I had an adult issue and I needed to solve in like an adult. By having someone else fix it. I know my strengths. I'm not very handy and I don't have the wherewithal to sit, watch, digest, and replicate YouTube videos. So, without much else to go on than knowing my need, I went on to the Jelps to look for a plumber. I found Tommy. I sent him an email and detailed my issue. He got back to me promptly, identified the issue, sent me an estimate, and a time he could show up to fix the problem. Easy. He showed up at exactly the time he said he would, introduced himself, went through the general niceties, and got to work in the kitchen. The problem was what he thought it was and he had the tools and replacement parts at the ready. It made it easy that parts, labor, time, etc. were all inclusive in the estimate. There were no surprise costs even when/if the problem could take a bit longer to fix than necessary. Tommy got me back to where I needed to be with a new part, reminder to send in the warranty, and a sink that was fully functional. He cleaned up all his mess and took it with him (rather than have me deal with the detritus. Years later, his card is still on top of my desk. I don't want to ever lose his contact.

I was desperately looking for a good handyman in Nashville. As you can imagine, finding someone…read moregood in an unfamiliar town is quite daunting and iffy. I spoke to a few, but I settled on Wayne from A Plus. I made the appointment one week in advance of my trip to Nashville, and called him several times with questions and reassurances. He was very patient and understanding. Well, I hit the jackpot with Wayne! He not only arrived on time and did everything that needed to be done, but was such a pleasure to work with. Now my son has someone to call in Nashville! I highly, highly recommend Wayne! Thank you Wayne, from Florida.

On one hand, there's Luke the handyman - Extremely…read moreinefficient, took over six hours over 2 days for a handful of minor tasks, of which he only completed 1 successfully - Did not perform several of the tasks I requested up front, didnt bother to schedule any sort of followup to finish the work despite me asking multiple times - Asked me for help lifting a heavy object in the middle of the work day - Didnt finish painting for some reason (see picture) - Replaced smoke detector batteries, except for the one in the garage. When the battery he forgot to replace did run out of juice a week later, another company discovered the wired smoke detectors werent connected, so they all had to be replaced. Whether this was incompetence or negligence on Luke's part, I cant say, but I would not trust him to keep your home safe On the other hand, there's Wayne the boss - a loose cannon, to put it mildly. His main role seems to be some sort of enforcer, as he lacks the technical skills to schedule appointments or provide payment receipts - Failed to schedule appointment, I had to text him to ask when they were coming (got a 1-word response) - Doesnt know how to use email, I had to repeatedly text him my own email, but he never figured it out so eventually I had to ask for HIS email in order for him to try to send me a receipt - Instead of emailing a receipt/bill like a normal business, he showed up at my door to demand payment, threatening to physically assault me. This was after I already offered to pay Luke when he left days prior and gave him a generous tip Again, the work that was done wasnt done properly, and I had to pay someone else to fix it. Unbelievable!

When I bought our home in 2004, it had a fine, wooden deck attached. Lately my wife noticed that…read morethe deck was a bit decrepit and so contacted the Dan Company to build a sturdy replacement. I wish I didn't have to write this review: we had a great experience with the company a couple…read moreyears ago (so great that I served as a reference for them!), so when we needed help with a substantial primary bathroom renovation, they were our first call. Unfortunately, our experience this time around was terrible -- I cannot in good faith recommend them anymore. Giving two stars (rather than one) because the work quality was very good. Subs did a great job, were friendly and cleaned up after themselves. In the end, we didn't go over budget. But we paid a lot of money and experienced a lot of unnecessary delay and drama. In short, our project was a victim of poor communication and lack of ownership taking responsibility. We went through four project managers: the first went MIA on us, delaying the demo start by 6 weeks; the second hadn't read any of the project briefing and let us to believe none of our materials had been ordered; the third was too busy with other projects to make ours a priority; and the fourth was brand new, didn't really know what he was doing, and wasn't getting the oversight he needed from leadership. To the company's credit, they didn't end up charging us for project management--as we'd been doing a big portion of it ourselves. Ultimately, a project that should've taken 8-10 weeks took 16 weeks (and that's after the 6-week-delayed start). The thing that was most frustrating was that while Dan was fairly responsive to our outreach when things were regularly going wrong, he was also regularly pretty dismissive of our concerns and didn't take responsibility for all of the mistakes and screw-ups that were the result of his team's failings--failing to read the brief; failing to install underfloor heating and electrical that was in the brief, resulting in ripping up tile that had just been laid; failing to inspect goods on arrival so that they could be replaced when broken without delaying the project; failing to tell us about budget implications of design choices, etc. Dan will say I was mad when things went wrong, and that some of those things were out of their control. Yes, I was mad. But mostly I was disappointed that I trusted this company, and they took advantage of that trust.
