"Owners Engineering Geniuses?" On prior visits, they showed off their electronic equipment which controls the brewing process. Today, they also let me look at their brewery setup. Absolutely fascinating, and they were kind enough to explain how it all works. The owners were kind enough to let me tour their brewery in the back room. They are absolute experts and I'm so impressed with their understanding of the business. I even watched them as they poured the barley and other chemicals into their brewing vat. I don't pretend to understand all of the steps that they were taking, but it was interesting to watch. A great place for a friendly visit and a brew. Plus they're just all-around nice people. I had a chance today to order a light beer, a blond, for $6.50 a pint. Just what the doctor ordered! This is one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in town. We came here with family on Sunday during the farmers market when it was almost 100 degrees out. Wow, what a great place! Nice, clean and cool indoor space. Friendly staff that provided recommendations and cool beers on tap. The names are unique and I can't remember them. But we got a guava one which was a crowd favorite. Couldn't ask for more. This place has a lot of potential, they are basically David versus Goliath so to speak with respect to Del Cielo; however, with a little bit more volumes of CO2, and chill on the darker bears so to speak. We got five stars. read more

Love the new location. The atmosphere is beyond great and love the new lay out. The old location provided that nice local type of ambiance but it is nice that there is a ton of open space and room to sit which was lacking. Out of all the brew places in Martinez, Five Suns Brewing is my favorite. The staff is super friendly and chill, great place to bring the kids, what more can you ask for? You can also find a featured food truck on the weekends to get your grub on and soak in all of the booze or stop by the marketplace to grab some food. Review 100 of 2017 goes out to a new brewery in town! Awesome brewery run by Martinez locals. Five Suns is located in the up and coming Downtown Martinez. Martinez will be home to three breweries all within a block of one another! Great for a night out with friends. Five Suns has seven beers on tap consisting of an IPA, Amber, Porter, Blonde, Stout, Pale, and a Cream Ale. With the variety, everyone if your party should be able to find something they like. They also offer $2 tasters so you can make a flight or try a few. All of their beers were easy to drink but had are still robust and flavorful. The brewery itself is dog and kid friendly. They plan on adding food in the future, but for now feel free to bring your own. All of the staff was friendly and easily approachable. It was a fun and easy going environment and everyone also enjoying their brews were friendly. The ambiance is great, with lots of woodworking and interesting light fixtures. They do not have heating at the moment, so bring a jacket as it is a little chilly out but drinking to create a beer jacket will also help. read more

Just an FYI, Five Suns changed locations from around Escobar Street to Main Street. It used to be near Del Cielo Brewing; there's a miniature golf business there now. Anyway, I remember the beer being better at the aforementioned location. I don't know, something just seemed off from the blonde ale to the porter and finally the stout, which had a weird aftertaste I couldn't place. However, the plus side of this new location is that it comes with a large gathering area that easily allows for a food truck and band. Also, it's family friendly so parents can grab a bite and brew and not have to find a sitter for the young ones. read more

Asked the female bartender for a recommendation since it was our first time visiting and she had an attitude from the very beginning . She rolled her eyes and said to me... I get it! Just when I started to feel a tad bit homesick for Cincy/nky, I stumble across this place. This almost identical to the set up at Braxton Brewery in Covington, Ky, along with the same concept! This brewery is very open. You walk in with a huge open storefront to several tables and a bar. The beer options are on the huge chalkboard menu on the wall. No food is served here, but you are welcome to order delivery from local restaurants or better yet use yelp delivery :) my advice to the brewery is to put that responsibility on the patrons who ordered the food. I saw several food orders come in and the brewery staff had to hunt down the people who ordered it- no bueno. Focus on your customers ordering beer and let the customers watch for their own food. The brewery is towards the back, right past some big Jenga blocks and the bathrooms. Very family friendly and most tables were playing a game, which was so nice to see people not in their phones. They offer samples, which was great so I could taste several of their beers. All of them were really good! And in true Amanda fashion- what's a review from me without a bathroom update. I feel a bit torn writing this review because my husband I love Five Suns. We live in Martinez and have followed their beer for years. We enjoy the beer and service, especially at the new location. The unfortunate part is that this place has become absolutely overrun with young children. We both love kids and can understand that this is a family friendly establishment. However, this Friday evening was a final straw to an ongoing problem. There were kids of all ages screaming, crying, and jumping on and off tables. Many seemed unsupervised as their adults drank and chatted with others. Again, we enjoy kids, but is this a brewery or a playground/Chuck-ee-cheese? The outside area was out of control so we went inside. Sure enough, there were infants and toddlers screaming and running around in the bar area as well. Is this safe? I wish Five Suns would establish some basic expectations to allow all patrons to have a peaceful evening with a few adult beverages. You're better off going to another establishment. read more
