I was in here around the beginning of April to pick up some paper plates for Easter plus a few…read moreodds/ends and I had THE worse experience in this store ever! The store was messier than usual, hard to find stuff (only plastic or styrofoam here plus no Easter plates at all), hard to get through & around the aisles which was worse than usual, etc. You get the point. I did find some utensils, fun pens, socks, etc so it kinda made up for not finding all the other stuff I was looking for other than the plates. As I waited in the endless long line cuz as usual only 2 people at the registers for a weekend day (guess we were lucky to have 2 people), I couldn't believe that the cashier in my line was taking her time ringing up the customers cuz she was busy talking (more like yelling at) to a child (son perhaps?) with a man both standing near the front window. Okay, fine, I'll deal, I wasn't in a rush. Well, when she finally started ringing me up, she started automatically bagging my items. She never asked if I wanted them bagged like I've experienced at other stores and I had already put my own personal bag at the end of the counter which i opened up so I could be handed the items as they were each rung up. So I finally said "I have my own bag" and with a huge huff, she took all the items out of the store bag and literally kept them in her hand as she rang up more items which she then shoved into her already full hand until it seemed she was good and ready to hand them to me and all the while continuing her conversation with the guy & child at the window. She then shoved what she had in her hand into mine which didn't give me a good chance to organize them into my own bag so some items weren't crushed. She did the same thing with the rest of my items. I was still really nice to her as I've worked at registers myself in the past. After I paid her, I had to ask her for my receipt as she was already ringing up the next customer and again with the huff, she ripped it out of the register and threw it at me! Don't care what kind of day you had, are having or hate your job, you should always be nice to customers especially when they've been (extremely) nice to you. Was she mad she had to work that day? Was she mad she couldn't charge me for a store bag? Was she mad that the guy & child were there? Who knows but I won't be going back to this store again. I'll drive all the way to the Cheshire store where it's cleaner, neater, better stocked and much nice cashiers! I would've been fired immediately at my past jobs if I ever treated customers so rudely and/or had people hanging at the register talking to me while I was busy ringing people up. Guess this branch is that desperate for cashiers!

She has, more than once, when I've checked out, negatively commented through judgement, both to me and about me to other cashiers and patrons, on my use of a non Marshall's credit card for my purchases. She even goes so far as to comment when I'm with a different cashier and she's working next to us. Once, I was with a different cashier standing next to her when my cashier asked me if I wanted to $ round up for a cause. After I said no thank you, this cashier, standing next to us, started making comments out loud about how she couldn't believe that I said no and then began judging me on how ignorant i must be and not have any awareness of the cause. Her behavior was highly offensive and hurtful as she has no idea about my personal experience and contributions to this cause. She doesn't know me but that didn't stop her from making humiliating out loud and inappropriate comments to me and about me. She negatively commented again just last week as I was checking out with another cashier. Since she won't stop doing this, I will stop going to this store and I will continue to share my bad experiences with others.

The item is a $30 pair of pants. As the return was happening I wrote on my phone and secretly showed the person at the register the situation and that I wanted to repurchase it for her later. She nodded and I gave her my name as we left. As soon as I got out of her car to go home I called and gave more info to have them hold until tomorrow morning when I could again. They told me they would not hold it over night due to their policy. Okay. I knew the policy cause it's been like that forever. I've also seen them wave it many times. Multiple friends over the years have worked here and has shared plenty of stories. I've also worked in stores with the same policy myself and there are always exceptions. I try to talk with the manager to ask if they could at all even until opening tomorrow and just kept coldly saying no. They told me I can come tomorrow and just buy it again as if it was so obvious. I explained how I don't know what the item was. My mother bought it and returned it and I never saw her try it on. So they said I could have it "described" to me so I could find it after. I ended up having to ask someone to drive me back out just for these pants because I wanted to do something kind for my mom. So from a business perspective 10/10 upholding a policy. As a person trying to do a nice thing where it result in a purchase and communicating with a business 4/10. Tact from manager and delivery of words chosen 1/10. Making my mom happy buying the pair of pants she gave up to pay bills with no job? Priceless. The manager was Jonathan btw and when I got there turns out they tried to describe a completely different pair. So they also just would have had me buy a totally different pair.

Stopped by one day in search for a specific item. I found it and so much more…read more I did not have a problem with the cleanliness of this store (maybe one carriage in an isle from an employee stocking, but I am from Waterbury so this was refreshing). Isles were organized in a fashionable manner and everything was easy to find unlike some other stores of this caliber. Staff was okay, nothing really stuck out to me, but I was in a hurry to catch a show next door so I didn't have time to ask questions or pay attention to hellos (a new review should come here from me eventually). Parking lot is no problem and access to it is very reasonable for Route 5. Anything with a stop light ensures easy access, although that left turn barely gets a green arrow (if it even has one). I prefer the back entrance which can be attained by turning left then a right at the previous light. Anyway, the selections are broad and you will find a lot of name brand foods that you cannot find at shop rite or walmart (maybe stop and shop). The gardening section and furniture sections are just what a first home owner is looking for. Prices are great for the quality of the product. This is my department store of choice considering there is no target or job lot in the east end of Wallingford.

My daughter and I have witnessed her bullying employees then turn around and greet us like she wasn't behaving inappropriately right in front of us.
