Five Guys has a tasty burger and fries... Most of the time it is pretty near a perfect burger. Sometimes it is not. Fries are the same damn way. That is ok because sometimes I too am near perfect and then again at other times I am not. I have never thought about it until just now, but me and Five Guys are a lot alike. We both have fluctuations in quality and appearance. Sometimes we are gruff and grumpy, not necessarily easy to deal with on the front end. We both have many toppings available for free. This evening my wife and I visited Five Guys (Store TN-1264), which we have several times in the past. So with that out of the way, know we generally enjoy going to Five Guys. Tonight to however was the worst and most horrible meal experience we've had. This was a direct result of the staff working at the grill and fryer. After placing our order, instantly we noticed the cooking staff clowning around, dancing and singing. With a number of customers waiting for their orders, the staff should've been attending their duties. As the horse play continued, we waited and waited for our orders. It was then the cooking staff noticed I was looking at them clown around. This of course made them continue their vs. meal preparation. When the cook staff observed me watching them, my wife began hearing them make racial comments and jokes about the old white guy starring at them. All while we waited the jokes and clowning continued. Nearly 20 minutes later, the cook staff finally called our number. When we got the food it was of course ice cold, even the fries which are normally hot were cold, hard, and over salted. When the cook staff noticed we appeared unhappy about our meal, the laughter started up anew. My wife was hungrier than I, so we sat together while she dinned. When I looked back at the cook staff, I heard one of them state "Fuck that old cracker". It was then my wife and I left tired of the racism being turned our way. Moreover my wife became scared for our safety. Outside of the horrible service, the restaurant itself was filthy and the floors were slippery with fry grease. In hindsight I should have recorded the cook staff utter disrespect for their customers. Their clowning around certainly would have gone viral on YouTube. It's sad to know Five Guys employs these kind of thuds. It's doubtful we'll be returning to Five Guys anytime soon. We've always had a good experience. Food is a good value much better than fast food and some of the local places in town. I love that they have the option of grilled jalapeños. Trust me they are yummy on a burger if you like some spice in your life. The service is always friendly, prompt and I feel it's a good value for what you get. Once you get to the counter, you have two choices for burgers one patty (little) or two patties and you are given the choice of unlimited toppings. At $11 and change for a cheeseburger (admittedly, two patties), fries and fountain drink, this is a little on the spendy side. My burger with everything sans tomato was good and hit the spot. I thought the fries were OK, and may have been more critical of both if I hadn't entered Five Guys ravenous. (I'm not sure if the snarling I heard was from my mouth or my stomach.) The service was friendly and a little leisurely, although I'm sure my hunger made it seem longer. I've got no real complaints other than the price. Five Guys competes, along with In-N-Out, in that niche between fast food burger joints and sit-down designer burger spots. Do not order from this store. I ordered my family dinner from this location. Upon arrival I went to the counter and asked if my order was ready. They asked for my name and said that my order was already picked up. I said how is that possible because I have my pickup receipt on my phone. The lady in charge told me it has been happening all day and there was nothing they could do about it. I asked for some contact information for the store owner or company complaint line and she said they are not given that information at the store level. I give up. I lived in Virginia and went to Five Guys before they franchised. I've been to a half dozen franchise locations in my travels around the country. This is, by a huge margin, the worst Five Guys I have ever been to anywhere. The burgers are constantly overcooked. The last time I got a bacon burger with bacon that resembled a lump of carbon it had been cooked so long. In my 4 trips to this location something has been wrong with my order every time, how hard is it to read a list of 4-5 toppings and put them on a burger? The biggest puzzler? Twice I've gotten cold fries. I'm not even sure how that happens, at every other Five Guys they come out of the fryer and go right in a bag to be handed out; I've never seem them sit around at all. Somehow this location manages to mess up even fries. On my last trip not only did they mess up two burgers, but after complaining and getting them remade I was given back the correct burgers, but with the wrong stickers on them (they number them so you know which is which). You would think after having to remake them they would put a little extra effort into making sure they were perfect! If this is the only Five Guy's you've been to, don't let the cloud your judgement about other locations. I wish Five Guys Corporate would come to this location and teach them how to do it right. read more

Go short or go long as they say in football but make a durned commitment ! Sober up! Get Straight! You get one star because the place was relatively clean and your staff was pleasant and didn't stare blankly like an army of drooling zombies (don't blame this on them). You get another star because you made my man cub happy but you just got lucky there. The third star is because I am mostly pretty reasonable and you make good fries cooked in good ole Southern peanut oil. Ditch the durned styro-foam cup you serve them in though. Hell, just dump them in the paper bag. Let's talk about them burgers now. I am NOT overweight but I am not a small dude either. Mmmkaaay?! And if I pay $20 bucks for a double burger for me and a single for the boy and an order of fries with two drinks...and I STILL leave your place hungry.. then that makes me kind of grumpy. Capiche'? Your beef patty's are too small and overcooked. What happened? Stingy! Cheap! And your toppings you brag about? There is not enough surface area on your burger to hold them! I love this place! When it comes to fast food, they've got the best burger in Memphis, hands down. I love how much you can customise your burger. For me, it's always grilled onions, lettuce, and barbecue sauce on the cheeseburger. It's the closest thing to In-N-Out we'll ever get around here, though they're certainly not the exact same. It's probably blasphemy to many but I actually prefer Five Guys. ;) The cheeseburger (or burger) has two patties; the little burger has one. You can also get hot dogs if you don't do burgers, or if you don't do meat at all they have grilled cheese and veggie sandwiches (you get to pick as many toppings as you want off the menu, it's not a veggie burger). Their fries are excellent! They're the hand-cut, boardwalk-style that never disappoint. The portion sizes are insane though. If it's just you and someone else just get the regular fries. The large fries are huge, and unless you're with several people there's no way you'd finish them. The noise can be a little loud (though that's mostly just luck of the draw if there happens to be noisy people there when you go). When orders are ready they call out your number but honestly? Once I have my food I'm able to tune it out, and I'm the type that hates loud noise. They don't have any Wi-Fi but with a McDonald's next door, if you get a table by the window facing them you might just luck out and get a (very weak) signal if you want to check your emails or something. read more

At my last visit, the bun seemed more like a McD's bun and though I ordered it all the way, many of the toppings that should've been on it were not there. Drink machines were out of ice and out of a number of options. This was before the dinner rush too. Prices are just a bit too high and keep in going up (all those newspaper articles they put up serve as testament to the days when everything was $1-2 cheaper). One last thing I've noticed every time I eat here is that it's fairly dirty. There's a lot of stuff on the floors and it doesn't seem like the staff care too much. I don't really get the Five Guys hype. I've been here maybe 4 times, and each time is just... okay. The burgers aren't bad, but they're by no means amazing. The fries are the same, really. I always get my burgers plain. Literally. Meat and bread. I have a very strict philosophy: If a burger is TRULY good, it will be flavorful even if plain. However, the burgers are kind of bland here, so it's hard for me to really enjoy them. The fries are another thing. Portion sizes here are ridiculous. The regular size of fries can feed 2 VERY hungry people or 3 kinda hungry people. The large fed my family (5 people), with some left over. My biggest complaint about this place? THEY HAVE NO RANCH. Seriously?! Ranch is quickly becoming the new ketchup, and you don't carry it? Come on, Five Guys, step your game up! If all of that is too much to read, I'll condense it for ya: Mediocre food, okay prices, NO RANCH, and pretty good service. I'll go if someone drags me, but I won't go out of my way for Five Guys.
