I blow hot and cold on Bluegrass, but mostly cold…read more First, the pros: the service is friendly and helpful. (They couldn't seat the group I was with together, but that's our bust: none of us thought to call ahead and make a reservation -- on a Saturday night. Like Susan Calvin in I, Robot, we're the dumbest smart people you've ever met.) The decor is trying really hard to be fun (like buckets instead of sinks in the loo). And most of the group I was with was really enthusiastic about the food. There's an accessible loo on the ground floor for those who can't handle the stairs. Now, the cons. I'm diabetic. Now, the problem with being diabetic is that, when you say 'I can't eat that. It's bad for me.' about something laced with sugar or otherwise high in carbohydrates, most people who aren't diabetic (and some who are) will reply with 'a little bit won't hurt.' There are a couple of problems with that attitude: first, when you're hungry, you don't *want* 'a little bit', you want *food*. Second, if you have 'a little bit' every time you go anywhere, then you're going to 'little bit' yourself into an early grave. Bluegrass seems to be based on the premise that American food is all about three things: slow cooking over a smoky fire, lots of spice, and lots of sugar. Now, my dietician keeps reminding me that the combination of fats, carbs, and salt is addictive. And, for me, it's toxic. This is the kind of place that I would have liked to eat when I was a little kid and hated vegetables, because there are basically no vegetables on the menu. (No, buddy, potatoes don't count as a vegetable. Nor, sadly, does corn. When I was a kid, it was the only 'vegetable' that I liked. It turns out that, nutritionally, it's just carbs. Onions and pickles count as vegetables, but not after you batter them and deep fry them. Bean are vegetables, too, if you don't lace them with sugar.) So the first time I was brought here, a few years ago, after looking vainly through the menu for something safe for me to eat, I walked out and went somewhere else. It's not like I didn't like the group I was with then, but the company isn't worth my health. This time, I thought I had found something at least semi-healthy, because the Tennessee fried chicken wrap has lettuce and tomato in it. I should have known that the lettuce and tomato were more garnishes than ingredients. What I didn't expect was for the coleslaw to be laced with pepper. That made it inedible for my sweetie, but she wasn't missing much, because I don't recall eating nastier coleslaw in my life. The wrap wasn't great either. I suspect that the problem was the maple mayo, because the other ingredients were all things that I eat fairly often. My sweetie was having other problems, too. She thought that the chicken and waffle would be safe, but the breading was practically black with peppercorns. (Fortunately, she was able to peel the breading off, and the capsicum apparently hadn't made its way into the chicken.) The waffle was partially black because it was burned. I have had worse meals, but not for a long time. Never again.

We came here for a pre-football match meal, which meant we were right on the margins for the breakfast or lunch menu. As I had arrived first, I checked how firm the 1145 cut off was - it was pretty firm! My friends were due to arrive bang on 1145, so I took pictures of the menu and sent them to their phones so they could choose before they arrived. Job done. I placed the order for a Smokehouse plate, sausage bun, Baconana pancake and cheese and bacon pancakes, with coffee or tea to go with them. It was a little odd to be asked to pay in advance, as if it was a fast food restaurant, but I settled up and waited for my friends and the food to arrive. After my friends had settled in, we didn't have too long to wait before the dishes were brought to us. The Smokehouse plate was a gigantic fried breakfast dish, with baked eggs as a side. The two pancake dishes were 3 stacks and very filling, while the sausage bun was a smaller serving. All were well received and polished off in no time at all. The service was very good, well timed, understated and unfussy. We left a good tip. It's a well priced place, not cheap but not too pricey either. A nice chilled and confident ambience. A good choice all round.

So if you're looking for a place to dine out, this isn't it. That said, I got my sweetie some fish, chips, and coleslaw. She said that the fish and chips were very good. (I asked her if it was as good as the battered cod at Wimpy, and she said, "No, but it's still very good!") She was much, much less happy with the coleslaw. She couldn't bring herself to eat it, so I'm taking off a star for that. Still, as long as you're not looking for coleslaw with your fish (or chicken), Mr Cod would be a good choice.

I share everything that has been said in the previous review but I need to make it clear to one and all that if you eat in High Wycombe, like good value and tasty food, then this is the place for you. If you like good chips, not those frilly slimline tonic things you get from McDonalds, and you like them fat, soft, tasty and cooked almost to perfection then you seriously need to get in the queue and order away. I've never been in there for longer than 5 minutes and I always come out with a sad fat man smile just desperate to sit down and chomp away. They do awesome sauce / dips. If Curry is your thing, make sure you don't come away without ordering it. If spicy is your thing, then make sure you tell em (ring sore so I hear!!). They have a numbered board as you enter the shop 1 to about 16 (they keep adding things). Number 1 is my fave chicken burger and large chips (ol yes thank you) Dr Pepper drink and mild curry sauce. I used to love number 9 which I believe is 4 chicken strips coated in a spicy mix. It used to repeat during my sleep (apparently) and doing the swap has definitely saved me from divorce. Women eh? LOL I wish you all well and hope this has given you a good understanding what I think of the take away. At the end of the day it is only a fish and chip shop that sells lots of chicken?!? but believe me, one visit and no other will get a look in. Great value, great taste and its fun watching the lads who work there racing around trying to keep up with demand. Happy Eating, Churchie!!

This place does exactly what it says on the tin... Burgers! So tonight was really busy, pretty much every table taken, this didn't matter though we were shown straight to our table and given menus. You place your orders on tick box forms, and then give them back to the waiting staff. There's loads to chose from with out being over whelmed. Basically you chose your meat (or veggie burger) there's about 8 options inc lamb, chicken etc. then an extra filling, 2 sauces and a side all for around £8, bargain! Food was delivered to the table within 10 minutes, I would highly recommend the 6oz beef burger, grilled bacon and blue cheese with a side of fries, yummy!!!! My friend had the 6oz beef, Cheddar and onion rings which look equally delicious and somewhat mouth watering! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the service was faultless. I really like the decor, clean, crisp and modern with no gimmicks which is a refreshing change to some other burger places around. They have an out side decked sitting area at the front, which considering this place is on a bustling high street really catches your eye and quiet inviting. Great for couples and small groups, I probably wouldn't want to take a big group of rowdy friends, apart from anything else they probably wouldn't fit many in. I would definitely go back and recommend to others.

The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly, welcoming and very helpful to me with my buggy - there are some steep steps to get up to get into the building but someone came and helped me in (not sure how wheelchair users will get in but I'm sure they'll have that covered) I opted for the straightforward beef burger and my friend went for the wild boar burger, I had pulled pork and cheddar cheese as a topping (pulled pork on a burger it would turn out is delicious) I loved the fact that you got free refills on soft drinks, left there buzzing having drunk way too much coke!! I ordered corn On he cob as a side as my baby loves it and also some hash browns. The only thing stopping me from giving this 5 stars was the chips, we went for hand cut chips which were more like wedges than chips and not that nice, next time I will go for fries though and maybe I'll update this with an additional star. I also do fear that on a busy week day lunch time the place may become too rammed up with buggies as north street is parent central, I'm sure the management will be able to come up with an innovative solution though. All in all a very nice meal, we didn't pay but if we had I would have come away feeling that I had got very good value for money.
