Church Health YMCA - Wanna see the health of my church?

I enjoy the locker's keypads instead of holes for a traditional locks. This is nice because I end up losing my locks a lot. Overall, great little gym in a nice area. I love getting a workout in while I visit the Crosstown Concourse.

If they are always asking for money, then either your Church Health is bad, or your Church Head is greedy. Or both. One of the better YMCA facilities I have found anywhere in the country with a shiny brand-new locker room and a lot of really shiny brand new things. They have cool combination lock concepts and it is actually very easy to use, and there are about 7,000 sets of instructions posted all over the locker room just in case you forget the very simple straightforward way of locking it up - as opposed to Louisville where they have lockers that basically just lock your stuff away and never give them back until you call the manager to come and let you in. Anyway I was happy that they had a cable machine even though it wasn't the best one. There is no chest exercise machine but they had a little bit of everything else and even though they're using a cheaper not-so-great company to provide the equipment it hardly ever gets used to it's all in very good working condition for the most part. The weights are the kind that I don't really like but at least nobody is hardly ever using them, and they're in front of the mirror and they have a few benches here so I'd say the gym has done pretty well for itself. I think it's a fantastic facility that just needs some more people to come and join to keep it going and justify all the good stuff they have here. One of the thing that it needs though is better parking. It's so hard to find parking out here, and then a long walk to the door and up the steps to get into the facility. Better to use the elevator if you're carrying a lot or not great at walking. It also has ridiculously friendly employees and I really appreciate that. They were extremely nice to me and I would definitely come back and use this particular YMCA in future especially considering that parking is free here if you can actually find it, whereas it's expensive downtown. Somewhere between 4 and 5, but I'll go with 5 because they're so nice and more people should be members.

InsideOut is a cool gym. It's small and hidden, but I think members enjoy that about it…read more I visited once for a tour and another time on a guest pass to try out a TRX class. The gym was very clean, staff was welcoming, and you tell that folks really get to know each other. The TRX class was amazing! I think the instructor adjusted a bit for having a few newbies (which really pissed off one of the regulars. She groaned and complained for half the class... seriously) but that didn't mean it was easy. TRX classes are normally pretty pricey, so it's cool that members can attend these classes, along with yoga, spinning, rowing, and Zumba without paying additional fees. My cons are the size, weekend hours, and variety of classes. The gym is pretty small. I need a bit more room and maybe a sauna or pool. Also, the weekend hours are very condensed and I don't think I'm their target demographic with the classes offered. I'm more into HIIT, boot camp, and barre classes than spinning and rowing, which take up a big chunk of their class schedule. Classes must also be scheduled in person through sign up sheets and members can't register or cancel online. Overall, it's not for me, but I would recommend folks checking this place out. It's got a great central location and lots to offer if you're looking for a welcoming community.

It's a small gym. A small gym means personal attention, people who know your name, accountability!!! It also means having to sign up for classes (which I don't mind, since it makes you accountable), and less equipment and space. When I signed up, I asked questions. I asked about busy times, I asked about slow times. I made sure that they would have equipment and space available to me when I needed it. I don't just sign up for gym memberships and not go...I have been at different hours on different days. I have never had a problem finding a piece of equipment to use. They have kettle bells, and machines, and medicine balls. They have small stretching rooms with foam rollers and ab rollers. I don't think there is anything that I lack in this gym. If you need a lot of space (for whatever reason), you would know that this is not the place for you when you walk in the door. BUT it's definitely bigger than you think it is. There are plenty of small rooms, and they will let you bring the weights into the small rooms if you would like :-) I think the most important thing you can take from this review...ask questions. Make sure you find the right gym for you!! Whatever that may be!

Well, I wish there was a way to review individual shows, but I guess that doesn't make sense since…read morethe productions are temporary. So, I will comment on the venue itself up here and place a block below for specific shows and will update that block whenever I see a new one! I'll put the run dates in the title line so you know whether or not to pay attention to it. Venue Review My wife and I absolutely love live theater and I think we've been to most of the theater venues in Memphis. We've seen many productions at the Playhouse on the Square and it is just a fabulous place to see a play, or even the ballet. It is not a huge venue so when I say, "There isn't a bad seat in the house." that is dead on. The seating is comfortable. The facilities are clean. The staff is always nice. And the productions are always top-notch! One thing about Playhouse and its surrounding theaters is the pricing for their shows is usually very reasonable compared to the competing theater across town. We always come in from the North, down Central and usually, we park in the parking garage near the square itself. This last time it was raining and we noticed there is actually a parking lot on the East side of the building! It is a nice parking lot and it is, of course, a much shorter walk than the walk from the garage! However, if you plan to eat before or after a show, the garage might be a better choice. Production Reviews Below Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - 1/19-2/18/2024 I am a HUGE fan of the 1971 film, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder (who isn't, right?). I think we all would like to forget the 2005 remake of the story with J. Depp, so to say I'm dubious when it comes to the treatment of this story is probably an understatement. Knowing I am such a fan of this story, my wife surprised me with tickets to this show. I've never seen it done live and I was excited but trepidatious because some of the stuff I loved about the 1971 movie, the special effects, the sets, just couldn't be duplicated on a live stage. That said, because I knew that going, in I was a bit forgiving and might have been a little excited to see how they adapted it. I was not disappointed one bit! Of course, the main storyline was the same, but there were nuances of modernization. The names of the children were the same and the core of their bad behavior too. However, their backstories and the style of their ultimate demises were slightly different. I won't give critical details away as I don't want to spoil it for you, but just as an example, Mike Teevee's problem is still sitting in front of a screen too much, but his addiction is to the Internet and video games rather than classic television. Clever. The young star of the show, Drake Shehan, was incredible and an absolute delight to watch! The young man could sing, and dance, and his acting quality was that of someone 10 years his senior! The rest of the cast was great as well, just a super ensemble. This was one of the best shows we've seen at Playhouse and they did a fantastic job of adapting this to the stage. You have a little more than a week to catch this and you should before it is gone!

Then check out Fit4Mom-Memphis. No babysitter required. No cute outfits mandatory (nope not even a shower you don't have time for) though you will likely acquire them as your body begins to get healthier. Classes I've attended have been in the morning and I've been to the TransforMama studio and Shelby Farms Park classes as well as Overton square for either stroller barre or stroller strides (both of which have effectively put me back in my pre-mom jeans). I didn't even break a sweat (just kidding!). But truly though, I didn't notice breaking that sweat because I was surrounded by women doing what we needed to be for not only ya but also our kiddos. The classes follow a comfortable pace cardio for any skill level then an interval of a certain muscle group followed by songs during to keep the babies and toddlers cheering you on and themed classes per the season. I've met so many new friends and keep meeting more all the time. Impromptu play groups for the well behaved or naughty babes after class so they can interact and make friends too. I HIGHLY recommend getting involved with this impressive congregation of momma sharks (only some of which have rockin abs- don't be Intimidated!). Some days the ab moms walk instead of run too- because let's face it. Motherhood is just like that sometimes. This tribe of women is here for you- all ya gotta do is show up(and not even on time!)
