Seeing the average rating I wasn't expecting to be blown away, but we were impressed!…read more We came on a Monday afternoon for late lunch. It was really easy to find street parking since most places were closed, and the restaurant wasn't crowded. The inside is cool with interesting decor - true to its name, it has a garage theme with some fun decorations. The waitress was incredibly sweet, friendly, professional, and serviceable. She was extremely attentive and went out of her way to proactively offer everything we needed - even taking the time to explain the different (homemade) hot sauces to us. One of my dining companions got a strawberry margarita with a chili rim, which the server explained used their housemade tajin-like blend. Good flavor to the drink. They had a large menu of cocktails and mocktails, and half priced basic ("broke") margs on Mondays. Looking at the menu, it was really hard to decide because they had so many great options. We started with the fried avocado which were DELIGHTFUL. Our whole table loved them. Not greasy at all, well seasoned. The outsides were perfectly crispy and inside was like biting into guacamole. A really fun menu option. I went with the cauliflower tacos, and they were perfect. The cauliflower was cooked perfectly, crisp but light and not greasy. All of the flavors and textures were evenly balanced. I'm not the hugest fan of cilantro but I didn't even detect it. I thought that the prices were a little high initially but two tacos (+ a side of choice) was PLENTY. The flavor and quality was top notch, and we were all really full and satisfied. I tried a bite of someone else's fish tacos and they were BOMB. Might have to order those next time. This was really a five star experience all around, and we were all already talking about returning in the future even though it's a drive for all of us.

Food was absolutely delicious, service was peak, and the ambience is quiet during the day. Some of…read morethe best food in this town, come here!!

Tapatios was my family's Mexican restaurant of choice growing up, so my review is a little biased…read morein that I have the nostalgia glasses on when I eat here. That being said, I think it's fully decent food, if not totally authentic Mexican. Lots of variety on the menu. I mostly eat vegetarian, and they have a good number of vegetarian options, but I do really like their seafood dishes. I don't think anything on the menu is totally vegan as-is, but you could probably make some of the vegetarian specials vegan by requesting no cheese. The food is tasty and I would say well-prepared even if the presentation isn't always fancy. It does tend to be salty. If you like cheese, any of the cheese-based dishes like cheese enchiladas or chiles poblanos will delight because they are very cheesy. Their chips and salsa are great - the chips always come out warm and the salsa is simple but fresh. First batch of chips and salsa are complimentary and refills are pretty cheap, but one basket is sufficient for us. I tried the "Cinco de Melón" margarita this time, a frozen watermelon margarita with lots of Tajin. It was a good margarita - I really liked the spicy Tajin with the watermelon, and the drink was appropriately strong. Always friendly service and fun atmosphere. In my experience the service is almost never slow. The waitress on our last visit was actually a little too attentive; it felt like she was coming by every few minutes while we were eating to ask if we needed anything, but definitely better too much than too little. I've visited some other Mexican-American restaurants in the area in the past few years and it seems to me that the quality and degree of "authenticity" at Tapatios is comparable to similar places, so my family continues to come here because of proximity and familiarity.

As luck would have it, it was Binghamton Restaurant Week and we attempted a walk in - first available was three+ hours later - but the hostess mentioned we could get the RW menu at the bar and two seats were calling. Lots of choices on the menu but friend and I ended up having the same meal! Cup of Cauliflower, potato and leek soup to start was yummy - very comforting, not too thick, good flavor - I could have stopped here! But fortunately did not! Main was spectacular! Salmon with everything bagel spices served over pearl couscous in a risotto style was inspired (honestly, I will try this at home)! I hope this is a menu regular because I will crave this for many more meals! Add a black Manhattan and this meal is a treat! (Took the dessert course to go - blueberry cronuts were better than chocolate but both likely suffered a wee bit from loss of ambiance and slight steaming that occurred on drive - good for sure but did not compare to the rest of the meal). Shout out to Tommy F for exceptional service - attentive but not intrusive. Ambiance is lovely (the lighting dimmed as we sat - hysterical) but we also scored the most comfortable seats in the house (I hate a high top stool with no back and no padding on the seat - those stools look nice but should go away). Also love the hook under the bar.

I think it was Lauren, she was nice enough but did not go above and beyond for her customers. She did not want to move us to a more comfortable table, despite our requesting multiple times and the place was literally empty. Finally she was able to make it happen but it was already unpleasant. She was good with bringing us hot waters with lemon as requested, but there was zero proactiveness to refill the hot water or any of the iced water. It was like us going out and trying to please the waitstaff. She did make a good suggestion for the lavender gimlet cocktail. Overall disappointing.
