I want to give a personal shout out to Heidi. I came in a bit frantic because my father with Alzheimer's wanted to watch the World Cup ... it was hard to find places that weren't super rowdy at the moment, I came in and told Heidi my situation. She personally made a little corner for my father and me to watch the game. My father had a NA beer & for a moment he felt like his true self. I also want to give a shout out to the patrons, if you know anyone with dementia is a bit different. We got treated with respect and just normal humans. Also just the bar itself is super cool and drink prices are AMAZING. You got pool tables, tvs, nice guest and lovely bartender oh and a patio!!!! I will be coming back. No fluff or frills here and I love that. I love the smell of cigarettes being smoked on the patio, the noise of pool balls smacking into the table, a juke box so you can play your favorite songs. This is your down-to-earth, drama free, mellow bar with kind patrons and cool bartenders. I've met a man twice my age and at the end of the night we were crying together. I've had duck Deviled eggs that I presume a regular brought in. I've sat on Santa's lap and I don't remember much after that. My point is: always a good time here and that's what makes 5 points my favorite dive bar in Escondido. If you're prissy or abhor the smell of cigarettes this probably isn't your scene. read more

Update: This place is still a good place to go. Great prices, miss the pizza though that helped them stay open during the pandemic, and it seems the pool tables are now almost always for leagues. Excellent place to come for good price drinks and a happy atmosphere. During the holidays they have special events, and if your good a pool they have a leauge. 2nd visit here.. first time was about a year ago...this time we were sitting at the brig...and I realized that we were really close to five points. my friends really liked the dive bar idea so we finished our marg and fish taco and walked over to five points. there were corner seats available at the bar (my favorite) and we posted up. The server was super quick to help us and made us some stiff drinks. We quickly started up conversation with the locals around us. They had Brought in food and offered us some. Wow so friendly! I decide to stop buy five points for my birthday and play a game of pool. That was what I thought would have happened. I asked if any tables were open out of the three. I was told that two of the tables were locked in with games on day that it was supposed to be open tables. Then I put my name on the board for the third table. When the people before me scratched, I pulled the rack up and and was yelled at by a customer saying that they had made different rules to the game and that the game was still going. They also decided to add there names to the bottom off the board and lie and say it was already there. Instead of cussing that Fe mail out, I decided to not ruin my night and just leave. This is not the first time that this has happened at this bar, and why I have to tell myself again. Never come back. The local customers feel that they run this bar, and push out anyone looking for a good night out. Working in the hospitality industry, shows me that this is not the way a business should run and anyone who supports this kind of behavior should be shut down. For the bar itself. Small bar not enough seating for drinkers. Over run by pool leagues. Still with old decor and an old stench. Need a little TLC to everything as well as the customers they keep. I recommend people keep driving when they see that sign, and hit old town Escondido instead. At least their hospitality is much better and you have choices to where you want to go. Cool dive bar with great pool tables. Honestly, these are the best pool tables I've seen in San Diego hands down. Everyone's been pretty chill when I've been here. The staff is always super friendly and funny. This is a great place to play pool with cool people. One chill a$$ bar Now from what I understand many locals find this bar to be filled with sketchy people but I didn't get that impression, I've been here plenty of times to realize that what you see is what you get, a lot of blue collar folks just looking to unwind and relax after a hell of a week at work. This bar reminds me of a VFW in that a lot of the drink specials are extremely low priced and there's a lot of older people during happy hour, aside from that this is just your typical bar with a pretty cool bar tender willing to pour you a refreshingly cold beer and listen to your bs all while being super pleasant. Yeah they may not have ALL the local micro brew beers that every hipster is raging about but they have what you really need, a cold drink and an a friendly ear at descent prices. We had a lot of people in our group and they set us up in the patio with a small fire pit. If you want a dive bar, this qualifies. If you don't want to eat at that dive bar, then this place really qualifies. If you want to drink and smoke on the caged in back patio, you may think I have rated this too harshly. But, I have found the service is hit or miss depending who is working. The diviest of dives. This bar is located at a five point stop intersection (hence the name) but it is within walking distance from our house too. We decided that on a random Sunday night, we would hit it up because we were looking for a little adventure. Armed with fake names and a fist full of cash, we entered the bar and saw a very mixed age range of patrons and a lady selling...tamales? I did not ask, but I only assume. I was pleasantly surprised to see the NFL Network airing the Charger pre-season game (and this was one that was blacked out for airing during game time) and the jukebox was pretty amazing (White Zombie then some dance stuff was played). There are a few pool tables and the patrons seem to want to play seriously. We saw a lot of people with their own cues. The drinks are very well priced and there is a lot to do here, so it is pretty cool. The patrons were pretty chill, but if you are looking to find a date for the night, steer clear of here. We were definitely among the grizzly regulars. But I did not find this place scary at all. If you want a quick drink and want to be among a crowd, this place is not that bad. read more

This place is one of those nice classic bars and it seems like this little bar really pulls in a nice crowd of people when the nightlife kicks up in Escondido. This place is set with a jukebox, little television bar games where you play some silly games, a television to play some kind of lottery game on, darts and three pool tables in the back for all the people to keep entertained. This is one of my friends favorite Escondido spots so we hit this location on a bar crawl one night. It was a good thing this was the third place on our list because I might have shoved her into the street had I been sober. We moved to the area 2 days ago...and we have been to this bar both nights! This place is awesome to come and have a cheap stiff drink and chill. When you walk in it looks like a lodge. All wood interior, wood bar, old school bar stools. Towards the back of the bar there are pool tables and some other bar games. A little further back is an outside patio area where you can smoke AND take your drink. First night we came we had 5 mixed drinks for $20 bucks....Second night our group had around 6 beers and 4 or 5 mixed drinks and the tab was around $50. If you are looking for a fancy dance club, this place is defiantly not it. But if you want to grab a drink or 2 and have some friendly conversation....this is your place! read more

Service is OK but if you play pool you get all the smoke from the designated smoking area because they smoke at the door that opens into the bar pool table area. If they smoke a cigar in the smoking area you smell it in the entire bar. They should make the smokers be in the outside area where the picnic tables are and there is no roof there. read more

My girlfriend and I came here to have some drinks and catch up. We were a little hesitant to go here due to the reputation but we decided to risk it. I was very pleased to see that the place wasn't packed with "undesirables". As soon as we sat at the bar we were greeted by the bartender who was very friendly. We ordered a pitcher of Pizza Port's Chronic and it was a at a great price. There was a couple of pool tables in there as well but others were already enjoying them. I seriously don't know how this place has so many great reviews. Unless you're a regular here or know someone who is a regular...good luck getting a friendly smile from anyone. My friend moved in across the street and we were excited that we'd be walking distance of a bar. Good thing Sunset is walking distance too, because if it were up to me, I'd never come back to this place. A group of like 6 of us walked in and our ID's had to be checked but there person checking them was more concerned on keeping his conversation with a patron at the bar because he spent like 3 minutes per person, mostly holding the ID and talking to his buddy instead of actually checking it. We headed to the back "outside" area that doubles as a smoke room. We ran into a friend and one of our guys was shootin' the shit with the friend we ran into and started talking about a ball game that happened. Apparently discussing 2 different opinions of a situation doesn't fly with this place because we were told that if we were going to be "arguing" that we'd need to take it outside. 1. Aren't we outside already? 2. We weren't arguing. We moved inside because we obviously weren't welcomed in that area. We picked a corner of the bar to order our drinks and a couple of us sat down for like 20 minutes. Some older woman walks in at about the 20 minute mark of us hanging out and asks my friend to move out of her chair because she was sitting there and/or her seat was being saved. Whatever. So we move over to the darts, and before we even have the chance to breathe, someone approaches us telling us if league pool night and that the corner by the darts and the chairs and the benches, and whatever else that can possible be claimed is theirs. Um what? Okayyyy lady. We ask how often league night is, and it turns out it's Mon-Sun. Awesome. We start to play darts and accidentally bump into someone and some other person tells us that that's why they told us about everything being claimed, because it gets crowded and people bump into each other. Dude, bump into each other, no big deal just apologize when you do it. Obviously it's not on purpose. The thing that put me over was towards the end of the night, some guys were moving tables through the darts area and I was throwing. These guys not only proceed to bump into me, but they didn't say excuse me OR sorry. Even after calling them out on it. Nope, not cool with that. Saving grace was the cool bartender and cheap drinks, but I will never willingly go back. read more

I've been here twice and have to admit....the first moment I walked in on my first visit things could have swung either way because this truly is the epitomy of diviest of divey bars. It was Sunday pool tourney night.. The bartender kept the cold beers coming and the crowd was welcoming and fun. The ambience is pool bar cool and the north county clientele though mainly pool players on Sunday nights kept the juke box going all night. Closed the place down and was back for more a week later. Def. recommend for the pool, the crowd, and the Sunday night bartender who also works at the Brigantine. My new fave place to hang in Escondido! read more
