Just like a few of the reviewers with femme-sounding names and profile pictures, I've had…read moreconsistently unpleasant, downright haughty and passive aggressive "customer service" experiences here by a white male employee named Max, who I'm guessing is a lead and the same man as a few others reviewed. Max has also mansplained and acted condescending to me, actually attempting to correct me when I was more knowledgeable about one pair of sneakers there than he was that I had just read a lot of information about. Max repeatedly denied the information in an arrogant way, and when I tried to politely mention it was factual, he did not like that at all. Max will likely complain about any customer that he thinks is "high maintenance" or has special needs, just as he did with me, which I can only interpret as him being ableist. The one time I suffered through a return with him eligible under the company's policy, he acted like he was inconvenienced by doing so the entire time, and he told me in a very judgmental, passive aggressive way, quote, "If you keep them for a while, we assume you like them." He then acted surly and complained while he was doing the return, exaggerating what he saw on the screen (quote, "it's hard to even see what to do with all of these returns," when I had a grand total of one exchange and one refund posted on my account over the year and a half.) One of the actual managers of Footwise, when I shared this feedback with them, said that Max needed to be re-trained. I guess either that didn't work out for him or he avoids doing them now at all costs, because when I came in to do a different exchange, he handed me off to another employee there without explanation. He even had the audacity to say, when I told the other employee the first shoes I tried on were too narrow, "They say they're too narrow... I guess," as if he was questioning or judging the customer's own ability to know how their feet feel in a shoe. He had such an attitude saying that to me, and then he avoided me around the store and made me feel very uncomfortable and annoyed while he made sure to smooth talk two other older clients trying on shoes. Max was very personable and chipper to them just as he treated me the very first time I was in there, laughing and affectionately speaking with them, but he entirely avoided eye contact with me. Max didn't even bother to ask if I needed anything or how I was doing when he was just standing around or when he was not with other customers when the other employee disappeared into the back (who I overheard telling Max they wanted to take their lunch break soon). After waiting several minutes while Max was standing around literally doing nothing and avoiding me, I got my things and waited at the register. Instead of helping me check out, he went and got the other employee in the back to come out, who was quite sweet and kind during the exchange and checkout process. I could feel Max's gaze on me as I wished the other employee goodbye and left. Do yourself a favor, femmes, women, and disabled folk and avoid this store, because unless one of the managers gives this man a serious reality and ego check, I doubt his arrogant and passive aggressive behavior will ever change. I'd recommend going to literally any other store to avoid him. It's a shame, though, as the other employees at this location are actually quite nice.

Walked into this store the same time as a lady did with her big purse. The lady clerk at the store…read moresaid hi to the lady customer but came right up to me didn't say hi and flatly told me I had to give her my jack spade messenger bag. I refused because my iPad, wallet, iPhone, my Burberry leather iPad case and Louis Vuitton sunglasses were in it. She continued to fight with me on it and I asked why she didn't ask the lady to put her large coach purse behind counter. She said "I have a bag". Mind you I couldn't even fit one shoe in my bag if I were to steal, which I would not anyway. She said "fine but I am going to watch you". And she just stood there with her hands on her hips staring at me with a glare as I tried the shoes. So when I tried on some vans that I really liked ...was so put off by the sales clerk that I put them back. Then went up to counter and proceeded to tell her how uncomfortable she made me and how I was pointed at racially because I am a gay man (spoke very nicely) I might add. Asked her for her first name as she conveniently flipped her badge as I walked up to her....she retorted by saying "leave now". I did. Called headquarters made a big complaint to the division manager. They lost a $60 sale and I went to Vans where they treat me with respect and didn't question my bag and bought them there. In this day where guys have purses/bags too... to hold all there tech stuff...( this ...shouldn't be a question). Never will I buy shoes from Famous Footwear again. My last purchase there was $150 Nike running shoes.... you lost a customer and I hope they fire this lady who was very rude and prejudice. I also wrote a bad review on Google, site jabber and reported them to consumer affairs and the BBB. Update: Division manager called me, apologized profusely sent me a $50 gift card for my trouble. Went back to store spoke to manager - Anna, very nice lady, she saw my messenger bag she even said I couldn't fit one shoe in it,...anyway their policy is not to ask for people's bags. When she looked at it she even agreed it's the size of a small purse. She was very apologetic too. They are taking action with employee, they could not tell me how, but I am glad it was resolved.

When the Shoe Fits - A customer came into the store after I did. She parked across the back of my car, blocking me in.

I got…read moremy foot adjusted and he said for me to consider getting fitted and looking at more supportive shoes. I work from home the majority of the time but when I am traveling for work in standing on my feet so I'm perpetually looking for the most comfortable sneakers while I'm in the hospital/clinic, etc. I shared that with the sales lady during my visit and she made an excellent point. "Comfortable shoes aren't supportive shoes. And that's why you're here. You need supportive shoes." To which I was like ok but why must it be one or the other??? lol Bottom line- she fitted me in a shoe size I would NOT have picked for myself. It wasn't the most comfortable shoe. But I tried to just trust the process because I was in pain. So it was hard to be unbiased. What swayed me was it can't hurt to give it a try, the shoe I was leaning towards was cheaper than what was online, and they have a 90 day return policy. I have pretty much only worn these shoes in the last ~4 months. Heel pain is way less painful and the times that I have worn slip ons or some other crap shoe, that pain comes back. So I'm ready to get rid of all my shoes and only trust this woman. lol I highly recommend. And don't be put off like I was. I hate to admit it but at first appearance I thought it was just an "old lady shoe store." They don't have unlimited trendy options. But I'm there for support, not for cute or comfort. lol it is what it is. Accepting the aging process. Ps my shoe makes my foot look smaller. So that is a plus.
