Wrote the following review and update on 3/3/2026 and have yet to receive a reply to my update. This practice is all about the $$, not the patient: Very frustrating. I was a patient up until 1/5/2026. My provider wrote a prescription for a glucose monitor that same day and sent to CVS. CVS came back and said they needed a prior authorization. Five Journeys won't write the prior auth because I am no longer a patient even though the prescription was written when I was a patient. I told the office that the plan was for me to be a patient again in March but since they are holding my prior auth hostage I will not come back now. When I told that to the person I spoke with at the office she did not care and just said "OK". Do not recommend this practice. ****Update: my response to the office's reply: concerning your statement "When a patient is no longer under our care, there are strict legal and regulatory guidelines that limit what we are able to do on their behalf. Prior authorizations are considered an active part of ongoing medical management, and once a patient relationship has formally ended, most medical practices are not permitted to initiate or complete new authorizations" ...please point me to the documents that show the regulatory guidelines you say limit your ability. It was not made clear to me during the discovery call that the $129 a month was solely for membership. Basically, you get the the privilege of booking appointments. The 1 hr initial visit is not *included* with membership, nor are the 30 minute follow up visits. Your insurance will be billed for every appointment, and you will pay whatever copay you owe beyond that, in addition to the $129 month (or more!). If you look at the screenshot attached, it does seem like these appointments are included. On the concierge medicine page, it, again, makes it sound like certain visits are included with membership: "The cost of concierge medicine in Boston can vary, but at Five Journeys, we offer transparent pricing and flexible plans to suit your needs. A standard package at Five Journeys begins at $129 per month. This package includes a 1-hour initial visit, 30-minute follow-up appointments, a 25% discount on wellness services, and a free musculoskeletal health assessment." If you scroll further down the membership website page, you will see: "Most insurances are accepted for appointment fees, or members may self-pay. Please note that Medicaid and MassHealth are not accepted." It still doesn't specifically say that ALL appointments have your regular copay, on top of the monthly membership fee. It really needs to be stressed that the membership doesn't include the cost of any actual medical care. It is all fee-per-visit, just like any other practice. This was not stressed in my discovery call, or I would have said, "Oops. This isn't for me." I naively thought that they made up their money on supplements, add-on wellness services, testing, and all the months that you didn't see your functional medicine doctor. How often would you go in? 3 or 4 times a year? They are getting that $129 a month regardless of whether or not you're ever there. Labs are not discounted. You can get most of the lab draws cheaper through walkinlabs.co, particularly in combined form. (i.e. B12 and folate together, instead of separate test codes.) The 87 item food antibody test and the stool test are also available from walkinlab.com. If you are at the point where you haven't hit your deductible and have to pay out of pocket, there is no advantage to not going with walk-in lab and just bringing the results to your primary doc if there is anything concerning. I should also mention that the initial labs suggested to me as a new patient ran about $3000. Out of pocket, as I haven't hit my deductible yet. Again, you can find most of the labs cheaper. But it was still going to be about $2000. I didn't find the dietitian services all that helpful. I was looking for more menu planning and macros. It felt more like a therapy session and I already have a therapist. I liked my NP, during the one appointment we had. But I just can't see that the added cost is going to bring me enough benefit to justify continuing. read more

I absolutely love my doctor, Dr. Bernice Wong, who deserves 5 stars at least! She is truly a brilliant integrative medical doctor, is full of integrity and has a heart! But the medical directors of Five Journeys, Dr. Trubow and Dr. Levitan ( who set policy) seem to lack that sense of "patient-centered care" I was sworn to as a healthcare provider long ago. They ignored my heads up and calls for help when their partner they refer patients to - BILH - Beth Israel Lahey Health refused to give me the ovarian cancer ultrasound test ordered by Five Journeys - bc BILH now forces patients to sign off on "all tests & treatments" for oneself "and all (your)...dependents" (i.e., your kids), or you will be refused your service in need - cancer or not! That's not medical care, that's medical coercion, extortion and neglect. Yet that's apparently ok with Drs. Trubow and Levitan. And if anyone find this hard to believe (as I did too) I urge you to call BILH, and ask to see a copy of their new patient consent form. Or call the President's office and ask why we can no longer sign off on the treatment or test at hand. And ask Dr. Trubow or Dr. Levitan why they choose loyalty to BILH over the medical needs of their patients (even after they knew about BILH's coercive demands.) If only Dr. Trubow or Dr. Levitan had responded to any one of my many attempts to get their help for me and all their other patients who go into BILH unknowingly - this review would not have been necessary. But my sense of my civic duty and medical fairness comes first. And sadly, I know this will mean I will no longer be allowed in to see the true integrative/functional medicine doctor there who I really like and respect. And that is the sacrifice I have had to make to warn my fellow patients. read more

Dr. Wong is fine, but she did forget a bunch of labs so there were many missing to compare if the excessive amount of supplements are even doing anything. The monthly billing is supposed to be $129 per month and I was being billed $249 since they didn't take a good copy of my insurance- to date, I am still owed $240 from Jan and Feb of 2024 - the billing dept is horrific and the support staff is terrible about getting back to you. It can take up to 5 days for them to return a call or give you the information requested. I agree with all of the negative comments. I'l be cancelling my membership- so not worth it! I'll be making sure I cancel my payment method before cancelling based on the reviews how they keep billing you months after you quit- based on my experience I have no doubt that is true!! read more

Finally, concierge medicine that takes insurance. A small group practice where they think outside the lines and practice a particularly friendly version of functional medicine. I've met some of the best nurses I've ever interacted with here. And they were able to give me a diagnosis after a year of being gaslit by my regular PCP by running more sophisticated tests and thinking holistically. I wish they had a few more doctors but they have the most competent support staff I've ever seen in a private medical facility. So responsive and on the ball. I started seeing Dr. Levitan in July, 2024. I am a healthcare provider and very fussy about who I see for my health goals. I am not fond of western medical doctors for the most part, and have always sought out Functional Medicine providers, because I prefer a root cause approach. I do not like western drugs. I found Dr. Levitan to be really sharp (I also practice FM), and he was very helpful in his recommendations for testing and nutrition. We are on the "same page". His staff has also been very helpful in intervening with a billing issue with my insurance plan--I haven't really had anyone ever offer to do that before. I took a break but will be starting up with him again. He's down to earth, straight forward, and easy to talk to. I felt that he really listened to me. I highly recommend him. read more

Went for an evaluation and thought they would help but realized there were no improvements/benefits. All they do is charge you for every single thing. You want consultation, it's $250 for 5-15 minutes. They make you do tests and charge you for the kits as well as charging another fee to do the test. All this after you already paid for the month membership which cost around $500. Avoid at all cost! It's like a pyramid scam. Wish I could give them zero star. read more

The medical care seemed fine, but the office and billing need a lot of improvement. For my first visit, I sat for at least 15 minutes waiting for my physician. My physician finally came looking for me. They were never told that I was in the waiting area. At least one of the office staff never wore their mask properly (at least whenever I was there), even though everyone was required to wear a mask. I'm so grateful to have found this place. After years of being dismissed by doctors for the various chronic symptoms I experience, hearing Dr. Marianela suggest that I may have an underlying chronic condition, and hearing Dr. Levitan confirm with test results that I do have a recognizable and treatable condition, was in itself a healing experience. Having a medical professional tell me that I am in fact not just making this up, and proving it with real science, was a life changing experience. And moreover they convinced me to visit extra specialist which "will be free for me and make session to visit since I pay for my membership anyways". Dr Levitan is a terrible doctor. He upcharges for exams and xrays without ever touching or examining the patient. He was a scam doctor at Visions and then worked temp at Urgent care in Needham. I have been seeing Dr Levitan for several years. My life had been defined for better health over six decades but I was searching for a functional doctor and did I strike gold. He follows a protocol for a healthier and happier life. Using a metal detox as my foundation has brought me to another level at 64. I see him at times unlimited to keep on top of my bloodwork and the necessary anti aging supplements. He is passionate beyond belief and so sincere. I would not recommend this place at all. I have worked with a number of functional practitioners and something is off about this place. I went in to see Dr. Trubow for a skin condition and the first questions she started to ask me were all related to gynecology, which is NOT the reason for me coming in and I have a separate doctor for that (honestly felt like it was crossing the line when she told me to get an IUD without speaking to me for more than 5 minutes). She recommended I do a few tests to see about toxins in my body for my skin condition and I asked her about the cost (which I knew would be out of pocket). She told me the prices for tests and then proceeded to tell me she doesn't like financial surprises and that this would be the total cost. When I went to go check out and pay for my tests, the office tagged on all these additional costs (test kit costs + costs for supplements NEEDED to take the tests) - something that was NOT told me to me when I asked about prices and ironic since the doctor had JUST told me she did not like financial surprises. I bought a couple tests, which included a refrigerated supplement. A couple weeks later, I decided not to do the tests and that this practice wasn't for me so I called the office to see if I could return them. They said everything unopened could be returned so I brought all the items in (kit + refrigerated supplement). When the office did the return, I was told the kits were processed separately from the supplement and I would be refunded separately for both. After a couple weeks of no refund for the supplement, I called the office to check on where the refund was and they said they told me they couldn't return anything refrigerated (which never happened). Honestly shocked by this place and won't be going back or recommending it - they clearly care way more about profit (they also charge a monthly membership) and are sneaky with all these added costs. read more

If you have dealt with a chronic or persistent illness, you likely know the difficulties of getting proper care or treatment. Feeling confident and comfortable are not familiar feelings. When I first walked into Five Journeys, I did feel immediately comfortable and knew, after seeing nearly a dozen other doctors, that I had finally found the right place and there was hope that I would get better. I believe that when traditional medicine is combined with functional medicine, the result is better quality care for patients. That's what you get at Five Journeys. The staff are wonderful people who are invested in you getting better, and the doctors are extremely knowledgeable and understanding. I personally have seen Dr. Levitan; I came to Five Journeys after feeling ill for 12 months, and thanks to the work they do here I continue to get better. Dr. Levitan is on the cutting edge of medicine and the man truly knows what he is doing. Five Journeys is not for everyone. If you are unwilling to invest in improving your health, well-being and overall life, and unwilling to make some necessary changes, find somewhere else. If you are willing and open-minded, I believe you'll grow to love this practice as much as I do. read more

Five Journeys gave me my life back! At the age of 30, as a regular "health nut", I found myself plagued with exhaustion and lethargy, so I sought out Dr. Levitan's help. Hi. The owner of this place used to own Visions Healthcare in Wellesley and Dedham. I became near death while under care at Visions Anyone else end up in hospital or ICU? If so, feel free to contact me. This is a husband and wife team. The young wife just doesn't use her married name. The owner didn't pay all his employees (including doctors) their last months pay at Visions. He closed Visions on a Friday and opened 5 journeys on Monday. If you are in a the mood to die, go see them. They will charge $700 for a test that determines if u have celiac even if u don't have symptoms of celiac. Go to your regular md, it's probably covered. The owner charge huge "membership " fees to all patients 5 months before he closed Visions. Never returned their money. read more

When my doctor moved out of state I had the unfortuate job finding a doctor I could relate to. I had suffered the effects of Lyme Disease and co-infections as well as a myriad undiagnosed additional issues for many years. When interviewing potential new docs, I was often told they didn't believe in chronic Lyme disease, or that my symptoms were all in my head. After an exhautive search, and getting sicker each month, I was thrilled to find Five Journeys and a doctor and staff who are Lyme literate, caring, and who search for answers to complicated cases like mine. Drs. Levitan and Trubow are thorough, compassionate and truly care about helping their patients get well and stay well. No rock is left unturned as they look for answers. Every question is treated respectfully and portal emails are answered quickly. Patients are made to feel that they are an important part of the team, and that their thoughts or questions about a course of treatment are important. The office staff is friendly, supportive and helpful. Nutritionist Meg is creative in her approach to help patients find healthy and tasty food options. Phlebotomist Andreya is patient, gentle, and caring, and supportive to those who are apprehensive. Appointments are easy to get, and in a timely manner. Dr Trubow is the best! No problem is too big or too small for her to discuss in detail and tackle with a more balanced, natural approach than your "run of the mill" MD. I have a group of friends who all travel an hour regularly to see her. She has done so much for me in the past year. Dr. Levitan (my doctor, functional medicine) and Ms. Gerber (my functional medicine nutritionist) as well as Gail, Darenda and Andrea (who do everything else) are all spectacular. As you will better understand after reading more below, it turned out that several things were causing me issues that my PCP knew could be helped with functional medicine, so he referred me to Five Journeys. Dr. Levitan was able to get to the bottom of my issues that all need to be addressed to bring me back to optimal health. Convoluted/complicated/mutli-cause diagnoses are something they are quite adept in, understanding the need for specialized tests that are out of the normal realm of main stream medicine, as well as understanding and successfully treating many patients with many multiple and seemingly subtle or "normal" problems that are actually early signs and that can be addressed to bring a person back to optimal health. As we age, we are brainwashed into thinking that our doctors will prescribe drugs to help us "manage" a problem like diabetes, insomnia, or high blood pressure. Five Journeys approach is to apply science-based medical knowledge of diet, nutrition, toxic exposure, stress, and more, to find and fix issues that get in the way of optimal health. They do not just "manage" conditions. 10 years ago I moved from main stream medicine to a concierge practice (before coming to Five Journeys) and was very happy with that change. I was motivated to change by an egregious misdiagnosis by my mainstream medicine PCP (and the other doctors in her practice). Concierge doctors spend more time with you and are able to find and treat problems as well as head them off. Main stream practices employ a business model geared to hit the 6 patients/hour visit rate to maintain profitability. My concierge doctor encouraged me to learn a lot about health and diet to reverse my prediabetes. In doing so I found books like "Fat for Fuel", "Wheat Belly", "The End of Alzheimer's", and articles and videos by Dr. Rhonda Patrick, Dr. Mercola, and others that base their recommendations on scientific and clinical trial evidence. My concierge doctor is "part functional medicine" and part main stream, and he already knew about all these studies and solutions and supported all of the recommendations I was learning about and we even worked together to implement many (e.g. a high fat, low carb diet, avoid foods with hormones, GMO's, pesticides, etc., optimize gut biome). But when I was finding that my cognitive abilities were slightly declining and my insomnia was worsening, and the things he tested for provided no clues, I decided I wanted to more closely follow the recommendations of Dr. Dale Bredesen who wrote "The End of Alzheimer's". My concierge doctor preferred to refer me to someone who to was better educated and experienced in this sort of multifaceted, sophisticated testing and treatment approach. I found Dr. Levitan on the Bredesen web site as having been certified in the Bredesen protocol that has been shown to reverse Alzheimer's. I have been a patient of Dr. Levitan for 6 months and we have found that I have four of the possible 20+ factors that Bredesen's protocol looks to fix. We are treating those with evidence based methods that are nearly all derived from natural substances. However, when a pharmaceutical drug is truly the only evidence-backed solution, Dr. Levitan will include it in your treatment. Dr. Levitan also found some food sensitivities and I have really noticed a change in how I feel after I started my new diet (gluten free and minimize a few specific fruits and vegetables, eggs and dairy - at least for now. We will retest again after the cognition factors treatments.) I feel so relieved to have found a trained and experienced medical doctor who views the body as a biologic system with many interconnected reactions, and, as well as all the scientific studies and evidence allow, understands them, the causes of issues and how to fix problems. FYI: My Blue Cross Blue Shield covers all doctor visits and nutritionist visits. The specialized tests are often not covered, but are worth the cost, and they are not as much as you might think. Once my health is optimal, I won't need much to keep me going, certainly not more tests, and even better, not all the drugs other people my age are taking to "manage" all their conditions. read more
