Five guys fries. Every fry was in bits.
    T H.

What's going on with all these restaurants gradually going downhill? This used to be the most amazing place for burgers and fries, but the last three times we have went, the food has been horrible! Brown lettuce, wilted tomatoes, soggy buns, fries all in little tiny bits! Dang Five Guys, what the heck??

Burger, fries and Coke; $12.00. I asked for fries well-done, they were NOT!

I haven't been in a Five Guys for about 8 or 9 months. Today I had half-a-craving for them; here we go... I fell in love with Five Guys when I was living in Florida around 2009. I wrote them great reviews and ate there WAY TOO MUCH!!! (2 or 3 times per week!) I've had some bad experiences at Five Guys, especially here in the Michiana area, so quite bluntly, I just lost my appetite for them. Tonight I went to the Eddy Street, Notre Dame location. I ordered the double burger with a medium fries, well-done (as in crispy), no-salt. The store was very busy, but they also had about 10 employees behind the counter. My number was called after about 15 minutes and I tore the bag open to make my ad-hoc place-mat for my food. Right away I could tell the fries were not well-done!!!! DAMN THEM! The fries were mostly pasty-white, mushy and not golden-brown crispy. DAMN THEM! I went back to the counter and very calmly and quietly asked why my fries weren't WELL-DONE and the manager said "Oh, we will RE-MAKE those for you right away!" I went back to my table and started eating my burger. It was fine, but not the epicurean delight and sensory bacchanal I seemed to remember from times past. It also was just sorta warm, certainly the burger I GOT was NOT HOT in any SPOT! I nibbled at the mushy-white fries and it only pissed me off. I expect MORE from a place that charges $12.00 for a burger, fries and a Coke!!! After 10 minutes someone hollered that my fries were ready. I walked over and got them, they were finally made correctly! So, Five Guys HAS THE ABILITY to make fries well-done; WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE JUST DONE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE?...before half my burger was gone??? Somebody reading this is going to think this all sounds petty or nit-picky; BUT Five Guys sells itself as THE BEST OF THE BEST in burger joints, and they charge the high prices to go along with that image! I expect MORE from Five Guys! I can get crappy service for a much lower price at Burger King or Wendy's!

    What I actually ordered

"Issues with our phone reception"??? There were no issues with your phone - I could hear crystal clear and I was heard clearly as well. Your "manager" that evening expressed zero empathy and passively accused me of trying to scam my money back. I would have contacted you privately except your "manager" relayed a bogus name and contact email for the owner of your location. Additionally, I was contacted by you over a month after my horrible experience - nice effort, but you should have contact me the same week this happened. I'm not interesting in your sub par offer to "make this up" to me. I won't be eating there again.

Great juicy burgers and amazing fries at a great value! Five Guys is the standard I set for any burger or fries I eat elsewhere. Little versions of the burgers mean 1 patty, while the non-little version means 2 patties. For me, the little version is plenty to fill me up. All the burger toppings are free and delicious! I usually get everything ("all the way"). Little bacon cheeseburger all the way: T his was juicy and delicious, and all the toppings added a nice blend of flavors and textures. However, the bacon wasn't that good. I'm not sure if there wasn't enough bacon or if it just wasn't cooked that well, but it felt like there wasn't much bacon on the burger. Next time, I would just order a bacon-less burger. However, the burger was delicious overall. Little regular fries: The little fries is actually a lot. Five Guys make my favorite fries -- thick-cut fries that are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fries come in a cup, and there are always extra scattered around the brown bag. Little Cajun style fries: Get these if you want some more spices & seasonings on top of your regular fries. I got these freshly made, and they were delicious! The seasonings added more dimensions to the fries compared to the normal fries. They were a little bit too seasoned for me, so I would ask for slightly less seasoning next time. But overall, they were fresh, hot, and delicious! The staff is friendly and quick with your order. The place is clean, with lots of wooden tables for seating. There's also tables and umbrellas outside for additional seating. This store also has fancy Coke machines. The food here is delicious and reasonably priced. I will definitely be back for more!

I really like the hamburger of Five Guys. They have the soft tasty wheat bread and the best meat in town! I love the fries as well. Moreover, the milkshake is also quite tasty. This place is very close to Notre Dame campus, so it is very convenient for me to come over and have a quick lunch.

I guess in South Bend Mustard is the word for Ketchup! Blech!

So our lunch location was quickly chosen and we went in. Immediately, I was surrounded by vintage Americana memorabilia, reminiscent of a Route 66 diner, in a VERY large space. The shock of the decor was intense yet very exciting! So if you are unaware, this location is one of 107 Portillo's around the US and is a fast-casual hot dog restaurant chain based founded in 1963 out of Chicago. This location opened in 2018 and is one of 6 locations in Indiana. The food is like Five Guys if it specialized in hot dogs instead of burgers and if it went for a maximalist decor concept instead. For lunch, my bf and I ordered: 2 Chicago dogs $3.99 each, 1 Char'diniera dog $4.99 (a pepper and cheese stuffed hot dog), 1 side salad $5.89, and 1 order of onion rings $3.89. The prices are not too bad in my opinion! It took about 5ish minutes for our order to be ready. I thought the meat and bun were of quality and the salad was generous with cheese. My bf loved the limited-time-only Char'diniera hot dog and thought it was one of the best fast food hot dogs he had ever had! High praise indeed haha! Personally, I've had better Chicago style dogs but enjoyed Portillo's version very much. Neither of us had the calorie budget for one of their cake milkshakes - where they put AN ENTIRE SLICE OF CAKE INTO A MILKSHAKE. And yes, it is an incredibly gluttonous 1500 calories. RIP to whomever gets one of these more than once! Overall, I had a good time and a pleasant experience and I will definitely have Portillo's again.

What I love about Portillo's is they have staff out there taking orders and processing payments to expedite the process. It can get busy during lunchtime but they do a great job of speeding people along. I ordered jumbo Chicago dog and an order of cheese fries. The fries were exactly how I remembered them. Crinkle cut with that slightly salted crunch on the outside and soft center. The regular size is enough for two people to share I can only imagine how large the large fries are. Add a cup of cheese sauce for dipping and these were probably my favorite fries I've had all year. Portillo's is still is my favorite place to get a Chicago hot dog!

My story: When I was visiting Vancouver, Canada, there was a street vendor who served "Japanese hot dogs". They were quite scrumptious, and I was jealous that the city residents could have these fancy dogs anytime they pleased. I am jelly no more. While touring the Wellfield Botanical Gardens during their special "Tulips and Tunes" festival, the Wiener Shack made their presence known. I stopped by their booth to grab a drink (a bottle of Boylan birch beer), and decided to return. Upon coming back, I tried the "Vortex". Ahh, the Vortex. What a fantastic adventure of a hot dog. Take a delightfully seasoned hot dog, add Sargento's provolone cheese, grilled onions, a dash of some raspberry something-or-other sauce, and pack it all into... a glazed twist doughnut. I know what you're thinking: WTF. Well, I guarantee you that it was most delicious. Also, the guy and lady who was running the stand were very friendly and helped me with recommendations. And I can't believe that this is right here in Goshen. I WILL be checking out their storefront sometime.

My boyfriend and I were feeling silly in June 2026 and wanted ice cream for brunch so decided to go here after a quick search on Yelp. Inside felt like a mix of Grease, Pleasantville, and the Fallout TV show with tin lunchboxes, pictures of classic cars, and cheeky signs decorating every square inch of the inside. While waiting for our food, we hummed along to the music of the 1950s and 1960s playing on the speakers from the same Sirius XM station my parents listen to. Some artists we heard during our lunch there included The Ronettes, Elvis, The Bobettes, The Crests, and The Temptations! Since we both ordered "baskets," we got our sandwiches with fries and a soda. My boyfriend got the green river phosphate soda and I got a diet root beer. His phosphate was so bright neon green that it definitely stood out! We only waited about 5 minutes for our food but that was still enough time to look around the place and listen to some of the orders being placed by cars over the speakers as well as flip through an early 2000s book on some of the must visit hamburger restaurants in the USA. See attached picture for a screenshot of that list. Now, my grilled pb and banana sandwich was a decent size. Not too big and actually reflecting the portion sized people in the 1950s used to eat! The prices reflected the "small-ish" portions as well as we only paid $7.99 for my basket and his was $10.99. The white toast was heavily buttered and the pb was creamy. I would have preferred crunchy pb for texture reasons. The crinkle fries needed salt but they hit the spot! The food itself wasn't anything special but the vibes were perfect! After eating our real food, we then got our heavily anticipated bowls of sugar upon sugar. My bf's medium tin roof sundae was quite large and indulgent ($4.99). But I definitely went hard in indulging. I treated myself to the classic cars sundae ($5.99) with a scoop of birthday cake and caramel moose tracks with strawberry syrup topping. I laugh cried when it came out, I was so happy! It was sooooo much sugar. The total with cash was about $32 and with credit card, it was $33.34 as there is a 4% fee for using a card. I left 40 bucks in cash for the meal and the tip. Then we left and I immediately died of a sugar rush. The end!
