Well, of course, I regretted not getting it and said as much to my friend who was with me at the time. She lives near this store so she reached out to the owner who remembered us and the item that I wanted. Since she is travelling with to shows with her Christmas stuff, she told me friend she would leave the item at her store and we could come in whenever we wanted to get it. We made a beeline that first weekend - yes, it was there with my name on it ... and yes, in the exact size and color I wanted. Great customer service.

As it was, I bought a handmade knitted scarf for a family member for $18 - that's right, something that would have cost me $30 in Boston was $18 and the craftsmanship and design were beautiful. She has a lot of stuff on consignment, so that stuff is subject to what the artisans want to charge (some things were beautiful but a little overpriced). There was a handmade, leather purse that was slashed 1/2 off to $35 - It was worth it but I was not shopping for me (better to given than receive ... damn it!).

It's like Sweet 16 in the Latino culture, significant right of passage into womanhood. I couldn't find any in the store, so asked one of the staff members for some help. Francine thought they had at least one, but she had no luck either. The manager was not in to ask. Francine took my name and number, then called the next day to say that Hallmark does checks on the stores to see which cards are selling and if numbers are low they pull that card/category from inventory. This was one of them. She kindly gave me the phone numbers for a couple other area Hallmarks so I can check availability before driving around. Used to buy Keepsake Christmas ornaments from the Star Trek series at this location. Have enough starships, shuttles and characters to make a whole Star Trek tree! But they've become rather expensive, and find the characters aren't as nicely done as they used to be. However, this year it's Spock's death scene with Kirk from "Wrath of Khan"... Not sure I can resist for long! ;)

I have certainly admired the outside products but I go to Swings'n Things for the country gift shop and the furniture. The shop leans towards decorating items in the country & primitive styles although you can find stuff that would fit into most homes. There is some furniture in the shop itself but then they have another big building out back chock full of furniture as well. They have furniture and pictures, candles and rugs, curtains and mailboxes, flowers, birdhouses, lampshades, metal stars, pillows, (whew!) and much much more! The prices are usually reasonable. Sometimes you find a deal, sometimes you wonder if the owner just accidentally put the wrong tag on an item, 'cause the price just seems a bit out of touch with reality (not often). Swings'n Things can also be a great local place to pick up some gifts for those ladies on your shopping list. You are guaranteed to find items that aren't available in those big box stores. I really liked the shop very much (and the dogs were soooo super cute and friendly). There was not much there I could not find closer to me and a little less expensive. Although, Frannie got a Christmas tree (faux because fake sounds trashy :) on sale that was pretty neat. I hope she posts a picture because I thought that was worth the price. The furniture was very beautiful and there was walking stick I had my eye on and had it not been the holiday season (and I had more cash), I would be using it on my hikes right now. Maybe I need to trek back up there and buy it ....
