Side note, while some competitors give you a dab of queso, Taco Mama doesn't skimp. I've eating here several times before posting, and it's consistent. Since Popeyes threw down the gauntlet in Aug 2019 with the introduction of their now famous chicken sandwich, all the national and regional chains now offer their version, as do many local restaurants - check out the BYO at Bad Daddy's, the hot chicken at Bossy Beulah's, the fried chicken at Alex's in Lewisville, and there are even more! I know Chick-fil-A is still very popular, the drive-thru lines attest to that, but CFA has slipped in the national popularity area, usually listed as definitely behind Popeye's & KFC, and being pressured by Raisin' Caine's and perhaps others. It's not bad by fast food standards but it's never really wowed me, and every place I've been to has always been a super long wait. Unfortunately this one wasn't much better and once again I was waiting a reaaallly long time for my "fast" food. It was a little busy when I got there on a weekday evening, but even considering I was still waiting an awkwardly long time. The manager there seemed to be keeping a good handle on things at least and was professional and polite, so kudos for that. It comes with a ton of jalapeno & smoked applewood bacon, monterey jack cheese, homemade bacon mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onion slices and 2 strips of sandwich pickles. It comes with a classic side and I opted for the fries. The fries were a little over cooked and greasy but still nice and soft like I prefer. Next time I may upgrade for a salad instead of the fries. The number of locals spots that rival the offerings here is very small. I ordered each of my favorite items here - Bacon Cheeseburger and the Crispy, Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich. The time in line here are generally a bit longer than the larger chains, but still around 10 minutes. The burger was excellent and well sized as alway, these folks just know how to make a great burger. And the crispy, spicy chicken sandwich is as good as anyone's, including the cult one at Popeyes! Only the BYO at Bad Daddy's is possibly a bit better, and definitely is bigger! I have found the food at Cook Out locations to be consistently excellent with very few bad experiences. This is a good chicken sandwich, but it is not in the class of KFC, or even Popeye's or Culver's - closer to McDonald's or Burger King. The chicken is nicely breaded, well fried. But the rest of the sandwich - sauce, bun, and pickle are average or less. I would rate this sandwich in the middle of the pack of national fast food chains.
