Which is highly welcomed. Did not fall asleep at the wheel on the way back. Whew. We ordered a classic beef pho, stuffed chicken wings (weird) and a vermicelli dish with beef and spring rolls. I'm very disappointed to have to drop my rating by 2 stars but the single server was thrashing at lunch time among not that many customers and when he finally came by my table, I politely told him I dint need the menu, and he sticks his hand towards my face in a stop motion and rudely says hold on. I typically like their food, the atmosphere is nothing special one way or the other, but when you can't even demonstrate decent manners to customers when yiur not even that busy, you're screaming to me we don't need your business. So, I left, dropped my rating two stars and dined elsewhere. I'll keep two stars vs one even though they deserved one star today, because I know they're capable of so much more than that from a service perspective. Tiny portions and terrible customer service. We decided to order from this spot due to it's high ratings on Google. We've tried many Vietnamese restaurants in the Delta/Surrey area and this is by the far the worst one we've tried. The chicken vermicelli bowl came with 4 small pieces of chicken breast which was very dry. The beef pho came with just a few slices of beef flank. There is plenty of free parking on the streets near this restaurant. It is a family run restaurant and service was fair. We shared spring rolls to start and they were okay. There were many reviews about the peanut pho so we decided to share a bowl of the pho and also a dish of rice with lemon grass chicken, grilled pork chop, fried egg and rice. The spring rolls were okay - I found them somewhat bland even with the dipping sauce. The pho was very good - not as exceptional as some of the previous reviews have indicated but good. The rice dish was very disappointing. The piece of chicken was extremely small. There was at most maybe 2 oz. of meat. The pork chops were very thin. I didn't think you could get pork chops that thin. They were about ¼" thick and therefore were overcooked. The egg was also overcooked and very hard. Neither the chicken or pork chops had much flavour. Overall the only dish that was good was the peanut pho so it for us it is not worth a return visit. read more

The shrimp salad rolls had abit too much bun (noodles) but otherwise very tasty & the fish sauce was very "light" flavored. Very fresh product! I must say this place was a disappointment to us after a long day of travel. They say that their broth for their pho is simmered for 12 hours but, it was the most flavorless broth I've ever had. And the salad rolls were just lettuce, noodles and shrimp, no cilantro or basil, just bland and no flavor at all. I would not return here ever. read more

I came here for the first time and it was an amazing experience! The people are super nice, and it's a family owned restaurant. The place is clean and fresh. But the best thing is the food!!! OMG!!!!I have had many bowls of phõ but this was out of this world! They gave us a side of onions, which were pickled and spicy but yet sweet, to go with the soup and it made a great dish unforgettable!!! I also ordered the pork chop in lemon grass with coconut rice and I could have had seconds (if my stomach had room). Amazing -- and not to mention the price point! The Vietnamese family run business is my favourite pho place anywhere in White Rock and South Surrey. Authentic cooking and flavours without MSG and other unnatural ingredients. This is a fly by night restaurant. Nothing is really fresh. 1.) I ordered a chicken curry what I got was potato and carrot curry with rice, the added spice felt like preserved hot pepper maybe siracha? I like spicy food but this ain't fresh heat. There was almost no sauce btw. 2.) Next was the basic Pho, Ordered it with rare beef and beef balls. Firstly the beef was fully 100% cooked before it got to my table not rare. They say broth simmered for 12hrs, Sure with pho cubes from super88 market and added MSG. Also what chef would serve half of a wedge of lime? Not freshly cut either was dried out from like yesterday edges of lime going brown. 3.) banh mi with lemon grass pork. Bread was fine nothing special tho. The pork was sliced the same way as my rare beef super thin then thrown on cooking stove untill the 2 slices were as black as my chopsticks. Good amount of carrot and cucumber but not enough radish in fact I didn't see any. No fresh Jalapeno but hot peppers from a jar, same ones u get at subway. Gross. Honestly this isn't a pho you'd expect the citizens of Ambleside to eat. It's at best East van 24hr Pho Train. We were so excited to check this place it! Great reviews, people loved the food... Yelp rarely let's me down! We were totally not impressed. The restaurant was not overly busy and it took a very long time for food to come out. That's the beauty of pho, it's relatively fast. In this instance we had to wait 20 minutes for soup which was unfortunate. When it did come out it was clear that the meat had been in the bowl for a while add it as all cooked through and the broth was just slightly over tepid. We asked for some chilli oil and it took him about 5 more minutes to bring over a small dish for my friend and I to share (?)... then on top of that the broth flavour was a but underwhelming. Did we just come on an off day? I certainly hope so. I'll give them anther chance next time I'm in the area but if I didn't live in the area I would end this chapter super unimpressed. read more

Here's the thing, I dig on pho. And I'm accustomed to pho with MSG and pho restaurants that just aren't that clean. Call it ambiance. I love Thai Son in Richmond way back when I used to live out there. At Five Corners, the pho has no MSG. The place is clean and really...quite quiet. So you have to understand, when I walked in with the family, I was thinking this isn't going to be good. I'm a big boy. I can admit when I'm wrong. And I was wrong. The broth isn't a traditional pho broth but for a soup that's lacking in MSG, it was still good. I did add the basil leaves and lime and that did make a big difference. We also ordered a vermicelli bowl, a chicken and pork with egg on rice and some spring rolls. Spring rolls were on the small side but really tasty. Chicken was great, pork was a bit dry but everything was well done. While the food was good to excellent in some areas, the best part was the service. I told my wife I'd come back just to see the friendly owners. And this is at a vietnamese restaurant! I'll get their names next time but the guy who was helping us was super apologetic because I think he thought we were being neglected or that the wait was long. It wasn't. I had the opportunity to dine in White Rock the other night. Random, I know, but sometimes a guy has to stretch his food boundaries to find those hidden gems. The 5 Corners Bistro is one of them. Me and Matt (my brother) arrived at the quaint room around 7, and there was a few tables there. The room is nice, looks very clean and inviting. A stage has been recently erected so I imagine this will lead to live music in the future. The owner showed us to our table and chatted with us for a while. He's really into this restaurant and he's made it a true family affair; 4 of his children work at the restaurant including his son who served us. I imagine this was the server's first serving job, as he seemed a little timid. He was very polite and looked after all of our needs, but he wasn't as engaging at the table as I would have liked. I like to be sold on menu items, but in all fairness, it's not like me or Matt asked many questions. First course, I had a goat cheese terrine that had a side salad of mescal greens with candied pecans and was garnished with radish. The terrine was superb, served at the right temperature. Flavourful and delicate, a great way to start the dish. The salad is a little pedestrian, i'm seeing these salads too often these days. But, as a side salad, it served its purpose and didn't detract from the dish. Matt had a French Onion Soup. Now I thought I was totally over this cliched soup, but the young (really young at 21) chef really restored my confidence that comfort food can be done with a nice artistic flair. Instead of the typical onion confit with beef bone stock topped with a crouton and cheese, this french onion was closer to a foam; the french influences were clear. The tastes were sweet and savoury, capturing the essence of the dish while taking it somewhere unfamiliar. After our appetizers, we were treated to sorbet as a cleanser, a strawberry delight that was made in house. Very fresh and clean, a perfect treat mid meal. For dinner, I had the rack of lamb. I love lamb, so I'm bit of a snob about it. I ordered it rare and it came out cooked perfectly. The gremolata was a nice touch, added texture and protected the tender flesh during cooking. I would have liked a little goat cheese in the crust as well though, but that's just me. It was served with decadent gratin potatoes that were creamy and stellar. I was really happy with it. Side vegetables were cooked el dente and the shredded beets were a nice touch. Matt had a caesar salad with chicken. I know, trust me. I tried to get him to try something outside his comfort zone, but he's kind of a food pussy. Anyways, it was presented in an interesting way that I hadn't seen before. The dressing was creamy and you could taste the anchovy, which I love. The chicken was tender and well seasoned. For dessert, I had the vanilla poached pear. It was superb. The flavours were delicate and there was a nice sugar crust on the pear which retained the majority of its rigidity. Served with a cannelle of vanilla ice cream and I was loving it. Matt had the chocolate hazelnut bread pudding. Again, very well done. Good texture, the flavours weren't over powering, but complementing each other. The owner made sure he said good-bye as well, a nice friendly atmosphere is pretty evident in the room. Overall, I was quite happy with it and would love to go back and try a tasting menu. The house special peanut beef pho was perfection. The broth was pure decadence and the beef was melt in your mouth yumminess. Monday Date night, My date and I attended for the first time Five Corners Pho, both of of us avid Pho lovers. We ordered one vermicelli beef noodle soup, salad roll, spring roll. The broth was superb and the service was impeccable. This is the only Pho place we have been to that provided both high quality service and food. My date happen to be feeling under the weather and our server recommended a specific Pho dish that would help her feel better. This is a excellent family run Pho restaurant. Good home cooking by Sandy in the kitchen and superb service by Ryan in the dining room. I am eating my way through the menu as this has become a favourite place to eat for my wife and I. I especially like #21 Beef Pho with peanut satay sauce on rice noodles or #25 War Won Ton soup. If you prefer rice noodles or egg noodles no matter ... they will switch to whichever choice you prefer at no additional charge.
