I'm fairly new to Pilates, having only taken a few mat and reformer classes over the years. I started Pilates to help rehab a lower back and sciatica issue since I didn't find much relief from physical therapy. The studio itself is lovely--the front desk staff is friendly and attentive, and the waiting area is cozy, clean, quiet, and peaceful. I also really appreciate that they keep doors and windows open for fresh air, especially during cold and flu season. A friend recommended private lessons with Carlo, and I've been extremely happy with him. He's an excellent instructor who took the time to understand my medical condition and tailor sessions that avoid aggravating my injury. Instead, he focuses on strengthening my hips, back, and glutes, and improving my posture. I'm learning so much and highly recommend his instruction and the studio. read more

Hello, my name is Uli and I'm a Spondy! Jokes aside, my doctor recently told me that my leg and back problems result from a condition called Spondylolisthesis - a slipped vertebrae. He mentioned that strengthening my core would be my best bet to control for further damage and he also said that Pilates had shown some promising results in recent studies. Well, I'm not someone who distrusts the opinion of an expert and so I set out to find the best Pilates instructor in my area. I used the messaging feature here on Yelp to connect with 4 or 5 different Pilates studios in Marin: FitWise in Mill Valley was one of the studios and I swear that within a few hours of me sending the message, Ronda - the owner of the studio - gave me a call. I was immediately impressed by Ronda's knowledge about my condition and that comforted me immensely. Since then, I've seen Ronda for regular 1:1 Pilates sessions and I also attend group classes about twice a week. (One of my favorite classes is the matt pilates class as that one gives me a lot of inspiration for home exercises, which I have since integrated into my life as well.) Technical excellency aside, I would also like to give a shoutout to all the instructors and staff: they're all super nice and even though I may have had only a very small interaction with them, they all know me by name. Honestly, that makes such a difference and it makes me look forward to going to class. PS: I would like to encourage the men of Mill Valley to also join this studio. I sometimes feel a bit lonely among the largely female clientele ;-) read more

I love FitWise, and have been working out with them for the past 15 months. It's a super kind group of folks, & I'm happy to have them in my life. Thank You all @ FitWise. read more

This organization is absolutely corrupt, unethical, and a total scam. They charged me $210 for two Pilates classes. This is absolutely an outrage. They hide behind an email address and have the poorest customer service I've ever seen. Upon Calling to use the items that I paid for, I was told they were not available to discuss the issue. They hide behind an email address. What a sad state of affairs! dishonest, corrupt, slimy and unethical... I was told the owner is awful to her teachers this the reason for turnover... I only wanted to use what I paid for! I will be reporting this as fraud to my credit card company. read more

I had my first private session today at Fitwise and it was amazing! I am brand new to Pilates and the instructor spent a good amount of time educating me. I'm looking forward to my next session. read more

Fitwise has been such a wonderful find since moving here from NYC. All the instructors are amazing- so talented and knowledgeable. I couldn't recommend it more. The front desk staff is also amazing and so helpful!! 1000% recommend! read more

I am a six-month customer and enjoy a private lesson each week. I have worked with three individuals who are all super experienced and articulate Who would know, but after all these experiences, each class introduces new exercises which keep things fresh and innovative. In summary, the culture of this place is a huge positive making each visit a joy. read more

I've been going to FtiWise for over 2 years and happy to have discovered this place. I take private lessons and classes. I enjoyed Pilates years ago but fell out of practice when I began to have knee issues. FitWise instructors have helped me get back into the practice as well as show me how a Pilates practice can improve my knee function and strength (without re-injuring myself!) The Foundations class is a great way to start or relearn the practice - it's not easy, but is doable, and a lot of fun. The classes are small, allowing for lots of attention. Highly recommend! read more

Have been coming here a year-and-a-half and it's changed my life. The teachers are incredibly skilled, the facilities and machines are immaculate and well-kept, and the staff is super friendly and professional. read more

I highly recommend Fitwise Pilates! I started coming two years ago to strengthen my core because my neck and shoulders were bothering me. I did three private sessions with Stephanie (she is excellent!) because I had never used a reformer machine and had no clue what I was doing. She is an awesome instructor who knows so much about anatomy. In fact, all of the instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and are able to micro-adjust you from across the room. I am so grateful for this studio, and their ability to pivot to outdoor reformer classes during Covid. It's a gorgeous space and very peaceful- you can enjoy yourself as you get your booty kicked in class! I highly recommend Ronda- she is a master. Also, I love Lori, Jen and Marianne's classes. Definitely try them out. You will get your money's worth for sure! read more

Above and Beyond. Way More Than a Fitness Studio. Like Nothing Else. The entire team at FitWise is exceptional. This studio is unlike any other. From day one, FitWise has been a hub of multidimensional healing to me. Words cannot express my gratitude for the studio's supportive and compassionate atmosphere. Ronda, Carlos, Stephanie, Lori, and Alison have been a constant for me the past few years. Like so many of us, I became isolated and constrained due to COVID while simultaneously dealing with major life and health crises (mind/body/spirit). Ronda and her team made sure I stayed engaged and connected no matter what. FitWise has been a major source of physical support, comfort, kindness, and compassion for Mr on a weekly basis. The caliber of professionalism and service is unmatched. Ronda, founder, is truly gifted at teaching, finding top professionals and creating spaces that nurture and strengthen us, the kind of environment that inspires growth and even transformation for those interested! Everyone of her trainers have met me where I am and worked with me to be as strong and active as I could. Through major depression, surgeries, perimenopause, and everything in between! For the last four years, I have had the good fortune to work with most of the incredibly talented and kind-hearted FitWise instructors. I am feeling lighter and in less pain through myofascial release work in my weekly sessions with Fran, an incredibly wonderful person abd skillful PT. Ronda gives me stellar references to PTs, bidyworkers, and doctors who have helped me (and my daughter) immensely on this hellish leg of my health journey. My health challenges could easily have prevented me from coming to the studio. I could have abandoned on my efforts to get stronger and be healthier. Instead, the FitWise team has worked diligently and flexibly with me to keep me connected to my self in the most compassionate and helpful ways possible. I am forever privileged and blessed to be a member of the FitWise community. read more

Fitwise is the pilates studio I'd been searching for in Marin! I pretty much see Marianne exclusively and she's done an incredible job at preparing my body for baby #2 while keeping me challenged. As someone who prefers a blend of pilates and conditioning, she tailors duets and privates to my needs and I always feel stronger and accomplished when leaving the studio (and days after). The folks at the front desk are friendly and communicative. The equipment is clean and the classes, outside under the redwoods, are a treat! read more

Fitwise is an excellent Pilates studio. What makes them unique is that every instructor is great. Whether it's a class or a private lesson, you can count on professional instruction and creative workouts. I recently had surgery and decided to do a series of private lessons to get back in shape. Danielle was my instructor, not only did she help me regain my strength, but she also helped me overcome a frozen shoulder that had been bothering me for several months. Her 20+ years of experience is a true testament to her, Fitwise and their commitment to Pilates and Gyrotonics. read more

It is a pleasure to have found this studio. All the trainers I have worked with have long experience coaching and are excellent at creating a custom Workout for my needs. I have nothing but rave reviews about this pilates studio. Where do I start. First of all in this difficult Covid world we are living in, Fitwise meets all the criteria for a safe environment. Their reformer classes and private sessions are all held on their very generous outdoor balconies. There are numerous sanitizing stations to keep your hands clean. When indoors, they have many windows and doors open to keep the air flowing as well as air sanitizer apparatus in many locations. I have been doing pilates regularly for over 5 years now. It started when I was diagnosed with sever spinal stenosis. My 5 hour surgery was postponed 5 years ago due to a sanitization issue in the surgery room. I proceeded to lose 12 pounds and commenced a regular pilates regimen. I have had to level 10 pain since then and escaped spinal surgery!! Most of my private sessions are with the owner, master instructor and extremely knowledgeable Ronda Priestner. She really has an extensive knowledge of the human anatomy and adjusts her programs to most benefit her clients. She is patient but doesn't sacrifice a vigorous routine in her individual programs. And on top of that, she is a hoot to work with. What more could a person want. Big applause for Fitwise!!! read more

I like everything about these folks. The atmosphere is friendly, low key, supportive and ideal for anyone, including beginners and/or folks who might be a little bit overweight, out of shape or would not feel comfortable in a typical gym or fitness studio setting. At the same time, their incredibly qualified instructors can provide challenges for the most experienced and fit clients. If you check out their website you will find that the instructors' experience and training is far superior to other far less qualified providers. Their qualifications are essential for achieving results and avoiding injury. My own results have been outstanding. I no longer have a nagging and painful shoulder condition and I am moving better. Plus, my program has been designed to support and enhance my longtime strength training. You can't do better! read more

I'm obsessed with this place. I've gotten private instruction with Jess and bodywork with Fran and they have both been wonderful. They are very knowledgeable about the body, listen to where I need work and really know how to support their clients. Would recommend to anyone just starting Pilates or anyone who is looking for an incredible bodyworker. I came in with pain and within one session Fran helped me lessen my pain significantly. Needless to say I'll be spending a lot of time at this studio. read more

Ronda and The FitWise Pilates team is nothing short of excellent. I work with Rhonda on an individual basis, and I do Pilates but also restorative Pilates. I've been rehabbing my knee injury and she knows exactly what to do to make the rehab go faster. Ronda knows in detail, all about interconnecting of muscles and reflexes and creates the right exercises to restore the joint movement and strengthening. The studio is always spotless and they are always cleaning up after every session. The teachers and classes are excellent. I can't say enough good things about FitWise Pilates. read more

In my life, I've been a dancer, a runner, a yogi and hoops player.... nothing has re-shaped & transformed my body quite like pilates has! I've been training with Ronda Priestner's team at FitWise Pilates and in just a few weeks I'm longer, leaner, stronger and often sore-all-over in the very best way. Her team of experienced, personable teachers are fantastic at what they do, offer patient and precise instruction and meet you at your body's pace and goals. I've enjoyed classes with Amelia, Savannah and Lori and loved learning new techniques and approaches with each of them. My posture is much-improved, my abs + core are visibly stronger and I feel physically balanced all over. The benefits of pilates have noticeably improved all my other diverse physical activities, and I look forward to classes being a regular part of my lifestyle. read more

FitWise is a fantastic Pilates studio. I've been working out here for almost 2 years now and I highly recommend it for both the new outdoor reformer classes and the private sessions with incredible instructors. I have been taking pilates classes throughout the Bay Area at numerous studios and fitwise is by far the best studio. Ronda and her team provide the safest and most effective form of exercise. Every instructor at this studio is experienced, knowledgeable and work so closely that every employee knows any special needs you may have before you step into that class room which makes every class and session feel personalized. During class the instructors focus on all of their students, they are clear and easy to follow, demonstrating exercises, fixing your form and describing every position so clearly sometimes using several analogies so it is always easy to understand. The instructors make class fun, they know the body, they know pilates. I highly recommend this studio! In time you will see amazing results in your body and every day life. Best in the bay! I do pilates at Fitwise to strengthen my core to avoid straining my back and joints for tennis. It is amazing how much it has helped. The amount of work required for pilates is so low compared to the benefit of not getting injured every time I have a tennis match! The instructors are great. I like mixing it up with different instructors and getting a different type of pilates experience in each class. I also really like all the exercise accoutrements that help keep the focus on specific areas. All in all, it's a fun way to exercise and stay in shape. read more

I've been working with the FitWise team for a couple of months now, seeing Alison & Olivia in a personal training capacity twice a week. I came into pilates with some issues. I have a herniated disc in my neck and a prosthetic cervical disc as well. I've also had several major abdominal surgeries over the past few years, my body is holding a lot of scar tissue and has felt really weak and heavy/overweight and unfamiliar. Alison & Olivia have done an amazing job helping me gently refamiliarize myself with my own body while pushing a little further each week. One of the things that I value the MOST about their training is that I go home feeling sore in the right places and not with a sore & spasming neck. My neck is very sensitive and I haven't awoke once to a screaming neck in all these weeks. I feel like that is a major testament to their talent and the care they take with they way I progress into this practice. I went to FitWise looking for community and mindful physical care and so far that is exactly what I've found. I definitely recommend joining them on the deck for a class, or a training sesh--with the breezes & the redwoods, it is cheerful and thoughtful and there are all sorts of people at different stages of their wellness/athletic journeys in this community. read more

The team at Fitwise are amazing! I love coming to this community of kind, engaged, enthusiastic teachers. Their expertise is deeper and wider than any place I've been to in 10 years of visiting various Pilates places. The classes offer something for beginners and experienced folk. Gyro-tonic has revolutionised my hip and spine flexibility and strength. After 6 months I no longer have to have regular chiropractic and my hip is pain free, and my posture and walking are like my 20 year younger self! Ronda is a magician, and also the other teachers she had handpicked. Give yourself the treat of a 1:1 with any of them and you will learn SO much! read more

This is a long review, but I feel the need to tell everyone precisely why I love this studio, and especially it's owner, Ronda. Quick take away would be that I have been going to FitWise for about a year now and I cannot recommend this studio highly enough. The long story... I have steel rods in my back from scoliosis surgery I had as a teen. This has led to increasing chronic pain over the past 2 decades. I have tried yoga as well as strength training in the past but never with any success given my body's limitations. After a spine surgeon recommended I try pilates, I looked at Yelp reviews and reached out to FitWise. Ronda was extremely responsive. Not only did she spend a lot of time assessing my abilities at my initial appointment, she talked about minor adjustments I could make in my every day life to decrease pain and retrain my body. She also recommended a local myofascial specialist who could help with the trigger points I have developed over the years. The referral she gave me has been life changing in conjunction with pilates. Because of my limitations, I do 1:1 private pilates sessions at least once a week, often 2. I have worked with a number of instructors at the studio. While each has a different background and specialty, what they all have in common is a sixth sense about what's happening with my body and how to help me stretch and strengthen without flaring up. No other exercise program has been able to do this. Additionally, Ronda is incredibly invested in her clients. I have received emails from her following up to see whether I liked a new piece of equipment and how my body felt after, or to make suggestions about which instructor would be a great fit given a particular aspect of their training. She has even reached out to see if I was okay when I had put myself on the back burner and not made it into the studio for a couple of weeks. She is thoughtful and kind and her studio is relaxed and welcoming. If you give FitWise a try, I'm confident you won't be disappointed. read more

The instructors are the most highly trained in the business. Very careful of Covid precautions . After experiencing other studios, this studio is the highest level of instructors, that I have experienced. It is well run and easy to book , pay and are notified with reminders. If you're looking for high quality Pilates instruction and a warm encouraging environment, this is your spot. I was looking for a Gyrotonics studio in Marin and found Fit Wise Pilates in Mill Valley, which offers a full range of both Pilates and Gyrotonics equipment classes. The studio is lovely and the staff is warm, attentive, and highly skilled. I am thrilled with the classes and vibe of Fitwise, and cannot recommend the studio highly enough. read more

I discovered Fitwise after losing a year of my Pilates practice due to Covid. They offered outdoor classes on a shaded deck - finally something that felt safe to get back at it. I've been a twice weekly devotee for a year now, have gotten back my pre-Covid fitness and then some, and haven't looked back. An amazing array of instructors with different styles to suit everyone. With my schedule and style preference, I've found that I am partial to Jean and Lori but there is no one I haven't thought taught a great and challenging class. The classes are always interesting as the instructors shake things up on the regular - trying new things and keeping it spicy. The Mind Body app makes it super simple to schedule classes and plan my practice with a totally reasonable cancellation policy for when something arises. But they don't just throw out a general schedule and leave it. They respond dynamically to demand and add extra classes when waitlists start to form and their front office staff is super professional and responsive. I also love the community of supportive women that make up the clientele. This is a woman-owned business that has managed to keep going through the pandemic with a unique ability and willingness to pivot however needed to stay available to clients. If you're looking for a Pilates studio, this is the best around. read more

Pilates can sometimes creep towards the cross fit model of pushing your body with extreme stretches or jarring movement. But not at FitWise. I've taken a class with Mari who is a smart and experienced instructor and is more concerned with form and slowly building flexibility and strength. The classes are methodical and always building towards a challenge (trust me, you'll sweat), but not aggressively. The instructors are thoughtful and observant, always asking before class if you have any limitations and how you are feeling. They'll make suggestions on modifications and watch you closely so you leave refreshed and happy. And the new space in Mill Valley is perfect. The light floors and sky lights give you a sense of lightness and calmness. It's right downtown but in a quiet space that makes your session peaceful and productive. Stop by, tell your instructor about your goals and be very satisfied with your results. read more

I discovered Fitwise during Covid and the outside reformer classes were a godsend. Since then I've been doing a combination of classes and a once a week private with Elizabeth. I started doing acupuncture due to some postpartum/carrying-my-baby issues and then my acupuncturist advised to find a good Pilates studio to maximize the healing process. That's when I went on Yelp and discovered that FitWise Pilates is at the top of the list. I immediately called and got a quick response back unlike another studio I was initially recommended to go to. Rhonda the owner was really helpful and that's how it all began. My first private session was with Michele and I want to say that she's just phenomenal!!! First of all she's one of the sweetest people I've met in my entire life. I love her energy. She's friendly yet very professional. Secondly, she has a great attention to detail, very knowledgeable and is truly inspiring :) I look forward to every class I take with her! Lastly I'll say that I love the fact that studio is neat, clean and small. Classes therefore are also small and almost always feel like semi-private sessions. It's also very obvious that the owner Rhonda and other instructors really care about the business and client satisfaction and also love what they do. Good job FitWise Pilates! You are wonderful and I'm so glad I found you! :) read more

I cannot recommend Fitwise Pilates enough. I am so happy that I found them in El Cerrito. From the very first contact the owner, Ronda was attentive and informative. I have worked most closely with Michelle and Stephanie in both individual and class sessions. They are both extremely knowledgable in the way the body works and they seemlessly offer modifications based on how each participant is feeling each day. I have never experienced this type of individualized service in any class I have taken elsewhere. One on one sessions help solidify my needs and increase my comfort level. Class sessions are amazingly tailored to each participants needs. My posture has improved, I feel stronger and healthier! If you have been thinking about trying Pilates, or need a new studio, you should definitely check out Fitwise. read more

I've been doing pilates for a long time to help manage some fairly complicated spine issues (I've had surgeries to repair a fracture in my lower back and replace a disc in my neck). Fitwise Pilates is THE best therapeutic Pilates studio I have encountered. I first met Rhonda about three years ago when we worked together on rehabilitating a person with a chronic back condition. She is studied and precise with her movements. She chooses exercises carefully, using movement to achieve specific goals. She is dedicated to her clients, in a manner that is inspiring and generates tremendous results. I love the brand new equipment in the Fitwise studio. The decor is bright and airy with a doomed ceiling to let in natural light. The classes are creative, and address different aged individuals. In a time where we are all looking to take a more pro-active position with our health, this studio, and what they teach, are so needed and welcome! This business is a shining example of the new age of movement medicine! Nice work. read more

I have full range of motion, walk without a limp, and have continued with Pilates because I LOVE it so much. FitWise Pilates has kept me sane and fit with safe, small, engaging reformer classes and private sessions outside on the porch during the past many months of WFH amidst covid sheltering!! WFH has enabled me to run over to have a great class during my long workday, which I could never do when commuting to work. Viewing the redwoods and breathing the crisp air while working hard and stretching/destressing in the varied sessions have truly been the best physical and mental therapy I could have hoped for during this time. After horribly screwing up my back at age 39, resulting in 2 discs being removed and a reconstruction to reconnect my back muscles (long ugly story), I have spent the last 11 years, building core strength and consciously working to improve my balance and symmetry. Knowing that I was tempting fate, I searched for a studio that valued Well educated & experienced instructors that could identify and focus on my issues. Every instructor at Fit Wise has exceeded my expectations!
