Avoid Peter's Plumbing / Five Star Plumbing & Septic -- Overpriced, Dishonest, Incompetent, and Unsafe.
If you value your time, money, and sanity, DO NOT hire Peter's Plumbing / Five Star Plumbing & Septic. My experience with them was an absolute nightmare that dragged on for 7 months -- for a job that should have taken no more than 7-10 days.
The issue began on July, 2024, with a main water line leak. I hired them based on false promises, and the project finally ended on February, 2025, after endless stress, city violations, delays, and repeated incompetence. Here are all the details you need to know:
1. Overpriced and Deceptive -- They quoted me a ridiculously high price and pretended to offer a "discount." Later, after speaking with other licensed plumbers, I realized I was still grossly overcharged.
2. Dishonest Behavior -- They initially promised to cut the street down the center for the water line installation, then without finalizing the contract, started cutting on the side of the street and then pressured me to sign the contract afterward. They do not honor their commitments.
3. Shady Business Practices - They issued an invoice under "Five Star Plumbing & Septic" while obtaining the city permit under "Peter's Plumbing," which raises serious concerns. Peter's plumbing has such bad reviews that apparently the owner started "Five Star Plumbing & Septic" in order to mislead potencial customers when in reality they are the same bad company.
4. Poor Workmanship & Multiple Failures - The first attempt to fix my water line failed due to bad workmanship.
5. Permit Violations --A city inspector issued a violation because they started to work without a required permit -- something that any competent, licensed company should never overlook.
6. Negligence and Danger --They left an open trench in the street. An elderly woman nearly fell into it. Despite my repeated calls, they ignored the situation until the city inspector forced them to act due to a violation. Even then, they used the wrong materials to cover the trench.
7. Permit Incompetence -- On August 2024, I was told that their permit application had been voided because they submitted it as a commercial permit instead of residential. This mistake caused weeks of additional delays. Even after resubmitting, they continued to send incorrect documentation.
8. Lack of Communication -- I was repeatedly put on hold for 20 minutes or more, only to be told that "the permit is still pending or any other lie just to get me out of the way" When I called from a different phone number, they answered immediately, proving they were intentionally avoiding my calls.
9. Ongoing Mistakes and Delays -- On September 2024, they scheduled the wrong type of inspection, further delaying progress. The city inspector confirmed that this was entirely their fault.
10. Missing Documents for Final Inspection -- On October 2024, the city postponed the final inspection because Peter's Plumbing failed to submit the required engineering documents.
11. No Responsibility from Management -- By December 2024, after months of delays, they admitted they couldn't find an engineer to sign off on the work because this report should have been submitted before covering the trench and not after. Their own employees asked me if I "knew an engineer" that could help in this process--The level of unethical behavior is shocking.
12. A 7-Month Nightmare -- After constantly following up with them and dealing directly with the city inspector myself, the final inspection was completed on February 2025 after having to cut some part of the trench to perform the required test, seven months after they started.
The Bottom Line: Peter's Plumbing / Five Star Plumbing & Septic is dishonest, overpriced, incompetent, and reckless. They caused serious legal issues, safety hazards, and unnecessary endless delays.
