    Fresh Curtido & Salsa Roja
    Darlene N.

I was so thrilled to see they had introduced this restaurant at the Fashion Valley mall food court. I was a frequent visitor throughout the low desert of California. They started out as a stand at the town street fair on Thursday nights in Palm Springs, eventually landed a spot at the Coachella Festival each year and have gone from there. They opened their brick and mortar store front in Cathedral City in 2023. Now for the food!! These pupusas are amazingly yummy and consistent in quality. The chicken pupusa is my go-to every time perfectly portioned between flavorful chicken and melted cheese. You have to eat with their traditional toppings: Curtido (a lightly fermented cabbage slaw made with shredded cabbage, carrots, onions; seasoned with vinegar and dried oregano) and Salsa Roja (a mild, cooked tomato, typically made with blended tomatoes, garlic, onion, and a hint of chile). This is Salvadoran comfort food to the max. Makes a perfect light breakfast or afternoon snack. Be sure to give them some love when you're at Fashion Valley Mall!

Wow! I was so curious about this place and then I finally tried it and it was amazing. It taste so good and just one bite the savory flavor, the cheese, the meat, and the fixings on the side with the tomato salsa. It was so delicious after one bite I didn't wanna stop, but unfortunately, I was merely just trying to taste it. Service was top notch. They took my whole order and had it ready in a timely fashion. Made sure to call me by my name when the food was done then they offered me to try all of their sides and fixings and I did so they gave me a really nice warm welcome and a warm exit. As far as ambience it's a very small space but they make it as nice as they possibly can. It has the makings of any good restaurant unfortunately it's just a kiosk, but still you feel the vibe soon as you walk in. It's well lit, nice comfy chairs with nice pillows and really cool modern design! I'm for sure coming back!!

Ordered three pupusas; one with cheese and peppers, the other two with chicken.

Decided to try out this place at the Fashion Valley Mall; the wait was about 10 minutes from ordering the food to service. They have a lot of choices for what ingredients you want inside your pupusa and how many you want to order. It can get pricey if you order more than two. The tortilla itself tastes a little bland but the ingredients inside make it more flavorful. Drinks on offer include soda and mexican horchata.

Got the pork and cheese. It was so delicious. It does have a lot of cheese but besides that the papusa is fresh and made to order so the quality is 10/10. The salsa and shredded veggies on the side are also 10/10!

Love the ambiance and atmosphere. Ordered a triple beans and cheese was not disappointed! Extremely Delicious!

$7 for a coke bottle, might as well go to el salvadoreño for cheaper & tastier pupusas and drinks are half the price.

The food takes some time, but it is all made fresh to order. We tried a little bit of everything: the pupusa revueltas, chicken pupusa, yucca frita, plántanos, and the plantano empanadas. Their curtido is very good as well. The ambiance is very family friendly. They have many tables, for large and small parties. The rain may have caused some issues for them recently, as there were drying fans sitting out, and cardboard on the floor near the entryway. Update: it's been about one week now and I called this morning to place a takeout order. They said it would take only about 15 mins. We ordered 6 pupusas revueltas and a large Salvadoran horchata and our total was about $28.

Washed it down with their Salvadorian Horchata. The Caldo de Pollo doesn't have any meat inside the soup, but the broth itself was simply delicious and fresh. Came with a lemon slice and it was perfect after squeezing it in there. The plate came with two pieces of fried chicken and it was cooked nicely. Loved the rice as well, it was like a pilaf. Jalapeno and cheese papusa was sooo good with the melty cheese and chopped fresh jalapeno. The horchata tasted deliciously housemade. Pretty big and a full restaurant during lunchtime on a Saturday. Service is very friendly. Food came out in about 10 minutes. Small parking lot but was lucky to get a spot. Will definitely be back!

These pupusas were so much better in taste and texture, although the spinach and cheese one was more on the salty side. The 3 pies were also very good. You have a choice for a pork, chicken, or a potato pie which we got one of each for our order. They were all good but I especially liked the chicken and potato ones. The chicken soup was very good. As a Colombian who has been craving authentic Colombian cuisine since my last visit to New York in…read moreDecember, I can confidently say this restaurant truly satisfied those cravings. Being nearly eight months pregnant, my expectations were especially high, and it is rare to find a place that meets them so well. From the seasoning of the food to the warm and attentive service, everything about this restaurant stands out. Although I don't recall my server's name, he was incredibly kind and provided excellent service throughout. The ambiance is also worth noting--the space is large, offers plenty of seating options, and even features a large TV, making it a great spot to relax or watch sports. To start, I ordered a watered mango juice along with a beef empanada. The empanada exceeded my expectations--despite being on the smaller side, it was packed with flavor. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered five more to go, which speaks for itself. They were served with fresh ají, a traditional sauce that complemented them perfectly. For my main course, I had the carne asada plate, which included steak, rice, beans, sweet plantains, avocado, tomato slices, and a small arepa. Every component of the dish was well-executed--the beans were flavorful, the meat was well-seasoned, and the overall plate felt authentic. It is often difficult to find truly authentic Colombian food, especially in San Diego, where options are limited or not genuinely Colombian. This restaurant, however, delivers on authenticity and flavor. The portion size was generous, and I ended up taking leftovers home to enjoy later. In addition to the empanadas (two chicken and three beef), I also ordered a buñuelo and a cheese arepa to go. Unfortunately, these items did not meet the same standard. The arepa lacked flavor and was overly greasy, and the buñuelo was dry and similarly oily, even after absorbing excess grease from the bag. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Colombian food, especially given how rare it is to find quality options in this area. Friends of mine visited recently as well and thoroughly enjoyed their bandeja paisa, further confirming the consistency of the food. I will definitely be returning--especially for those empanadas.

I arrived around 5 PM and was seated outside on a small patio. As the sun went down it got cold fast, so I tried to get the attention of a nearby server, same person who brought my food, to ask about moving inside. She was literally at the table right next to me. I said "excuse me" multiple times and she never once looked my way. It felt deliberate. I ended up just grabbing my things and moving inside myself. The same server eventually came over to ask if I had moved, like duh. My actual server, the one who took my order, never came to check on me. Not once. Not after my food arrived, not when I had a concern about my dish, not until I was checking out. I didn't even see her again. And I did have a concern. I ordered the pork belly tacos and what arrived looked nothing like pork belly. It was a thin, flat slice of protein, almost like a fish fillet. I've had pork belly at a lot of places and it has never looked like that. I had no one to ask because, again, my server was nowhere to be found. The Caesar salad was a disappointment too. Just whole, uncut romaine leaves with a light dusting of Parmesan and no real dressing to speak of. Minimal effort on the plate. I also ordered the Baja fish tacos, which were fine but nothing memorable. Bottom line: the food isn't worth the price or the hype, and the service made everything worse. I won't be back.
