I honestly didn't really know what to expect, other than being told "It's a workout in a sauna..." Let me just say that I got my butt absolutely kicked at Hotworx! We did pilates and then a 15 min stationary bike session....all inside of a 130° infrared room. I felt so incredibly good afterwards that I realized I 100% needed to add this to my routine when I get back home. I highly suggest that everyone who is thinking about giving Hotworx a try stops thinking about it and does it! You will not be disappointed! I also just wanted to give a shout-out to Riley* (hope I spelled her name correctly) who was absolutely amazing! She got me all set up, was so beyond thoughtful, and really made me feel super comfortable despite being a noob to the whole experience. I mean she heard some guy from Los Angeles was coming in and changed the music so I didn't have to listen to country while we worked out LOL. People who go above and beyond, like Riley did, are the ones in this life who deserve tons of recognition for the high quality humans that they are. Thank you, again!! They have gear for everyone, except the hardcore powerlifter (meaning no 100 lb plates, jack racks, platforms, bar jack for deadlift loading, competition bench, or chalk stand.) They DO have squat racks, Smith machines, flat and incline benches, a range of dumbbells up to 140 lbs, and an array of basic HammerStrength machines. The bonus for me is that they have FreeMotion machines, which are the bomb for plane-and-range-of-motion training. They've also got assorted tubing, medicine and stability balls, and Bosus. In case someone from DAC reads this, it would be super-cool if you could install a TRX rack or two. Approximately half the work-out space is devoted to cardio machines, and there's an upstairs where classes are held. I always thought DAC was great for families. It's located at Cox Park where the baseball and soccer fields are. So, it's convenient if the family is involved in those activities as well. However, they do not have a pool; nor do they have a sauna, steam or whirlpool. No big deal for me, but some people demand those things.

I posted a Facebook comment on the gym's FB page congratulating one of the instructors who was graduating and moving away. I actually congratulated that individual on his accomplishment, but I also commented that maybe we would see more classes offered taught by one of their most loved instructors. Fairly immediately, my comment was liked by others (positive feedback), but then quickly deleted by management. The following day, I sent a private message. The owner (Butch) contacted me and asked that I give him a call. Apparently, I didn't phone him quick enough, so then I got a threatening message saying my membership would be terminated if I didn't call by the end of the week. I'VE ATTACHED SCREENSHOTS OF THE CONVERSATION. He is a coward who doesn't accept CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. He is unable to separate his emotions from running a business. He flat out refuses to put a suggestion box in the gym for anonymous feedback. Instead, he claims to rather have feedback given to him verbally or in-person. As you can imagine, not everyone is comfortable providing feedback in that manner. Take it from me though, if you want to work out at this gym, don't provide any feedback unless it's 100% positive. Anything less and he'll cancel your membership. ‍ I've also been told he canceled someone's membership for commenting that the new hire instructors were not qualified. On the subject of instructors, there are only 2 instructors worth going to and they are very rarely scheduled (I'm happy to provide their names if you want to contact me). The rest are simply former kickboxing members turned instructor who have no real qualifications and terrible music selection for a high-intensity workout! Try the Quince or midtown locations -- more qualified instructors and better management who actually LISTEN to their members!

I have periodically participated in CrossFit for the last 3 years or so. I am a great example of…read morewhat not to do when it comes to fitness...6 months on, 6 months off, with a couple of intermittent running injuries in there. :-) ANYway, I walked into CrossFit Triad for the first time the Friday after Thanksgiving. After participating in 3 other crossfit boxes in Houston and in Memphis, I can say that the people working out at Crossfit Triad were some of the nicest people I have found in the crossfit environment. I have rarely had a problem with a Crossfit coach in my 3 years of crossfitting being rude or unwelcoming, but it has always been the people participating have always presented a challenge. There is always an intimidation factor. But the folks at Triad have seriously put together some of the nicest of people. If you are a first timer, or someone who has done Crossfit before but found it intimidating because of the people in the classes, Triad is a great place to go!! People are so great and encouraging! Coming back after an injury (this time around) has been challenging, but the people at Triad have made the transition pretty simple.

She ended up throwing up a few times. We got so much attitude and nasty looks from a couple of the instructors there. Kendyll was definitely the most rude. Might be a good place to go if you're already slim or fit. Not a great place to go for people like me, people who just got back into working out. I experienced an extremely unwelcoming culture to plus size people which is odd for a gym. At first I thought maybe I was imagining the rudeness being directed towards us but by the end of the event it was clear. Additionally, they took sooo many photos throughout the event of us working out. Me and my friend were literally the only people excluded from the photos they posted. The only photo I was in was a group photo. SHED reported my review to Yelp and they took down my original review citing that I wasn't actually at this event. I'm posting a PHOTO that matches my Yelp photo of myself at this event. There were snacks and drinks (smoothie king & Celsius) inside but that doesn't make up for the treatment. I also reported this to lululemon who sent me a personal apology to my email so shout out to them.
