I've not seen it open early in the day (to be fair, the thought of getting a kebab before midday is revolting), but illuminated by its strip lighting it looks a bit seedy at night. Before you get in the door, you are greeted with massive laminated pictures of all the meal deals they do. They don't really try to tart up the appetisers by giving them names, they refer to them in numbers. Not exactly tempting when it's seemingly served up like prison food. I'm being a bit harsh - the content wasn't actually that bad. Morbid curiosity led me to eat in here and I wasn't actually disappointed. Portions are very generous and the staff are friendly enough. Don't get me wrong - I've had worse kebabs. But even though I'm basing this critique on the appearance of Dersim Kebab House, it's just as important as what's inside. With the shabby frontage and less than appealing signs in the window, they sell themselves short. The food is decent enough and if it's two in the morning, you could do worse than to hook yourself up with a kebab in here.

A friend of mine tried a spicy lamb dish and he loved it (he's a curry expert with his friends trying different restaurant almost per month for years in Edinburgh). Their paratha bread is also great - lighter in the stomach compared to the naan bread! It's easy to give them a call and order the food. What I found unexpected is that you will get text promotions on your mobile phone every two months or so and there's no obvious option to unsubscribe. I never opted in, so they seem to take it for granted when you make a phone order, I do believe though if you give them a call they should be able to remove you from the list. Their punctuality is not the best when ordering take away: they don't check always how busy is the kitchen, and they mention fixed time 20 mins or so, but if you show up earlier, your order might be ready. In Australia, what I call a kebab is called schwarma here. That's really more what I was looking for, but at midnight on a Friday I ended up here. Not impressed. It was quite busy and I found the staff to be very rude. They took my partners order then went away before coming back to take my order after I stared them down and stated this was the same order- why wasn't I being served? I'm also pretty sure the meat was served in a tortilla- never in my life have I had a kebab wrapped in a tortilla or wrap bread, its usually wrapped in Turkish bread. The chips were also taken out of the cooked tray, re- cooked and served to me. I'm I'm paying money I would at least expect not getting recycled food. Overall unimpressed. However, the food is surprisingly tasty and their chips in particular outstrip a lot of other places in Edinburgh. The guy who owns it is friendly, chatty and knows about everything which he offers on the menu. I went for their special doner with chips which cost only £3. The doner meat was certainly better than average as it was succulent and tender without the usual grease which we all associate with these places. It was good meal for what it was and I would definitely come back.
