My…read morechildren have been swimming for the YMCA program, and took swim classes early on, and their coaching staff is spectacular. We have been members for 5 years- we have participated in the swim programs, soccer, summer camps, and worked out. Our situation recently changed as we had to move (further away from this ymca location), and our children are participating in their school extracurricular activities. We decided to cancel our membership for these reasons. The YMCA has a 30 day notice period for member cancellations, which is pretty standard. What is not standard is if you decide to cancel membership anytime between the 5th and the end of the month, you are forced to pay your entire membership fee for the following month - which, is not transparently shared in their paperwork or verbally at time of signup. Today is the 5th and I went in to cancel. I was told that I would owe the entire monthly dues for October, even though 30 days from now is October 5th. I asked why their policy did not allow for the October dues to be prorated to abide by their own "30 days notice policy". I received a smug response from the lady behind the counter that I had missed their "grace period", which occurs between the 2nd through the 4th of the month, by a near 12 hours to request our cancellation.

I thought the guy leading the workout did an excellent job of learning everyone's names and explaining the workout routine. In the beginning it felt like it was moving slow, but it was an introduction class - once we got the workout going, that changed! Lots of positive reinforcement, I had a great experience. I am extremely out of shape so entering these types of places is always a little embarrassing and i honestly know little to nothing of fitness or sports, my other attempts in life have consisted of me walking into a building, running on a machine, doing a few weights, quitting the next day and regretting spending my money. CrossFit Spartanburg honestly deserves a 5 star rating, the moment i walked in through the door i was greeted with smiles and positive attitudes, no one looked at me funny, humiliated me or even ignored me awkwardly. I was treated with as much respect as they treated each other, showered with tips on how to do the work outs along with being showed how to do them safely and properly, they set a routine for everyone and watch you closely, not to judge you but to see how you're doing and give you positive reinforcement, adjust your work out to you. Honestly even as challenged as i am athletically i look forward to the next time.
