Equinox Summit - Dirty towels all over the workout area

I have been going to this Equinox for the past 4.5 years, ever since we moved from Manhattan to the…read moreNew Jersey suburbs, and it's great. We were looking at a few different towns, but I'm glad we wound up in Summit because I love going to this gym. Pros (which are significant): - Like a typical Equinox, it's large, clean, and well-maintained, with all the usual amenities (including the chilled, eucalyptus-scented towels). They wipe down the mats well in between classes. - It's less crowded than the Manhattan locations I used to frequent. It's unusual to have to wait for equipment or a shower, etc. - The classes are great--and, honestly, the main reason to join Equinox (because if you need just a place to work out, there are cheaper options). I take practically everything (except spinning), and my favorite instructors include Kelsey, Michelle, and Jennifer. (John T. is also very good, but unlike the others, I think he still doesn't know my name, even though I've been doing his classes for years.) Renee does an excellent job overseeing the group-fitness program. - I haven't done much personal training here (it's expensive), but I did have a few good sessions with Marcus (and a friend of mine has been working happily with him for years now). - The Kids Club is a wonderful resource for parents. It's so nice to work out while someone watches your kids. It's $20 for two hours, but that's a bargain given the going rate for babysitting in Summit. - A while back, I complained about the lack of a juice/snack bar. Now they have one, courtesy of Essex Squeeze--and it's great! - I also previously mentioned the lack of built-in combination locks. Now they have them. Possible improvements (some admittedly minor, some not realistic): - I wish they had a larger stretching area or additional stretching areas; the one area they do have can get crowded. - They should check the treadmills more regularly to make sure they're in good working order; too frequently you'll encounter one that wobbles a little or makes weird noises. - A larger pool, heated to a higher temperature, would be nice. - The men's bathroom could use upgrading. There are only two stalls and two urinals. I wish the stall doors were the kind that went down to the floor and indicated whether the stall was occupied. They could also be cleaned more frequently. - I also wish they had some private all-gender bathrooms (like certain other Equinoxes). - Like every Equinox, they need to upgrade their toilet paper (Charmin Ultra Strong is the way to go). - I miss the old Kiehl's products. The Grown Alchemist cleanser doesn't lather or rinse off well, and its lotion doesn't get absorbed easily. (But replacing Kiehl's with Grown Alchemist was a company-wide decision.)

When I first checked out Equinox, I honestly wasn't sure about joining. My first interaction with…read morean associate wasn't very clear, so I left feeling a little unsure. On my second visit though, Elle helped me out--she was super kind and really convinced me to go for it. At first, scheduling personal training was a bit rocky since my original trainer (I think Joseph Marcantonio) canceled last minute. But then I got paired with Emily, and honestly she's the sweetest and most amazing trainer. She made me feel comfortable right away and helped me build my routine from scratch. Even with a couple of bumps at the beginning, I'm really glad I joined. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and overall the experience has been worth it.

For the past year or so, I've been looking for ways to make my life healthier. I tried running,…read moreand working out at home or with friends. I even tried a new up-and-coming Crossfit Gym in Parsippany. I loved the idea of the cross fit workouts. For someone who wasn't too active in a gym environment, I liked the concept. I ended up leaving that gym because of the Paleo lifestyle being shoved down my throat. I joined a Planet Fitness, But I wanted more cross fit! The big PF gym was boring, and I was wasting my money. After moving to East Hanover, I found a box right down the street, called Pump Crossfit & Performance. I was more than happy that Paleo isn't their main idea, and that they really listened to your needs, and worked on your level. The class times are great, and works well with my work schedule. Becca is a wonderful instructor, who know her stuff. I am taking the new Mommy Bootcamp class on Mondays, and I LOVE it. I work out with two other women, and Becca is able to tailor the workout for each of us individually, as we are all on different levels of experience. She never skips a beat, and the hour goes smoothly. When I leave Pump, I feel invigorated, and excited to come back. Becca always answers my questions thoroughly, and even gives me advice on home workouts when I can't make it in. It is really amazing how quickly my muscle is building, and I am becoming more comfortable in my own skin. I would highly recommend Pump to anyone who is ready to change their life, and get healthy. it's a friendly atmosphere, with professional trainers, and located conveniently.

I have been a member of Pump Crossfit and Performance for 8 months. I am 41 and have always been…read morerelatively active but would consider myself an average athlete. I have always worked out at the NYSC's of the world on my own but never got the results that I was looking for. I was looking for an experience where I could learn the proper way to train and challenge myself both mentally and physically. I definitely found the right place. It has been far and away the best training experience that I have ever been a part of. I have seen tremendous gains in strength, endurance, stamina and confidence and I look forward to going there every day. Scott Paltos has a tremendous wealth of knowledge in multiple training areas like track and field, gymnastics, weightlifting and strongman (also nutrition) and fosters a great team environment at the gym. Scott has the uncanny ability to train to ones strengths and weakness to help uncover one's untapped potential. Every workout is programmed differently so you will never do the same workout twice and you won't fall into any ruts. The entire staff of Dana, Becca, Mackenzie are all first class athletes, who are very knowledgeable and just good down to earth people! It's a fun place to train but you will work hard and you will "move weight" as Scott likes to say. Pump Crossfit and Performance has a broad range of members that cross all types of age and skill ranges (they even have separate classes for kids and another set for moms looking for something different) . The people that I have met in my time there are all very welcoming, friendly and willing to support everyone else in the box. Scott runs the gym as a family and its a great place to train. They offer training times at 6,7 and 9 am, 11am/12pm and 6 and 7pm on most days so you have many different opportunties to tailor classes around your schedule. Whether you are looking to join in competitions, to challenge yourself mentally/physically, to build your core strength or to just lose some weight.... this is the right place. I highly recommend giving it a shot!

While the box is fairly large, perhaps having smaller (yet more frequent) groups would allow the coaches to have a possibility to look after each athlete more carefully, ensuring the movement is correct and there's no risk of injury. With nearly 20 people on class that's virtually impossible... Another thing I missed-no cool-down after WOD..? My body is still hyper sensitive 3 days after the workout, whereas in my former club the whole group would do some mobility/stretching excercises in the end,to avoid sore muscles the day after. Sure, you get some time prior to the next class,to stay and stretch by yourself, but doing it all together with some supervision would surely benefit everyone. Last but not least-I find that it's important to ensure tidyness and cleanliness by providing some antibacterial spray and wiping cloths,to clean the weights after each person has used it for working out. I didn't notice any, whereas elsewhere we'd be forced into numerous burpees if someone would forget to clean after himself/herself. And yes, finally, the prices-we all know Crossfit isn't cheap, but anything beyond 200$ and still limiting you to 4 times per week? Or 300+ for unlimited membership, still binding you for at least 1 year? Thank you,but I'll have to look elsewhere...

Ann is extraordinary! She has a nurturing and calming nature that allows me to exercise with…read moreconfidence. Knowing she has my back and won't ask me to do more than I'm able at the moment is a huge benefit. I've worked with other trainers in the past and they have not shown half the level of care and professionalism that you get with Ann Pelino. If you want a private, custom experience, this is the place to go.

I've been working with Ann for over a year…read more Ann is a fantastic personal trainer. I've had continuous a personal trainer between 2003-2013, took a break between 2013 and 2015, but started working out with Ann in Nov 2015. In that steady decade of trainers, I worked with 6 trainers in that timeframe. Ann is among the best. To me the sign of a great personal trainer is their ability to adapt. An excellent personal trainer will still ensure you have a great work out if you sprain your ankle, have a pain point, or are bored with the same old activities. Injury: I recently sprained my ankle running; while we haven't been able to burn as many calories or get intense cardio in while I heal, we are still pushing those weights and keeping my upper body & core active. Pain Point: When I do have a pain point, I explain it to Ann and she 9 times out of 10 has a recommendation that helps to alleviate the issue almost immediately: for example, I occasionally have pain in my right knee - Ann will recommend specific foam rolling and the pain is gone. To me this demonstrates knowledge & expertise about the body that one can only get with a trainer who has been working with clients for a while. Variety: Given I've worked out with trainers for over a decade, I thought I had seen most workouts, activities, sets/reps, combination, etc. I had gotten to the point where trainers and the industry were simply renaming certain moves and I recognized it. I don't know where Ann gets her library of activities, but she will bring out a new move that combines actions and my brain LOVES the challenge! I just have to tell her I'd like to "change it up" and she instantly has us doing new moves. Ann helps keep me motivated; she often will text me just to make sure I get the workouts between sessions we discussed. We thoughtfully discuss her recommendations for working out between sessions. She always asks about my nutrition and has suggestions that help. I'm losing weight, but what's better I FEEL healthy. I'm so much more active again. I've started working out twice a day. I am able to run around before and after working out, taking care of chores with far more energy... the biggest thing is a return to a more active lifestyle: enjoying my passion for hiking and doing 1K foot mountains in a morning with friends and now I'm running 5Ks - considering a 10K & 1/2 marathon in 2017. A lot of that is my personal motivation, but Ann HELPS me and SUPPORTS me. I've been a client since November 2015 and I will continue being a client. I see her a minimum of twice a week.
