This is the second time I've used Five Star Flooring. First time was one year ago when they were the subcontractors for some new flooring in my former Gilroy home. They did a fantastic job so I took their names and figured if I ever needed new flooring I would hire them directly. So here we go,1 year later, I decided I needed to move up closer to San Jose near friends and family. I bought a home in The Villages -San Jose which had dark brown flooring which I did not want! So I called Five Star, talked to Joe, asked if I could come in to look at some new flooring for my new house. Initially I was going to replace the floor in the new house with the same flooring I put in the Gilroy house but It was discontinued so Joe happily found something that I liked even better, which was all grey and white, no taupe!! PERFECT! Well Joe ordered it quickly for me because I was on a time schedule. They did another fantastic job.!! The workers were there on time, worked hard making sure everything was straight and everything was done perfectly. When we first went to their show room and selected our wood and carpet with Andrea; there was no pressure at all... their main priority was to ensure we got exactly what we wanted. Once my husband and I made our selection it went very quickly, Joe came over took the measurement and gave his advise on what we were thinking. Within a week and a half our material's came in and the guys did the job all in one day (carpet in 4 rooms and the stairs, wood floor upstairs hallway) the installers Edgar and Eduardo are very professional and educated and will answer any questions and concerns that you may have. Yelp steered my to this business when I needed to replace my old carpet. The head guy, Joe Allen, is very knowledgeable and quite personable and has years of experience in the flooring business. I spent an hour at his warehouse getting trained by him on what my options were for carpet, pad, etc and the price was very appealing. He was very patient and answered all my questions. Joe and his crew have been doing flooring for years as contractors for Lowes and a year ago went public. Joe deals gets specials from Beaulieu Carpet which used to be called Coronet (http://usa.beaulieuflooring.com/). We bought a closeout and got a great carpet at a great price. The 2 man crew that came and laid the carpet were all of who you would want in your house; clean, friendly, careful, quiet, and efficient. Erin the office manager corrected all the "screw ups" that Lowe's made. She followed up with me daily and kept me informed as to what was going on. They have been so flexible with our installs...since we have had to do it in stages. The installers are amazing, quick, efficient and CLEAN. We ordered carpet through Lowes and wanted to go local for installation. We read the reviews about Five Star and were very impressed. We first met with Joe Allen who measusred our home and answered all our questions. He measured so accurately that there was hardly any waste when the job was completed. The installation was incredible. Jeremy, Monte and Tyler were our installers. After removing the old carpet they cleaned the floors--removed the old staples, swept the floor and vacumed. They didn't mind if we interrupted to ask questions. Always these gentlemen were polite, courteous, and professional. Our installation was perfect. Lowes is very fortunate to contract with Five Star and we highly recommend their service. We were asked to rate Five Star on a scale of 1-7. We, of course, gave them a 7 but a 10 is more deserving. We've been looking for carpet for 2 years and Joe and his guys were great. Joe knows his carpet and was so knowledgeable and helpful!! We were very pleased with the price. Edgar and Eduardo came to the house to install our carpet. They were extremely careful with moving furniture, professional and courteous. We had a problem with our living room because our tile was higher than the carpet. They told us we needed to put in additional plywood to make the carpet even with the tile; however, let us make the decision. They called Joe to get a quote and took care of everything, including going to the store to buying it. Joe was immediately available to help with this problem. Also, we were concerned that all this would take more than a day, but they stayed until the work was done. Our furniture was assembled and put back into places. All I can say is that Five Star Floors was amazing and we are so pleased with their work!! read more

About 8 months ago I purchased ~2200 sq ft of Pergo Max flooring from Lowes and they subcontracted out to Five Star Floors to do the installation. The crew, Jerry and Jose, did an absolutely amazing job and, 8 months later it still looks like it was completed just yesterday. Carpet Install- 3 Bedrooms. These guys did a carpet install for me through Lowes. (I purchased the carpet at Lowes and Lowes used Five Star Floors to do the installation). Everyone I interacted with at the company was super friendly and polite, the woman over the phone, Joe who came to measure, and Jeremy and the other installer who did the actual installation. Joe, who I believe is the owner, came out to do the measurements soon after I purchased the carpet. Five Star called me on a Friday to tell me my carpets had arrived and that they could be out to install on Monday. 2 guys showed up right on time Monday with the carpet and padding I had chosen. They had me inspect it to be sure it was correct. It took about 4 hours to do all 3 bedrooms, including shaving down 3 doors which didn't have enough clearance to open and close with the carpets in place. They were very polite and cleaned up everything when they were done, including a first vacuuming of the new carpets. They had me walk through and inspect to make sure I was happy, but they didn't step on the carpets again with their work boots on once they had been cleaned. :) The best part was, had a crawl space in one of the closets that led under the house. They had said they would leave that part of the carpet untacked so that we could still access it. They did such a great job that a week later when I discovered I needed to get under the house, I had to call them because I couldn't see any seems in the carpet so I couldn't find the crawl space! Jeremy was going to drive back to my house to show me how to open it, when I finally caught a glimpse of a seam and was able to find the crawl space and open it up. They definitely did a professional job! read more

This company is misleading. Purchased expensive flooring through Lowes and both Lowes and Five Star failed to meet all expectations. Joe was involved from the beginning and as project failed Joe had an excuse for what he believed was out of his control. Both him and Lowes failed miserably. Hired third party and manufacturer rep who both confirmed installation was poor and not up to their standards. At first I trusted Joe especially since he raves about his 30 years of experience. Should be Six Stars. Had vinyl faux wood look planking installed in two large areas - one with dated hardwood and the other carpet. Got two quotes: one from Five Star and the other from Brand X north of us. Brand X needed a full demolish by someone other than themselves that included tearing up the old hardwood, removing baseboards, etc. Joe did not. Brand X wanted a contractor paid by someone else to make sure the floor under the carpet was perfectly level. Joe did not. Brand X offered a medium grade planking while Joe offered a higher grade with cork backing. Here's the kicker: Joe's full-service quote was 33% less and we didn't have to hire a demo team and suffer the absolute mess that would have happened. Thanks to fellow Yelpers we felt confident that Five Star was a safe selection so fast forward to installation. Being a grumpy pessimist in my senior years I can only be stunned with the professionalism, knowledge, care for my personal property, and skill of our installation crew of Jerry, Jose and Eddie. An especially challenging area around a rough stone fireplace was impeccably addressed. My commercial contractor building site managing engineer son-in-law was even impressed. Jerry is nothing short of awesome (not to take credit away from Jose or Eddie, of course). These guys know their, umm, stuff. Bottom line I'm here to tell ya if you go anywhere but Joe's Five Star you're out of your mind. Pros: cost effective, skilled, South County locals. Cons: none. read more

Owner Joe Allen came to our home, measured 3 bedrooms, living room and a hallway, assured us that they would pull up all the carpet and strips, hammer the nails down, and take care of the flooring before laying the Pergo laminate down. Besides pulling up the carpet, they would also haul it away with them, just another thing we did not have to worry about. Joe also agreed to work with us and do the installing in two days since we were moving furniture/painting from one room to another. So on Friday and the following Monday Jerry and Jose showed up and work diligently throughout the day making sure our flooring was measured/cut and laid perfectly. We are very happy that we did business with these men at Five Star Floors and would DEFINITELY recommend their business to anyone interested in quality work. They are true professionals, answering any questions we had about the flooring, cleaning up after themselves and making sure the whole job was done to our satisfaction before ever leaving the job. Just over two years ago bought carpet for our house from Lowe's and Joe and his team did the install. Two years later the carpet looks as if it was installed yesterday. No stretching, loose spots etc, Just perfect and they did it in one ( albeit long) day. But we were thrilled with the outcome. Fast forward to the present and we finally were able to get tile in our kitchen/entryway/pantry area. Found the tile we wanted at Lowe's and then learned Five Star was no longer their installer. Bad business decision on Lowe's part! Went with their installer at first until they came to measure and to be honest, felt they were tacking on additional costs that didn't need to be and wouldn't do the tear out of the old floor. Found Joe's number again and gave him a call. He came right out, took the measurements for the kitchen as well as laundry room and bathrooms that will be done later.Explained everything to me and quoted a fair price that included tear out. Jerry and Jose showed up on install day and went right to work. Ran into a unforeseen problem with the old sub floor being glued down but they kept at it and were able to get the floor cleaned up and then did the install. I watched these two men for over a week work and have to say,I've never seen such personal pride in what they do. Jerry checked each tile before laying them down and made sure the tile ran in the right direction and the grout lines could not be any straighter. Some of the cuts Jose made to the tile to get them just right, were amazing. Jerry made sure each tile was level. They put the "craft" back into "craftsmanship". Seriously, they paid so much attention to detail there's nothing else to call it. They will be doing the rest of our tile work in the near future! You spend a lot of money on flooring so you should have the best install it right the first time. You won't go wrong with Five Star Floors and Joe Allen and his crew! read more
