I Love Flatiron. It's a great place to come and eat some good food, drink some good drinks, hang out and have a good time. Every time I come here the place is filled with people, and full of energy. It's no wonder because the drink selection is huge, the food is delicious, and the waiters and waitresses are very friendly and very attentive for it being more of a large bar and less of a restaurant. Because this place is more of a bar with a lot of seating, it is usually pretty loud inside but if you want a more quiet atmosphere, you can always eat in the back room. Friends and I headed over to Flatiron for Happy Hour and had a great time! We arrived around 4pm and our party was easily able to grab a table. We all started off with drinks. I ordered the Golden State Hard Cider. We then shared a few appetizers like the Spicy Waffle Fries, Mini Cha Su Bao Pork Buns, and 2 Live Guac. My personal favorite were the waffle fries! It was so good and I loved the kick it had to it. The bar itself is laid back, yet lively as it is a sports bar. They have a good HH menu. Food and drinks were great, and staff was pleasant. I know this looks like a hot mess, but it was DELICIOUS!! The bun was just too big, so I had to take the top off and fork it. The build your own burger is delicious with great options for toppings. Be careful about the up charges. Two of us ate here. Dinner and drinks. Ordered a cheeseburger to go for my teenage son at home. Not only was a burger and fries $25, they added a delivery charge of $1 and then added another $5 unauthorized to my credit card. Total was $33 for a burger and fries. Outrageous!!! Called the establishment after charges went through on my credit card. They told me they would credit back the $5 and I was out of luck on the $1delivery charge (it was for the to-go box) STILL, no credit back for the unauthorized charges. What a rip!! read more

This is a bar. So it's bar food with a twist. Service was good but WAY overpriced and food meh at best. I got the bacon hotdogs- description said 3 bacon wrapped hotdogs $13. They are literally the size of Wetzel's pretzels hotdog bites (I know because afterwards I was still hungry and got some pretzel bites - better tasting, fraction of cost, and 3x the amount of food). Not certain if it's the hotdog or bacon or the loaded red ketchup but the hotdogs had a little kick. I WOULD NOT have ordered spicy hotdogs. Plus they sprinkled green onions on top - had green onions been on description I would have asked no onions. Not to my liking at all. My son ordered Cheesesteak sandwich with sweet potato fries $18! Way too greasy and no where worth $18, maybe $10. My husband got BLT with onion rings $17 - he was real hungry but didn't finish sandwich. My daughter had pull pork sliders - 3 for $16 - it was slathered in sauce. We asked for slaw on the side in the description but they must not have gotten the note because it was soaked in cole slaw which made Hawaiian bread soggy. In all of my years of living in Marin, I had never been to The Flatiron. Practically a San Rafael monument, this bar is super popular with the locals and hosts some great game viewing parties. I was meeting up with some folks in the Marin tech community and was excited to see what everybody was working on. I needed a beer to get started and opted for the Prohibition pale ale. It was pretty hoppy and had a nice kick to it. To soak up the alcohol, I ordered a mushroom and Swiss burger with fries. The burger was pretty tasty but the ciabatta bread was a little too thick for me. Because we reached our $100 special spending threshold, we got 2 free pitchers of PBR, which of course tasted like ass, but it was free! Can't beat that no matter how you slice it. I had a lot of fun meeting with this group of Marin entrepreneurs and Flatiron was a gracious host. The vibe is totally divey but feels like home. It's a great place to watch a game too! My niece an I were in San Rafael recently and we stopped by Flatiron for lunch. Boy are we glad we did! Nice sports bar in down town. Great atmosphere and great bar food. I will always hold a soft spot in my heart for this San Rafael classic. Full disclosure: I once worked there as a bartender and it was so fun. Stopped in there recently after drinks at California Gold and had the best nachos ever. I have tried many a bar nacho and theirs is special. They use heavy duty chips so they don't get soggy so fast. I've been to Flatiron a bunch for post work happy hours. They've got a full bar, and really good snacks/food. I'll drop by for lunch every few weeks, and usually grab their daily burger special (always good) or a black and blue chicken (blackened chicken, blue cheese dressing). When there is a game going on, Flatiron can get really noisy. So be wary if you're actually trying to have a conversation. I've been told by a little bird that Flatiron has a fried ravioli during happy hour. I might need to stop by again for that. read more

We ask her about her beers and she seems to not have clue about what she's selling, not just that but when I ask for a recommendation she reply to me with an bad attitude!. I've been going to Flatiron on and off for years. I don't live in Marin County anymore but will still go there on occasion. The servers and staff have always been great. I last went this past Sunday and I was disappointed they stopped making the spicy siracha fries but thought I could still get something else. I ordered the chicken strips with fries and noticed that the portions were noticeably smaller. I got three or four chicken strips with only a small portion of fries. In the past the fries would be overflowing. After eating, I was still hungry so I ordered another side of garlic fries. I'm hoping this was an aberration and not the new normal. I've been coming here for year and as I seat here waiting for my waitress, yet again, I feel like it finally time to write a review. Us Marinites have had very few places to go and hang out with a good beer over the years so we come here by default. The vibe is good but the price of food is getting out of control. The naked wings are disappointing because they are always dry and over cooked. For $11 for 6 wings you would think you would know how to cook them. I like the bacon wrapped street dog with garlic fries. That's usually my go to. I had a bomb patty melt on rye with grilled unions and 1000 island dressing. Like right when you walk in the back ORDERED: - beers, other drink. Hard to order more when server barely came around - coconut shrimp - buffalo chicken wrap w/ waffle fries - extra ranch instead of Blue cheese When the waitress was taking our order we just wanted to share food since we weren't starving. I asked if the side of fries with the wrap is small or big enough for two. The waitress snapped with an attitude "it's a side of fries." Super annoyed, it wasn't even busy. We ordered, ate, got the hell out, didn't tip her well for her continued rudeness and lack of ever coming to the table. We had to keep flagging other people down. Food was decent greasy bar type food. This restaurant is superb. I've come back since my first visit and the food is great every time! I feel like the fare is close to comfort food in some instances - tater tots, grilled cheese sandwiches, wings - and it's all incredibly well made and so tasty! As a bar I'd give this 5 stars, as a restaurant 3 stars. I love the location and atmosphere for a bar, and the triangle shape of the building is very unique. Huge beer selection, dark wood walls, the floor is actually made from the floor of a HS gym, and there's a scoreboard behind the bar. I probably didn't make great food selections, as it turned out almost everything was fried - and it was overdone and dry. Big TV's, clean bar, super nice staff, window seating, chrome glass and piney wood; Flatiron sure had a face-lift. I was slightly shocked but very impressed with all the changes. The menu has an excellent selection of starters, sandwiches, salads to meet any type of eaters desires. The drinks a mixed expertly. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The plates look amazing and taste like a labor of love. I had the flatiron burger $11 - 1/2lb burger with grilled onions, tomato, lettuce, special sauce and served with a salad. Delicious! Pass through after my son's basketball tournament. We had the lemon pepper wings. I had moms tacos.... They were ok, not over the top delicious, but straight enough for a lil bite to eat. As we were enjoying our nachos, a huge cockroach crawled from under our plate. We let the bartender know and her response was: oh they usually come out in the spring. She didn't seem bother at all. So I used to be kinda regular around here before the pandemic and it used to have amazing drinks and a friendly staff. Last night my boyfriend and I went to have a drink after dinner. The door guy was nice, but the bartender was exceedingly abrupt, borderline rude with us. She proceeded to make us two of the worst cocktails I've ever tasted, a whiskey sour with only about 1/4 oz of whiskey in it, and triple sec added, and a margarita so salty i thought I was a cow in a pasture with a vaguely lime flavored salt lick. When I tried to get her attention she ignored us entirely, and when I asked her to remake our drinks she vagiely waved towards the door. The menu is a really great mix of American, mexican and other randoms. We ordered from the happy hour menu and had pork quesadillas and the lil chili cheese fries. They were both very tasty but the quesadillas were our favorite. They had a unique/unexpected taste. Our beers were great and I'd highly recommend sticking to the draught list. This isn't a place to order a lemon drop but I'm sure the whiskey cocktails would be tasty.
