After a nice meal next store at Dreams Breakfast and Lunch in the same building my wife and I ventured into Fiske's General Store. It was like stepping back into my childhood. It was like walking into the G.C. Murphy's store in the town I grew up in western PA in the 1970's. The blend of modern and classic toys is well thought out. I imagine the children of Holliston, MA are lucky to have such a nice place to visit in their own back yard. The owners are very nice people and I enjoyed just chatting as we patronized the well storied store. It's been a stable of the community since 1863. Look for the heart on the floor. It has a beautiful story surrounding it. My wife was drawn in to the store by the easel sign outside the store advertising Pokémon cards. Any grandparents who have preteen and teenage grandchildren know what that is. Even more enjoyable and impressive was the proprietor's knowledge of all things Pokémon! I know nothing about such things myself. As well as the toys there is a really nice selection of candy to select from. Some, that took me back to my youth again as well! We purchased a nice supply of candy and a few educational toys for our 2 year old granddaughter, and some Pokémon cards for our grandsons. They also have a charming display of big time pictures of customers who found valuable Pokémon cards in their packs of cards. As, well as lovely pictures that show how proud of grandparents they are! It's worth a visit again for sure! The real value of this store is the Owners! They are the real Gems !! PRICELESS! read more

Fiske's is fantastic! There's tons of great things for kids - books, games, costumes, toys, etc. - all very unusual and creative. And lots of things adults can use too - some clothes like sweaters, t shirts, cards for all types of events. The owners, John and Carol Paltrineri, are wonderful hosts and almost like family. Super impressed with this great store in Holliston. Located on Routes 16 & 126, in the center of town, with an amazing supply of everything. So many toys, gift ideas, candy, school / office supplies, art materials: crafts, painting, etc, etc, as well as historical stuff too. The man at the front counter was super friendly, and came over to ask if I was looking for anything as well as greeted me when I stopped in, which is uncommon these days. The products were all super cool, and not ridiculously overpriced like small shops. There was a good selection of items, and they had good stock of everything. I would definitely return, and will be for the holidays, as well as gifts of any sort. Highly suggested. read more

My 6 year son wanted Pokémon cards and the owner John was so patient explaining the cards to both my son and I. He offered recommendations that were budget friendly and steered us away from more expensive options. His passion for all cards was evident and we learned a lot and got a host of great cards. Fiske's General Store is PURE MAGIC. Mr John was the reason we moved to Holliston. When looking for a new home we fell in love with the charm and hear that this town center and Fiske's embodies. Our family loves to make trips there, and always have a great time exploring their thoughtful selection, from toys, gifts, home goods, and treats. Plus their Pokemon trading events are super amazing for the kids to engage and connect with other Pokemon-ers in the community. read more

My family loves this shop. We shop there mostly for birthday presents for children's birthday parties. My daughter calls it the "squishy store". They sell a good collection of the swishy animals she likes. They have a great selection of toys and games that are fun and educational. Everything we have purchased has been of great quality. All of the staff that have helped us have been so nice and helpful. Every time! Highly recommend this local gem! read more

What a great old fashioned store! The gift shop has so many choices . Their Lego prices are great! I picked up 6 sets for birthday gifts. I was so happy to have this in town. Parking is tough and that's why I gave it 4 stars, but really it's such a fantastic old school New England gift shop. There sea salt caramels are so good! And you get one free with your purchase! How delightful. It's so refreshing not having to deal with the crowds of a larger store. read more

Fiske's is fantastic! Everyone who grew up in Holliston, Massachusetts remembers getting candy from their front counter, buying art supplies from the large Arts & Crafts room, or keeping their supply of beanie babies flowing. The store is right in the center of the town, located at the main intersection (by the one blinking, yellow light). It's so old-fashioned and has its own charm. It's just as important as the library and the town hall. Long live Fiske's! read more

Just a lovely place! The owner John was so kind to my kids and me. He gave us all kinds of candy samples and they were delicious! The store itself is an eclectic mix stuff - arts and crafts, party supplies, toys, puzzles, greeting cards and all sorts of unique stuff like gourmet foods and candies, clothing, lotions, etc. John has operated this store since the 1970s but it's been in existence since the 1800s. I have loved this store since I was a little kid. Now I take my own child here and she loves it just as much. There is so much to look at and majority surrounding education and creativity. She has made friends with John (the owner) and always wants to pop in to say hi. He knows his stuff and truly caters to each individual. He makes going in even better because he knows what you are looking for when you don't and always gives a piece if delicious candy with every purchase. I hope this store is around for many more generations to enjoy and be excited about. read more

LOVE THIS STORE!!! Okay so we were going to look at some dresses in Holliston for my upcoming elopement this Sunday. We were way too early and decided to poke around Holliston. We found this great General Store, full of crafty things! We bought tons of things for the wedding and some inexpensive but really cute jewelry. We were not dissapointed with the finds in this shop and they have an extensive toy section (we are sans kiddies so we skipped that area.) The service was amazing with some really great conversations with the owner and we think his wife. Here's the topper though! I bought a little spool of orange thread. It cost barely $3. We must have packed up in hurry to get to our dress appointment because in the middle of the appointment the bell rang at the dress shop. In comes the spool of orange thread! The owner drove to the dress shop to make sure that we had the thread for our wedding. THANK YOU!!! read more

The owners are so incredibly nice. They give kids balloons on their bday (and sometimes just because). 2x we stopped by past closing and he opened the store back up so my daughter could pick out a toy. And she picked out something for $7 and he saw she was using her own money and only charged her $5. Definitely support this local shop!! read more

This is one of those quintessential reminders that the New England I grew up with is still around. It evolves over time, but is still what one would think of as a general store in the modern era, filling in the gaps of specialty stores in the area. I swung by here for gift wrap since there was nowhere else around on the way home via Route 16 from Milford beyond the drug stores. It has a number of general gifts for the browser, though not necessarily unique items to the area. It fills needs of the area around it, and therefore is what it advertises to be. The place has children running around on a rainy day, looking for activities to do (and snacks to nosh on), and the place obliges with a decent selection of educational games, puzzles, and arts and crafts supplies, a scene I miss seeing in this day of electronics. It may not be a place for tourists to find the best in local artisan crafts, but it certainly fulfills its purpose. The interior is expansive in terms of size, and the high ceilings keep the sensation of the store from feeling too cluttered. If you have a sweet tooth, be wary, as that is one category that this store has a very extensive selection in, in terms of local gift goods and nostalgic favorites. The service is warm, though I am not a local. It's nice to know that there are places like this are still around to give that sensation that life can slow down enough to be enjoyed at a comfortable pace. read more

Fiske's is quintessential small town America...when I was growing up, there were stores like this wherever you went. Unfortunately corporate chains have pushed stores like this out of existence in most places, a fact which makes me appreciate Fiske's that much more. I visit the store at least once month with my kids, and it never disappoints! read more

One of the cutest little New England-y stores I've been to in a while. They have really nice crafts in addition to the old fashioned candy and products. Prices are a bit on the expensive side though. Every time I enter Fiske's (probably 2-3 times a week), I hear the theme music from Cheers playing in my head. I love Fiske's and the people who work there. They are just always so happy to be doing what they're doing, and happy to help me find what I'm looking for....whether it's for a birthday party or my latest craft project. The prices are definitely a bit higher than Target or AC Moore, but I don't mind paying because it is a small local business, it's more convenient, and it's service with a smile. read more

My family and I are huge supporters of local businesses and would rather pay a slightly higher price to keep the local stores in business. I had been to Fiskes last year with a friend who had grown up there and had many great childhood memories of time spent in Fiskes. This past weekend, my husband and I took our 2 year old son there and looked around. I can't say how VERY DISAPPOINTING it was. The owner who I remember as very friendly was so rude to both my husband and I as he made numerous comments to us each separately about our son. My son was not being wild or loud but he was being two, he was curious to touch the toys and excited at all of the different toys at HIS eye level. This store is set up for kids to enjoy and parents to buy - however that was not the feeling the owner portrayed. He told my son not to touch the horse that was on the ground because if he broke it Daddy would have to buy it. We are responsible parents and if our son broke something of course we would pay for it so no need for your passive aggressive warnings. Mind you the horse is not where an adult would stop and look at it, its where a CHILD would look at it...on the floor. I was at the cash register buying some items and the first thing the owner says to me is that my son will have to be put in handcuffs soon - I looked at him thinking he was joking and realized too late that he was actually insulting us AGAIN. Meanwhile my son is in my husbands arms not doing anything. I still foolishly paid for the items when instead I should have walked out. He took the toy that we were buying for my son out of his hands and put it on the counter with another passive aggressive remark and after we walked out of the store and both felt terrible we compared notes and realized that the owner has said these rude things to us both separately and that was why we were leaving this store so unsettled. Not to mention the candy I bought turned out to be expired. Its a great store with many great toys and trinkets in it but seems to be more of a museum with a tribute to the past. Needless to say we will NEVER shop here again because of the rude service. Maybe it was because we were not locals? read more
