We were meeting friends at Creek Monkey for a birthday thing and took this as the perfect opportunity to arrive a bit early and swing by Five Suns for a taster or four. The place was packed on a Sunday afternoon! We did end up grabbing seats in the little "living room" by the front window. Comfortable, although way too hot with the sun coming through the big window. Luckily, the children using the table to eat pizza left within 10 minutes and we were able to shift over to a cooler spot. Speaking of food, they partner with a few food neighbors if you want something more substantial than a snack.The day we were there the options were pizza and zombies (classic cheese or ham and cheese) from Two Jays Pizza. Lemongrass Bistro and Beaver Creek Smokehouse also provide a few options, according to their website. I suppose this is late in a brewery review to comment on the beer... It's okay. I actually preferred the pale over the IPA, which is out of beer character for me. The porter and stout were quite good. Happy to have another beer option in downtown Martinez, so I look forward to returning and tasting the other brews they have to offer. read more

Sucks to write this, but hopefully they're on track to fix things. The new location is great and the outside patio area is fantastic. Food trucks are back and you can't ask for much more...except for beer. I understand there are issues getting things set up and what not, but you can't be a brewery and only have two beers on tap. Imagine going to a restaurant and they only have a couple menu items when you're used to 40? This review isn't for the actual team, just the situation at hand. Well the first of two new breweries that are coming to Martinez is open! Came here on their opening weekend with friends and had a great time. They were slammed busy but still got through the lines quick and we're friendly upon our arrival. They have a good selection of beers and I was happy to see that they had a stout as those are my favorite. I decided to do the 5 ounce flight so I could taste most of their beers and they were all pretty solid. I am no beer connoisseur but I thought they were tasty. They've done a really good job renovating the building and the Edison light-bulbs and reclaimed wood are definitely the look for breweries these days. The owners seem to be the ones working behind the counter right now and their website says it is five local friends who decided to start this in their spare time. Not bad! I will definitely be coming back here on weekends for a chill place to hang out. PS love the games on the tables! read more

A welcoming small brewery with a good variety of house made beers, from light to semi dark. A causal place with stools, chairs, comfy chairs, tables for 2 or a small group. Games disbursed about and you can bring your dog in. There's food available from the nearby restaurants, you pick, they call, someone delivers. A bit loud, but it is a brewery. Nice for a causal place to meet up with friends, chat & grab a snack. read more

Newly opened brewery in Martinez ca. Stop by here on our way to Berkeley and had three tasters. Valkyrie Blond, Forester IPA and Reliez Pale. Nice ambience and friendly people. Didn't try any food. They had board games to play. Arrived 15 minutes after opening and the place always filling up. read more

This place was cool. I'd come here again! It was very diverse in age and species lol. There were babies from 6 months old to granny's of at least 65 years old, so the place is family oriented. They provide games for u to play which is always fun. Their beers were so so, that's why I deducted a star and there were only like 7 options maybe. The facility was nice and very open to the outside and there was also a food truck pulled up right outside which was cool. Prices weren't too bad either. read more

One of our favorite downtown spots. You can feel good supporting your local businesses (it was started by 5 local Alhambra High Alumni), and relax with your beer or play a board game in this cozy and laid-back setting. On nice weather days they open the garage-style front so you can take in some of the nearby waterfront breeze. It's dog/kid friendly and has indoor bike racks for those looking for that post-ride beer. Hungry? They have a menu featuring a 3 or 4 downtown Martinez restaurants so you can order food with your beer and they will bring it by for you. They have a rotating tap, but some of my personal favorites include Frenchies Cream Ale, O.G. Burst, and the Reliez. If you are looking for a gift for the craft beer fan in your life, there's also lots of great merch. Oh, and as a side note: I've always gotten great service here from the owners. Nick in particular always makes a point to get a laugh or smile out of my toddler and tbh I have a tough time dragging my husband away from chatting with any them. DelCielo next door has great beers and a big space, but I've found it's harder to get the beertenders attention and then the interaction is typically just transactional. read more

I made a return visit July 6. Not much change in the physical setup; I was tickled to notice that "dog friendly" now extends to offering dog treats. Oh, and an interesting bit of furniture that may have been there on my previous visit, but I just noticed now: a modern reproduction of a Victorian fainting couch. Bet your local brewpub doesn't have one of those! Lots of free street parking on weekends; I presume the meters are in use on weekdays, when parking is tight due to the nearby courthouse. Close enough to the Martinez Amtrak station that it would be practicable to visit by train (Capital Corridor and San Joaquin lines) if you're so inclined. Pub crawlers please note: actually located in the same building as Del Cielo Brewing, and just down the street from Creek Monkey Tap House/Rock Steady Brewing. One downside: rather limited hours; open only Friday through Sunday. I sampled their current rotation; four-ounce tasters are now $2.25 each. Here's what was new to me. - Valkyrie Blonde Ale. 5.2% ABV, 21 IBU. Clear bright gold; white halo-and-patches head. Mild lemony nose. Although an ale, the flavor profile is (I'm sure intentionally) similar to that of a good mainstream lager. Grainy malt base: Pale and Munich malts. Hopped with Magnum and Cascade. Crisp and refreshing, with a citrus note. - Frenchie's Orange-Vanilla Cream Ale (on nitro). 5.0%, 16 IBU. Clear gold; light white head, with lace. Orange dominates the nose and taste; I didn't pick up any particular vanilla presence. Smooth nitro mouth feel. Two-row malt, with flaked corn and rice adjuncts. Lightly hopped with Magnum and East Kent Goldings. - Ernst Amber Ale. 5.5%, 37 IBU. Clear amber; light cream head. Toffee and somewhat bready nose. Sweet caramelized malt and nutty taste. Pale, Munich, and Crystal malts. Hopped with Magnum and Centennial. - Reliez Pale Ale. Clear brass; light white head. 6.8%, 56 IBU. Indistinct nose, with a touch of cattiness. Bitter (Mosaic and Citra hops) against a strong malt backbone (Pale and Crystal). Tropical fruit and citrus notes. - Forester IPA. 7.0%, 70 IBU. Clear brass; light white head. Pine and peach nectar nose. Grapefruit note in taste; long bitter finish. Hopped with Cascade and Centennial. Very much a traditional West Coast IPA, none of your trendy New England hazy foofraw. - Singularity Double IPA. 9.4%. 100 IBU. Clear copper, with a medium white head, leaving heavy lace on the glass. Piney nose. Earthy, citrus, and peach notes, with noticeable ethanol warmth. Hopped with Simcoe and Southern Cross. read more

What you've done with your new location in Martinez looks great...just one hint: you might want to consider moving the 4 trash cans over into the space right next to States and as far away from your customers as possible. Just came here from a laborious day back at work. This place is locally owned from 5 friends that have been solid since they were just kids. If you can't trust that, I don't know what trust is. Good location with friendly staff and a nice interior and outside seating. They have a board game area with some couches so you can sit and play with some friends. They are very dog friendly, several people came by with their dogs and came in for a drink. They even had a mobile pet adoption today with volunteers from the Martinez Shelter. They don't serve food here, but you can order from the surrounding food places and they'll bring the food to you. read more

My favorite thing there is the seltzers that they mix with different flavors. They have 16% alcohol too which is AMAZING! However, it's hit or miss if they even have the seltzers anymore and I'm not a fan of beer so this is not the place for me. One man that works there is super rude, and we got off on the wrong foot. I tried to apologize and make up since something must have been misconstrued and he refused to shake my hand. I can't imagine going back after his rudeness. read more
