She provided everyone with multiple water bottles and made sure to take frequent breaks at sites of interest. Her instructions were easy to follow with regards to bike safety and she was able to keep our group of 6 (4 in our team plus another pair) together throughout the entire tour with no issues. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, regardless of their experience level as it can likely accommodate any rider with even just a basic knowledge and familiarity. The tour itself was relaxing, beautiful, and educational. We frequently stopped for historical and contemporary updates on the places we visited while traversing the city and islands. The fact that there are effectively no cars on the island itself really enhanced the experience and made it feel like being out for a serene Sunday bike ride with the family. We really appreciated that at each stop she already had a nice spot picked out to take group photos and helped position and arrange us for optimal configuration and angles. This was such a wonderful way to explore the Toronto Islands, I highly recommend this tour and our guide Mariana!

What could the tour guide provide for us that we could not get by just walking from store to store? What if there is too much history incorporated and it is boring? What if the food is too strange? Or too run of the mill? Fortunately, Shirley's tour ended up providing a good balance of everything. I left very knowledgeable about the history of the Kensington Market area and also with a very stuffed tummy. There are a lot of options in the Kensington Market and having a guide pick things out for your group that are tried and true allows for a larger variety of foods to try and less wasted money on things you should have passed on. The area merchants that we visited all seemed to have a close rapport with Shirley which was nice to see. Pretty much everyone on our tour (6 people) were foodies, too, which just added to great discussion and knowledge sharing.

We had been to the distillery district a few years back and thought it was really cool. The tour is about an hour which is the perfect amount of time for this area as it isn't huge. We had 4 other people with us so it was a pretty small tour. Our guide Caeli was great. She was enthusiastic and really had a passion for the city and it's history. She was half the fun of the tour. We learned a lot in a small amount of time. The tour ended with a couple of samples of chocolate from SOMA, which were incredible and led to us going back and purchasing some chocolates. There were also some beer samples included, and while we could have walked in and got samples on our own it was fun to do it with the group and to have Caeli's commentary while we sampled some of the different offerings. I would highly recommend the tour for anyone who is interested in history.

The narrator had great energy and you can tell she either really loved her job or she enjoyed telling customers the history of the Toronto waterfront. I can't quite remember her name (apologies!) but our tour was on 05/27/19 at noon and our crew (especially the girl who gave the narration) had amazing humor, charm, and sass. We had also missed our 11am tour because we ran late in storing our luggage at a nearby storage locker and the staff person at the window had no issues rescheduling us for the 12pm tour. Amazing!

It might be worth calling ahead to see if space on the small back upper level is prioritized for those who can't navigate the stairs.

It was specifically listed as "Old Town Free Walking Tour of Toronto, Gratuity-Based," and it worked out perfectly, as the other person wasn't looking for a food tour, which is why we didn't do one at St. Lawrence Market. The meeting place was Berczy Park, and there was a booking fee of around 7 CAD per person. If I recall correctly, tours were available at 10:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 6:00 PM, and there was a suggested gratuity of 30 CAD. For our English-language tour, I think there were around 25 people, but there is also a private tour available. Our tour guide was Darren, a friendly guy who kept the group together and gave some very useful information while sprinkling in the occasional joke or something similar for some levity. He answered questions as best as he could, pointed out some things we hadn't noticed, and was overall excellent. We kept up a pretty brisk pace, which I didn't mind, and he had said that we could slow down if needed. The tour went through many different places, with the tour eventually ending at Union Station. Overall, I would highly recommend it.

Casa Loma is Canada's premier attempt at European grandiosity, built between 1911 and 1914 by trust…read morefund baby Sir Henry Pellatt, who clearly won the "born into a rich family" lottery. Spanning 98 rooms, the sprawling Gothic Revival estate comes complete with secret tunnels, an oven supposedly large enough to roast a whole cow, and an impressive collection of empty promises.  Sir Henry went vastly over budget to build a designated "Windsor Room" to host visiting royals, who repaid his hospitality by never actually turning up.   Somewhat sadly, the Canadian government took over Sir Henry's electric company without fair compensation, forcing poor Sir Henry out and leaving the city of Toronto to seize Casa Loma for unpaid taxes in 1924... The Happy Ending is that this all led to Casa Loma being a fun castle tourist attraction, like B or C level castle in Europe. Extra fun when I visited as they some Downtown Abbey costumes on display throughout all the luxurious rooms. Escape rooms, tunnels, towers, and a little museum made this all so fascinating. Its pricy, but entertaining, but get CityPass to save a bit of money.

You certainly need a good couple of hours to see everything here, but you could see the highlights for less. The estate was a great museum of a past businessman and to Hollywood history, but I am docking a star due to cheapy and ad hoc additions to the property. All throughout the towers are advertising for castle escape rooms, the underground tunnels were overly decorated for Halloween in a cheapy way, taking away from the historical tour, and there is a floor that is way too dedicated to military history when that is a small connection to the propeety. I am also docking a star since the overall experience is overpriced. It's cool to see once, but I wouldn't bring people back or put it on a top tourist list. Views from the tower were pretty cool though.
