Knocked off one star for a hidden fee when we got there. We paid $25 for 90 minutes, but when we got to their front desk, the receptionist said it's another $35 to have the appointment. I had a truly devastating experience at Flare's in Walnut Creek. I'm a 2026 bride and already went to David's Bridal, but I wanted to explore other options. Flare's had been recommended as "plus size friendly" with extensive plus size options, so my maid of honor set up an appointment, emailed them my size, and sent images of the styles I liked--simple, elegant dresses, not lace or jewels. When I arrived, it was clear that none of this information had been communicated. The owner told me they did not carry my size but that I could "hold dresses up to get an idea." I was humiliated watching other brides get to try on dresses while I was basically told they could not help me. The one dress that fit me was completely opposite of the style I wanted. The owner, Lisa, did give me the number of another shop, and she eventually waived the fitting fee--but this could have been handled over the phone, and the entire experience felt humiliating and avoidable. The staff seemed inexperienced or uncommunicative, and the store's advertised size inclusivity is misleading. I left in tears and felt devastated. If you are plus size, I cannot recommend this store. Brides deserve to feel excited and supported on what should be one of the happiest days of their life--Flare's fell far short of that. read more

I am having such a great experience with Flares bridal. I was a little nervous about finding the right dress since I was looking for a plus size dress. They have a great dress selection, there was no problem finding plenty to try on. This was the third shop I had been to so I explained to Lissa what I had liked and not liked about other dresses. She picked out some great dresses. The very first one ended up taking everything I liked about previous dresses and rolled it all up in one dress. She also made some suggestions on how I could do some alterations to make it exactly what I wanted. I never felt rushed about trying on the dresses and no pressure to buy that day. I was able to go back at a later day to try the first dress once again and that's when I decided that it was the one. I just had my first dress fitting for alterations there as well. I had a wonderful experience finding my wedding dress at Flares. The boutique itself is clean, bright, and filled with natural light, which makes the whole experience feel calm and special. They have a beautiful and thoughtfully curated selection, including several European designers, and you can really tell there's a strong appreciation for both design and quality. That mattered a lot to me given the price point, and I felt the pricing was reasonable compared to overall bridal dress budgets and the craftsmanship offered. The boutique is owned by two kind sisters who were warm and welcoming throughout the process. Since choosing my dress, I've been back to try on veils and for my first fitting, and everything so far has been smooth and positive. One small heads-up for future brides: make sure your try-on appointment is fully confirmed with a confirmation email. Their booking system isn't the most seamless--I experienced a test payment without the appointment actually being booked and only learned this upon arriving, which meant rebooking. Thankfully, things have gone well since then. Overall, a great experience with lovely people, beautiful gowns, and high-quality pieces. During my appointment, Lessa was the only one working. From the start, everything was cold from her welcome, to her hands and my overall experience wedding dress shopping here. Lessa stated multiple times that I had a 45 min appointment and I could try on 4 dresses, which she would choose herself. The phone kept ringing and she was distracted with answering the phone while trying to "help" me. She also told me I couldn't choose any dresses and I couldn't touch the dresses on the rack. She was aggressive about my budget which I didn't feel comfortable or confident sharing with her. I honestly think she needs more training to change her customer service approach and attitude. I felt disconnected from the start and rushed the whole time I was there. I did like one dress and honestly, if her attitude wasn't so dismissive, I would have bought the dress. I just had a negative experience from the start and I wouldn't recommend going here. read more

I purchased 2 dresses from Flares almost a year ago in October 2024. I have my 5th alteration appointment today and my wedding is next week. At this point, I find it unacceptable that neither dress is complete with my wedding only 9 days away. For the amount of money I've paid for alterations, I expected both dresses to be finished well before now, instead of requiring five appointments and still not being ready. This has caused unnecessary stress at a time when everything should be finalized. Additionally, during one of my fittings, the seamstress placed open pins directly into the dress while I was wearing it. When I removed the dress, the pins scratched me. I'm very concerned about why proper safety pins were not used for fittings to prevent this from happening. I originally left a great review, but based on my recent experience, I feel I have no choice but to update my review to reflect my true experience. I sincerely hope no future bride has to go through this, as I expected a much higher standard of service from Flares. I would not recommend getting your alterations done at this location. My first visits to Flares Bridal was summer/fall of 2025 when I started my dress search. Easy to get to and easy parking. Out of all of the places I've been to in the Bay Area this one of my favorite stores (I have two - this one and another in sf) for selection and my price range! Going in I had an idea of what I wanted and the ladies there showed me anything and everything that was available in similar styles and fashion.. it was SO hard to choose between the dresses. I eventually chose one Alena leena gown from Flares :) The ladies were sweet, funny, and patient with me and I'm super grateful for the experience. When I would try on dresses they pinned those dresses on me so well, I was SNATCHED. I appreciated this because some other places felt like they didn't really try getting the dresses on me or didn't pay attention to my proportions (I'm petite) so the way the flares ladies did it was chef's kiss lol they also reminded me of all the different alterations that could be done to make it more me. I went here a couple of months ago. And all I can say is make sure you have a big budget if you go here. When I told them my budget, which I thought was significant, the lady I was assigned to for my appointment said it wouldn't be enough, and even though I indicated I was willing to go higher, she treated me with disdain for the rest of the appointment. She said they no samples or sales or discount dresses. She showed me only cheap polyester dresses that looked awful and really pressured me to buy them, even after I indicated I did not like the dress. It was a terrible and shaming experience. read more

Married now! Wanted to go back and update this review with my experience. For the alterations, I went there for a total of 5 visits, from the first fitting until the pick up. My gown had to be adjusted couple times for the fit - it was too tight (my weight and measurements didn't change) and the length - it was too long (even though I was fitted on the same shoes and obviously didn't get taller). I do think the seamstress is very experienced and honest. When I asked how much for detachable sleeves, I was quoted around 350 which was ridiculous. She told me I can get a cheaper one in Etsy and she can see how we can work with it from there. I ended up getting one in Etsy for 40 dollars and it looked awesome! If there's one thing I regret, it's that I didn't stick with my gut when they said I should get my size when the gown was ordered even though I know I plan to lose weight. I told them that and they said that they don't advise to order a smaller size since it usually does not work out and it will be harder to adjust a gown to size up than size down (which is true), but I ended up losing a lot of weight and in turn, I lost a bit of the depth and design my gown had when it was adjusted to my size. Even the seamstress noted my gown was so loose on my first fitting. Overall, it was a good experience and my gown fitted really well on my wedding! read more

I originally gave this bridal shop a 5-star review because my experience selecting and purchasing my wedding dress was wonderful. Unfortunately, what happened after my wedding completely changed my perspective, and I feel it's important to update my review to reflect that for future brides. Something worth noting - the shop asks every bride to leave a review at the time of purchasing their dress in exchange for a $50 discount (they do the same when you bring your dress in for preservation). Knowing this now makes me question how accurate many of the glowing 5-star reviews actually are. In my opinion, they are buying these positive reviews. On the day of my wedding, the left strap on my dress broke as soon as I put it on - not later while dancing (I'm not even much of a dancer). It broke immediately. We had just finished my makeup so I knew I couldn't cry, but thankfully, I was able to temporarily fix it for the ceremony with a safety pin and a sticky substance a friend had. The dress was fine the rest of the wedding. After the wedding, I called the shop and explained what happened. I was told it would be no problem to bring the dress in, have the strap fixed, and then sent for preservation. When I dropped it off, I specifically showed the broken strap to one of the girls (sister of the owner/manager I think) and was told it would be fixed before being preserved. A few weeks later, my preserved dress arrived in the mail. I had a feeling I should check it - putting on the preservation gloves that came in the box, I saw that sure enough - the strap was still broken. It had never been fixed. I called and spoke with the owner (I believe her name is Lisa based on other reviews). When I explained that the shop had said they would fix it before preservation, she asked if I was planning on wearing the dress anytime soon - which felt irrelevant. The issue wasn't when I'd wear it, but that they said they would fix it and didn't. She also said it wasn't their responsibility since the dress had already been pressed, again ignoring the fact that they had promised to fix it beforehand. She even suggested I could bring it back in 10 years for a vow renewal or 20-30 years from now if I had a daughter who wanted to wear it - which is unrealistic, as there's no guarantee the business will even exist then. After I explained how frustrated I was - especially after spending over $4,000 on the dress and $400 on preservation - she finally said to bring it in and that she would call the preservation company to see if anything could be done. I then drove over an hour back to the shop. She took the dress in the back for about five minutes, put two quick stitches in the strap, and handed it back to me in the pressed box. While the strap was technically fixed (with two thin stitches - now questioning the sturdiness of the stitching), the dress was no longer properly preserved - meaning the $400 preservation was essentially wasted. When I asked if she had called the preservation company like she said she would, she responded, "For what? They aren't going to fix it for free. The strap is fixed - problem solved." At that point, I just took my dress and left. What was most disappointing is how quickly the care and customer service disappeared once the money had been paid. If they were willing to fix the strap in five minutes, there was no reason it couldn't have been fixed when I first brought it in for preservation (like they said they would) - which would have prevented this entire situation. Ultimately the dress was beautiful, I still had an amazing wedding, but the lack of accountability and follow-through afterward was extremely frustrating and disappointing. I would caution future brides to not rely on promises made once the sale is complete. read more

So happy with Flares! Booking an appointment was super easy on their website and im so glad I was able to bring my parents, grandma, aunt, and cousin with me to find my dress! I had a dress in mind already from their website and luckily it was still there. I tried on 3 dresses from their sample sale rack, but knew that first dress I had my eye on was THE ONE! Lisa was so kind and helpful throughout the whole process! They were busy that day, but she was kind and apologetic for not being present the whole time. The shop is sunny and bright, with 3 big mirrors and fitting rooms. There a lot of dress choices and good choices on their sample sale rack as well! So happy I said YES to the dress! I was debating to get alterations elsewhere, but decided to come back to Flares! Couldn't beat the prices! The process was smooth as well. I scheduled a day to come in and get measured and left my dress in good hands! I scheduled a day to come back to pick up my dress and am so excited to try it on! read more

Horrible customer service. After making the reservation the shop moved the appointment to a later time. In the meantime a decision to purchase a dress from another shop was made a Flares was notified immediately as to not waste their time. When told to send an email and they'll see what they can do they, we said we'd go to the appointment to avoid the fee although we were notifying them out of respect for their time. They failed to communicate and allow us to make the final decision to follow through with the appointment and instead charged $189 cancellation fee. When asked about it we were told the dress shop where we decided to purchase from should cover the cancellation fee, which is ludicrous. Do NOT waste your time at Flares. They are just looking to make money in unethical ways. Fail to communicate yet expect customers to be flexible with them. Poor business practices. read more
