After passing by several choices, we were both happy we made the choice to stop in. While the outside area is hookah oriented, the indoor seating is vibrant and comfortable for a full and proper meal. We stopped in around 8 pm and proceeded to order a mix of items. To begin, we had the three dips (baba, hummus, roasted red pepper hummus) which was the perfect starter given how hungry we both were. Additionally, the V mango mojitos were the right balance and quenches our long walk induced thirst. The fried kibbeh were next, piping hot and delicious. For the entree portion, we shared the large and plentiful lamb shank tagine (broth was solid and the lamb shank was melt in your mouth good) and the chicken shish kebab (the sauce and marination was exceptional). Both were presented very nicely. The chicken was exceptional and the tagine was very flavorful. We ended the night wuite appropriately with some nice, piping hot tea. Overall, the meal was a very memorable part of my Sydney trip - definitely recommend the food, ambiance, and the smooth dinner experience.

They were so enticing, baba ganoush and all, you couldn't stop eating the addictive food! I also really enjoyed the mains, and loved how the meat was brought out on a skewer - it looked a little badass, like a sword skewering the prey! Overall, great place to eat, although the service isn't very polite, and have a tendency to be a little impatient!

Fatima's on Cleveland Street in Surry Hills (nearing Redfern), is one of the good ones. Many a time I have stumbled in from the Norfolk across the way in search of some quick, cheap eats. I wouldn't even venture to recount the details (of anything) on those occasions but I have, however, been to Fatima's whilst sober. And eating a sober kebab is something I very rarely do. The freshness and zest of their hommus is worth noting all on its own. Sometimes I take home a whole tub of it (for $7, I believe), to eat with veggies during the week. Usually, I go for the falafel kebab, if I'm goin' big. The tabouli is amazing as well. If you're indulging, please don't NOT get the baklava, we're talking life-changing flakey, ooie, googie greatness in puffy square form. Don't tell anyone, but one time I went in there and got one, ate it, paused, reflected, got another one, ate that, pondered, praised, then NEARLY got a third. A friend had to intervene. And wanna know what else? Fatima's is open til 3am! Boom, put that in your hooka and smoke it.

Tried the vegetarian platter to get an all around feel for the dishes ($20 pp), and added on some vegetarian lady fingers ($8). Not sure why "lady fingers" is a popular name for food, but here, it refers to flakey filo stuffed with spinach, onions, and a little ricotta cheese doused in a serious amount of lemon juice. Indeed, the baba ghanouj, tahini, and eggplant they served were all way sour for my tastes. The filo on the lady fingers was wet as all the food is preprepared and sitting under a heat lamp. The falafel was solid, but not particularly seasoned or flavorful, and with so many enticing smells wafting down this street from other Lebanese eateries, I'd keep exploring. Nice folks work here, but atmosphere wise, the dining room is dark and has a bit of a smell.

This seems to attract smokers, and I think there's a hookah going on sometimes too. The interior restaurant may suffer from this, however. As a rather self-righteous ex-smoker, this would drive me mad on any potential repeat visits, but I think there's interior courtyard seating too out the back, so maybe that would be an escape. Then again, maybe it would just be more smoking section... The service is pleasant and friendly, the waitress was happy to offer us explanations of their traditional Lebanese dishes and made some introductory suggestions, which I never mind at a new restaurant or new cuisine. I have had food like this before under other labels but the Lebanese spin seems to be unique added spices and ingredients, like pomegranate seeds in the side salad, and a distinctive pita-like bread with thinner texture but equally delicious and perfect for dipping. The kebabs were tender and the side dips were garlicky and yummy. All in all a cute new place which I recommend trying, especially since there's not many restaurants with similar Middle-eastern cuisine in the immediate vicinity.

A per usual we order more food then we needed but it was all so good. The hummus and chicken skewers were to die for! The food came out in a good flow and the table was cleared promptly, the staff were friendly. Although they are fully licensed 4 stars for not having a cocktail menu and when ordering getting a "oh that's complicated" laugh from staff. Biggest tip call in before showing up and order small first, food comes out quick so don't worry.
