Very nice place inside and out. Everything looked neat, clean, and ready for business. There were 13 TCS on the walls that I could see. I'm sure this place is great during sport seasons. Everything is wonderful, except the small bathroom doors. We stopped here for dinner. The food and service were great! We were there on a Sunday evening and it was not crowded. It was quiet, perfect for a family dinner. I got the Faroe Island Salmon and it was delicious. The salmon had a sweet flavor and the mashed potatoes were creamy and seasoned with herbs. The portion was perfect too. My husband enjoyed his Ruben and my son liked his chicken tenders. I will definitely return because there were other items on the menu I'd like to try. The only reason I gave the restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the small doors on the mens' bathroom stalls. They are very cute and look cool, but do not give enough privacy. The women's stalls are the same, but at least have a private bathroom area. read more

They served me shepherd's pie with a shard of glass in it. They were going to remake it, which I guess was fine, but absent an explanation for how a shard of glass ended up in my food (which never came) I wasn't terribly interested. They took it off the check, which was appropriate, but no manager ever came over to follow up. They just left it to the server to figure out. And she was nice, but when something of that magnitude happens it deserves managerial attention. As scary as dining experience as I've ever had. read more

Absolutely the best food - nothing like it in the region. Start with the mozzarella logs, as they are perfect ton and have a kick. Then the Fish and Chips, or one of their awesome corned beef dishes. Potato Leek soup makes cold days better, and the drink and dessert list is impressive. A great atmosphere, very clean, and prices are fantastic. 5 Star for sure! read more

I wish I had the option to leave a zero rating. We went there this afternoon and sat at the bar. The bartender never acknowledged us. He went back to the kitchen to retrieve an order for a customer. While he was gone we heard some of the worst language from either locals or waitresses who had completed their shift. We almost left at that point. Then the bartender returned to deliver the plate of food to a customer. Good, we thought, now we'll get service. Wrong. He promptly ignored us again and began to interact with the foul language people and someone who came out of the kitchen and appeared to be the manager all while turning his back on us. I really enjoyed hanging out there yesterday. Staff was great, we had some cold beer, played cornhole, and had lunch. I had the Reuben and my husband had the fish & chips - might be the best fish & chips we've had. Batter is great! Light and crispy. Perfectly fried. First thing you'll notice is the decor is gorgeous. The Fitzgerald family brought their carpentry skills to the show! The stained glass, Irish motif and Irish music were all nice touches. Impressive on tap beer selection. Owners are on site and the pride of ownership is very plain to see. Looking forward to visiting again real soon & trying some different items. They have so much entertainment lined up and I know people in Tappahannock are so happy to have this place up & running. Good luck to all read more

Disappointing Experience - Loud Music and Slow Service My husband and I visited Fitzgerald's last night with high hopes, but unfortunately, our experience fell short. Upon arrival, the music was so loud that it was nearly impossible to hear the hostess or our waitress. We started our meal by ordering appetizers, only to find out that they were already out of our first choice, despite it being only 6:30 pm on a Saturday. We opted for our second choice, but after a 25-minute wait, we had to ask our waitress to check on them. She mentioned the kitchen was backed up, even though the restaurant was less than half full. When our fried pickles finally arrived, they were served on a plate with no plates for us to eat on, so we had to grab some napkins from the dispenser on our table. We ordered another beer, but it took 15 minutes and a request to the server to locate our waitress to find out where our drinks were. The main dishes came with mixed results - the sandwich was good, but the corned beef and cabbage had an overwhelmingly salty broth that made it nearly inedible. To top it off, the atmosphere was uncomfortable due to the extreme volume of the music - mind you the music was good and would have loved to listen if we had come for a nightclub evening, the only time we could speak to each other was during song changes. I noticed other tables were having difficulty communicating as well, with people resorting to shouting across the table or focusing on their phones. The large TVs playing martial arts fights, guys beating the crap out of each other, only added to the chaos and made it feel like we were at home having dinner in front of the tv, but without the ability to choose what we watched. Overall, our experience was disappointing, and we hope the management will address these issues to improve the dining experience for future guests. We do not want to discourage patrons because we want the long awaiting restaurant to succeed. But there are some tweaks that need attention. Perhaps dining on a day there is no band. And maybe the next pot of corn beef won't have as much salt. Please think of addressing these concerns as we want this pub to stay. It was clean and nicely decorated. A fun place to hang out with the pool tables, band and bar. Just not for a dinner date night. read more

Really enjoyed Fitzgerald's. There is a lot to consider in a place like this, but it might have an "everybody "kind-of-vibe. The restaurant is roughly separated into two halves. One side is dominated by a large 360-degree bar and two coin-slot pool tables, plus some high and low dining options. The other has a stage with tables. We were there on a Thursday night around 6PM, and they were setting up for live music. Fitzgerald's was a random choice on a return trip to Fredericksburg, and we think we lucked out! First, the appetizer choices were varied and impressive. But, my dining companion has gluten and dairy intolerances, which left zero options for us. Everything was either breaded or served with cheese. That is not a slight on the restaurant, just a fact. If it wasn't impolite/sadistic, I would have ordered the Emerald Isle Artichoke Dip or Reuben Bites and enjoyed them myself. But it wasn't in the cards today. The wait staff were attentive and busy. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and the dietary limitations. She suggested a potential appetizer of rabbit food, but we ultimately decided to go with entrees alone. There were many Irish dishes that looked tantalizing, including Shepherd's Pie and Corned Beef and Cabbage, but we stuck with Fitz's Signature Burger and Fitz's Famous Reuben. The menu indicated a $2 option for a Gluten-Free Bun, and it proved to be fantastic. My dining partner had to ask the server if it really had no wheat, if only to stifle her disbelief. My Reuben was [Chef's Kiss] Spot on. Perfectly grilled and manageably overflowing with the choicest of examples of the standard ingredients. We both had the Pub Fries and devoured them. The only complaint was that the server did not ask how the burger should be cooked, but my companion did not volunteer her preference either. They were asked about toppings and such. I wanted to complain afterwards that the sandwich wasn't big enough, but there were no legs for that argument to stand on; I was full! Could I have packed another half away? Absolutely! Would I have had a comfortable drive home? Not on your life! The portions were just right, and very reasonably priced. This is not geared as a family-focused establishment. The word's "Pub" and "Bar" are on the outside. That is what this is. Most of their unique culinary offerings, and I do mean the majority, have some sort of alcohol-related ingredient. Much of the standard fare does not. Whether a whiskey glaze on the salmon, Guinness in the Beef Stew, or Beer Cheese appetizers, there are quite a few tempting choices if that is your preference. There are a boatload of flatscreens around the bar, so any good day of sports will have ample representation. We departed before the promised Live Music, but the jukebox selections were not so loud that a conversation was impossible. The patronage was steady, with ample parking out front, and plenty of folks coming in. There were lots of regulars and the Craic was infectious (look it up). The bathroom doors are straight-up insane. This is a cracked-out Ally McBeal nightmare scenario in the flesh. They are open at the top and bottom, and accessible from the common hallway. In other words, THERE IS NO MEN'S ROOM. The women's area is sequestered somewhat, but behind another "incomplete" door. I suppose the worst-case-scenarios conjured by a frightened and disturbed imagination have not yet come to pass, as the previous review to mention it was 7 months ago. Overall, I would visit again. A fifth star is well within reach, and the Shepherd's Pie or some other excellent dish could render all other distractions irrelevant. read more

This place has become our favorite place to eat at in Tappahannock. The best burger in town, by far! I get the burger with blue cheese and the burger itself is thick, juicy and succulent. I have never been disappointed by this choice. It's always consistent. There's nothing better than having the juice run out of the burger when you take that first bite until you can't eat anymore. You know you're in for a treat! I would recommend this dish any day of the week! My second favorite are the wings. We get Moonshine BBQ and the wings are always cooked to perfection and the sauce is perfection! We've gotten into the habit of getting them a few days every week. The service is beyond compare. The waitstaff is attentive without being intrusive. My husband and I both enjoy the food, festivities and the atmosphere at Fitzgerald's. Hands down the best food experience in Tappahannock! My husband and I have been here three times now. Each time I can say the service has been really good and friendly. The food has been amazing. Some notable menu items, the mozzarella sticks, which are the best I've had anywhere. Wings are good too! We have enjoyed the British food items, like fish and chips as well as the bangers and mash. If I was to give a constructive criticism, and it is minor criticism, is the selection of booze is minimal. I know its a beer/Irish pub, but some of us enjoy cocktails more than beer. To be spectacular would be to have more boozy selections or craft cocktails. 9 out of 10 really. OVERALL I highly recommend. read more

Clean, well lit. Dinner at 530 was way too loud even on a Saturday night. Had to shout across a high-top to talk to my wife so we basically didn't get to talk during dinner. Outside sound volume but inside, no bueno. Guinness stew was good but portion a wee bit small for the price. Corned beef and cabbage was too salty, not edible and hiding the mashed potatoes underneath just made it unappetizing. Onion rings and wings were tasty. Kitchen seemed to struggle getting orders out, normally not a big issue but with the music so loud, longer than needed and left with a full belly and a migraine. read more

We desperately needed something good for our little town. As soon as you walk into Fitzgerald's, the first thing you notice is an inviting atmosphere with lots of decorative wood elements. You can tell the tables are all custom-made, and they are beautiful. The chairs are real, padded dining chairs, and are very comfortable. Fitzgerald's doesn't offer a ton of food options, but what they do offer, they have perfected. I prefer a restaurant that focuses on what they do best, rather than lots of menu options that are all over the place and hit or miss on quality. The menu has something for everyone, so you don't need to worry about variety. They can satisfy even the pickiest of children, too! Even beyond the great food is the wonderful staff! If you need anything, it will only be briefly, as the staff are all extremely attentive to their customers. Will you have a bad meal here? It's always possible, but I know they will do their best to correct it. How many bad cheeseburgers has the clown served you before you stopped eating there? Exactly! Small businesses need your business and your grace. Mistakes can happen- it's all in how it's handled. We needed something good in Tappahannock, and we really got something great with this place! Awful customer service! My family and I came in around 2 in the afternoon to make a reservation for dinner for 11 of us. A waitress took my name, phone number, and time we wanted to come in and wrote it down in a notebook. We asked if the following night would be better and she assured us "we can make it work". When the 11 of us arrived, no one could find our reservation and then we were told "we don't accept reservations." I explained that I watched this girl write down my information and was told "we take information but it's first come, first served". I said that was never explained to me and asked for a manager. The manager was not apologetic, said we never take reservations and and he would remind his staff to share the correct information. There was a big long table with 1 person sitting there and we were told that was a party of 15 and they called and reserved the table. I said how is that any different than my sister and I physically coming here and reserving a table?! They did not really have an answer. Ultimately, we left and will Not return. I am incredibly disappointed as we are summer locals and we're looking forward to a new weekly spot. Our money will be going elsewhere. Edited to respond to the owner: if you don't take reservations, there is no need to take a customers information. Your staff was not properly informed. At no point did anyone tell us that afternoon it's a first come first serve restaurant. Had we known, we would not have been in this situation. As someone who has been in the customer service business for over 20 years, this was disappointing and unacceptable. You have lost a large legacy family who spends their summers here trying to support local businesses. read more

There's no denying that Fitzgerald's has style -- dramatic lighting, modern plating, and a great menu that dares to be different because its real food people want not all that fancy stuff. And while the early hype made me skeptical, I'll admit it: the food is actually good. Sometimes even great. But the overall experience? Still very much a work in progress. The kitchen clearly has talent. The flavors were thoughtful, the technique was solid, but the speed of delivery left us full after the appetizer because the meals took so long to come out. The meal salads are extremely over priced for the content. The $2 add on salad looked basically the same. Unfortunately, the front of house isn't holding up its end. Service ranged from indifferent to Management being nonexistent. Staff seemed undertrained or overwhelmed, and basic requests -- like drink menus or water refills -- were either forgotten or delivered with an apologetic shrug. The bar was its own mixed bag. A dark-haired bartender stood out as the night's MVP: fast, composed, and turning out cocktails that actually matched the polish of the kitchen. I had multiple cocktails made by a bartender that tasted as if she read it from an incorrect recipe book and then when I requested a remake from the dark haired woman, her name started with an M I believe, Megan or Morgan, it was not only correct but the best I've tasted! A red-haired bartender also made an effort, but seemed lost and overwhelmed. She clearly cared and was doing her best, but a bit more training, pacing and assistance would go a long way. The ambiance and theme was done very nice if they had just matched security, flow and the correctly trained help, as equally as the decorations. A bar/restaurant is more than decorations. The vibe works better in photos than it does over the course of a two-hour meal. The DJ played great music early, altho live music on a Saturday night would be more enticing. Fitzgerald's has the makings of something special, especially if they can get their service in sync with their kitchen. For now, it's worth visiting, but not late, police showed and was very out of hand after 10pm, just manage your expectations and sit near the good bartender. Rating: (3.5/5) Excellent food. I am giving a high rating for the effort made with the staff. My Mom, Dad, and I waiting for over 45 minutes for our appetizer. During that time we witnessed 3 parties, that came in after us, were served their appetizers and food. Our sweet waitress was overwhelmed. Unfortunately, the beer on tap was all warm. No one told us part of the menu was only served after 5pm. No one came to refill water. And no one took our plates away. After asking staff about our food and them acknowledging how long we had been there, we finally received somewhat warm onion rings. When order finally arrived, food was okay. My Rueben was okay, not "mile high", and not warm. Hoping, after hearing the owner talk about his 15 year lease, that the service and quality of food gets better. I was disappointed that said owner didn't greet other patrons. Only a gentleman that was invited to the soft opening. Truly hope for the best. Menu options are really good. We came here tonight and our experience was TERRIBLE. It took almost 15 minutes for someone to even greet us and ask what we wanted to drink. Three of us arrived and were waiting for the remaining 4 people in our party. We asked for 7 waters and our server, Bryce, came over with only 3. Then it took another 15-20 minutes AFTER the remaining people in our party arrived for him to come back and ask for their drink order. When they requested water, he came back with not enough after repeatedly asking for 7 waters originally. We were also waiting on appetizers and he looked confused as to where the order should go. There were only about 10 people in the restaurant when we arrived. We had to request appetizer plates at which time he brought out tea saucers. We finally ordered and it took over an hour for the food to come. Two of us ordered house salads and they arrived with the entrees. Food was subpar especially with the amount of time it took to arrive. As we were waiting we observed that he was completely clueless with any order. We ordered two desserts to go and also requested the check. The check arrived and he stood over the person paying THE ENTIRE TIME looking over their shoulder. That makes it very uncomfortable and awkward. Then I saw him round the corner with the two desserts on a plate when we told him multiple times it was to go. He never did announce his name when greeting us at first so we only know his name from the ticket. This was the worst service ever. We heard other customers complaining about the lack of awareness for orders as we were leaving. Do not waste your time coming here. read more
