift, but expensive. Ken was personable, knowledgeable, and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend him for ANY task whether it was to build or repair. Ken doesn't seem to care if it is a large job or a very small job. As a new homeowner, it is good to finally find a person that I can trust.
