This weekend I went with my family for the first time to FishBones. My first impression was that it was a very beautifully designed restaurant. We then got seated, and the waiter came and went over the money (he was nice but explained the menu way too much that it got confusing). We ordered the fried calamari as the appetizer and the entrees were the fried shrimp and chicken combo, shrimp tempura sushi, and mahi mahi. It was super pricey so my expectations were high. When the food came around and hour later we were starving so we dug in. HOW DISAPPOINTING, my poor mom ate her fish only to make us feel like she was enjoying her dinner. When we got home she told me the truth. It was the worst fish she had ever had. The portion was so small and although the fries were good the whole plate was not worth $30. The sushi was ok but not worth the price because it was so simple (kinda like Publix Sushi). The fried shrimp had absolutely no flavor. The Calamari was overfried (I'm not sure if that's a thing but it was way to crunchy and tasted just like the shrimp (They tasted like NOTHING). My sister ordered the steak and my boyfriend tried it and they said it was good...but the place is called Fishbones and the seafood sucked...honestly for the price you are paying to eat at Fishbones go to a Chilis the quality of the food is better and the price is decent. If you are a foodie like me, find a better seafood restaurant and don't waste your time at Fishbones. read more

This was fantastic. Jordan was our server and he was the best ever!!!! The food was excellent. Two of us ordered the fried shrimp which had a light saltine batter. Hubby had the salmon and bil had the mahi-mahi. Everyone loved their meal. Not inexpensive but worth the price. The service was so superb we would come back even if the food had been so-so. Not what it used to be. Food is just ok now and used to be fabulous. I have been a patron of this restaurant since they opened, but have not been in several years. It was my fathers birthday so we decided that Fishbones would be a nice place to celebrate. First they didn't have a table to seat us (@ 5:15?) so we had to settle for a booth or wait for a table. The food was just average. I ordered the Hawaiian Trigger fish which the waitress said was nice and flaky. Swore it was Tilapia ( hate Tilapia very grainy texture in my opinion). Someone else at the table ordered the lamb chops medium, they came well done. Dang bang shrimp appetizer is not what it used to be either, they now cut the shrimp up into smaller bits in order to stretch the scrimp and the sauce that used to cover the shrimp is now used to top it. Just not they enjoyable experience we used to have and definitely not worth the price you pay. Sorry for the bad review, but you all need to get back to the way you used to serve clients or bring back your old chef and kitchen staff. read more

Great place for dinner. The food was excellent and there was a wide variety to choose from...seafood, steaks, lamb chops and even ribs. As a disclaimer, I have only ever been here for their happy hour and as a result, have only ordered gel that menu for food and from the drink menu. Disclaimer aside, I have to give this place 5 stars! The prices on the happy hour menu really make this place worth it, both for seafood and sushi. Not to mention, the happy hour menu is pretty extensive! This is not like the Applebee's half off appetizer menu people, this is a serious steal! Unless of course, you're like me and order everything in sight! On one occasion I sat outside in their patio, which was very nice and breezy on the day I went (not always the case in FL, so be mindful of that). On another I sat inside the restaurant, which has some low lighting and a fair sized dining area. They have a really cool bar and sitting area there as well, which is where I sat this most recent time. I went with a dirty martini, and also had some oysters and sushi rolls. The oysters and fish tasted fresh and the server was very attentive. It's difficult to make the happy hour timing sometimes but I would absolutely say it's worth the effort. read more

I had to travel to Central Florida for business. FishBones is right next to my client's hotel so we choose to dine there. Everything I had was good. I ordered the crab cakes, calamari, sushi, the stuffed shrimp and scallops, and the chocolate bomb.My favorites out of that group was the crab cake because it was more crab then the breaded substance it was made of and it wasn't dry it didn't even need the mango salsa it came with. I liked the sushi roll we order which consisted of shrimp tempura, cream cheese, and eel sauce. Lastly, I liked the stuffed shrimp and scallops. As soon as the waiter seated us he asked what was our reason for dining at FishBones and we said business. Five minutes later their GM sent us complimentary soup. So I suggest if your going there mention that you are there for business...lol. When I come back to the Central Florida area for business I will go back there and I will suggest FishBones to my colleagues. read more

Sadly, I wanted to write about a less than steller first time experience at your restaurant, at the Lake Mary, Florida location. We had heard good things about the restaurant and were anxious to try it, so we saved it for my Mother-In Laws birthday dinner. My husband made reservations in advance for 7:30. We arrived early, hearing that there was a patio to grab drinks. We checked in beforehand, so that they knew we were there--and where we could be found should the table be ready. As we checked in, they said that they were way behind even for reservations, by 45 minitues...which as it turned out was an understatement. We grabbed drinks and an appetizer on the patio, but that took forever as it was nearly impossible to locate a staff member, who wasn't trying to avoid eye contact. Once we found someone, the drinks and music were good. To make a long story short, we kept checking for an update, as we had a 7 year old with us for the dinner. We didn't end-up getting seated until 8:40. They apologized and I reminded them that this was a birthday reservation. They wrote something down and said that they would absolutely let our waiter know. Well...it never did get acknowledged ever. Our wait for food also took a long time, despite ordering as soon as we sat, since we had had hours prior to decide what to eat. We ultimately did not leave until 10:30. My 7 year old actually fell asleep at the table. Overall, we could not have been more disappointed. It took a special dinner birthday celebration and made us feel like we had to apologize to my mother in law for the outcome. Not the best since we spent nearly $300! read more

I love this place. I find a reason to come to Lake Mary once a year (from Chicago) only to eat at this place for the past 5 years. The place is beautiful. The food is great and fresh. I have always experienced top notch service. I usually order a grilled whole fish w orzo side. It's very good. The drink menu looks amazing; though I didn't try. I will have to say I did notice a cost cutting effort. With my fish, they used to give me half a lemon wrapped in cloth so the seeds don't drop into you food. Now they just give a plain slice of lemon. But that's a small thing for me. read more

Went for our anniversary dinner, i have been to fishbones several times in the past 3 years always a great dining experience but something has gone very wrong with the place. We were seated in a large room and were only 2 couples there and then they seated a party of 4 right up against us . Im not trying to be petty but the whole large room was available and it was a week night. The usual great service was fair. I ordered an entre a scampi with crab, well no crab, had to send it back, my wife ordered broiled mahi, cold in the center, didnt order sushi ordered broiled mahi, Waited 15 min no waitress while i was finishing my meal my wife waited. Finally a manager showed up. Offered to comp my wifes fish, they cut it in half and cooked it for her. The "seasonal premiere " Vegtables were steamed broccoli with long stringy stems. And for bread we were given a roll to with no butter to share. Had to wait and ask for drink refills. Overall we didnt let it get us down but for 103 dollars i expected a little more. Guess Im used to places like applebees or longhorn service but we went for the occasion and ambience. read more

I am kicking myself for not having read the reliable Yelp reviews on this place first. This place is horrible. I wish I could give a negative star. Went there last night, 9/23/17, around 6 p.m. First thing I noticed were the tables the were not bussed. We sat at the bar. Female bartender was very unimpressive. Took forever to get any drinks and no water. We ordered an appetizer called "Blue Chips"- turned out to literally be Wise potato chips with some cheese. Com'on man. However, even those took over 45 minutes. A guy in a suit and tie named Miles came out to apologize for the significant delays in getting our "potato chips" but offered nothing more and they were never compensated. He was also apologizing to the people next to us who were also complaining about delays and quality of food. Took another 1- 1.5 hours for our entrees. My entree, Pacific Mahi Mahi with jerk seasoning, was cold and I had to send back. Miles came out again and served the replacement. This one was at least lukewarm but no "jerk seasoning" per the menu description. The waitress brought me some pepper. Bottom line the fish was an un-seasoned lump of nothing and I could not eat it. This fish was not removed from the bill either. The bill was somewhere around $85 without the tip. Should have taken a match to the money before I came in. I would have felt better. Very bad experience and very bad restaurant. Will never ever return to Fish Bones Lake Mary. read more

This place one was a excellent place to eat seafood and steak. Since I have not come to this restaurant for the last two years his restaurant become not a good restaurant to eat at. Tonight I have the chance to experience the bad service and the bad food. The music was excellent but plate I got to eat with are dirty and the lemon on for my water are old lime wedged. The oysters I had are small and all have after taste. This restaurant once was one of my favorites restaurant to have oysters and sushi but this have been not the same like two years ago that I have experienced. Well after going to fishbones for about 10 years we will no longer be going. We were informed that in order to eat during happy hour we each had to order a beverage. Well we have never in 10 years been required to do so. We even informed the forgetful waiter that he had been our waiter on two of the occasions we had dined there. Funny he forgot because we are amazing tippers. They go through managers like water. So not so shocking that even the manager informed us that has always been there policy. Well we weren't lying that we have never been forced to purchase drinks to purchase the overpriced food of which we normally order a table full. Wow you can afford to treat patrons as expendables. How petty. Enjoy Your Empty table over a drink that costs you less than 2 cents to make when you would have had a bountiful dinner of regular menu items and appetizers for a table of 6. We have been going to this location since it opened. Before coming here, we frequently visited their sister location Charley's on Orange Blossom Trail. We have always enjoyed the ribeye and would recommend to our friends/family to order this steak. However, on our recent visit we were disappointed with the quality of this steak. We could tell immediately that this was a different type of steak and they must have changed suppliers. If they are going to increase pricing, at least keep the same quality meat. Now, we can get this type of steak anywhere and for cheaper. read more

Recently dined at Fishbones in Lake Mary and the disappointment was overwhelming. What is going on here? This used to be a wonderful dining experience! Party of six: Appetizers - ordered soup, gator tail, escargot, Shrimp Tempura. Received in this order: Soup for one guest - Outstanding flavor and good value. 4 minutes later gator tail for table -Cold to lukewarm, not hot. Over 1/2 were pieces the size of an eraser on top of a pencil. Sauce extraordinarily sweet and cloying. Calamari delivered. We did not order Calamari. Removed 5 minutes after the gator tail arrived the Escargot, twelve minutes after soup. Hot and stayed hot. Delicious. Asked for additional toasted bread was told we can get two more pieces but there would be a charge for more. Ridiculous. Asked for bread without cheese: Sorry we don't have bread without cheese. Then I ask what was served with the escargot? What never arrived with the appetizers was the Shrimp Tempura. Forgotten. Salads arrive - as we are eating the salads the forgotten Shrimp Tempura arrives. Now my entree - I enjoy a nice duck with crispy skin. I got a nice duck with crispy skin, precisely 1/2 a duck . A whole half of one duck. Not quartered but 1 whole half a duck. After attacking it with a steak knife and wrestling a few pieces of meat from the carcass, and considering the delays in the serving of the appetizers I definitely did not want to send it back to be quartered. So, to the amusement of the rest of my guests, I took the duck in my hands and proceeded to half nelson the duck, removing the leg and wing so I could get to the meat. I did go and wash my hands for those of you concerned I was going to continue with a Medieval Times Dining experience. Overall, disappointing and overpriced. We had a reservation and were on time. We waited 15 minutes before I had to get up and go to the hostess stand to ask for a server. The server promptly came over and apologized that she was in the back because the table next to us had their appetizer order screwed up (probably shouldn't have told us that). We ordered appetizers which consisted of grilled artichokes (excellent), table made cocktail shrimp (never told us it was the normal cocktail shrimp) which was ok and my daughter ordered 2 orders of oysters. The artichokes came timely. It was kind of a bit of a wait for the tableside shrimp cocktail. The oysters were still not there. The server finally came over and asked about the Oysters (the set up came about 20 minutes before) and we said she never got them. She came back to inform us that they were on their way and the first order was stolen. Another excuse. She ate a few and they didn't taste right. At this point we were there for an hour and 15 minutes with only appetizers served so we asked for our check for what we ate and drank. The manager came over and we just simply wanted our check and wanted to get out. He offered a to fix the wrong and explained they were only there for a week (yet another excuse hmm) and offered us a gift card. I declined as we were there to celebrate our daughter's birthday and wanted to pay for what we ate and drank. We waited another 5-10 minutes for what I believe was the GM And he again offered us a gift card and to comp our tab so far. I refused as we are not there to get something for free and just wanted a nice night. They again gave us the gift card which my husband accepted and directly gave it to our daughter whos birthday dinner it was (she will use at Moonfish). He then agreed to have them charge us for a soda so we could tip the server who apologized and cried which tells us this is a normalcy for them. Nice restaurant with some problems. It took three tries to get the blasting music turned down to reasonable levels. The nice server uniforms of white shirt, vest and bow ties was spoiled by a server with a bizarre haircut. Lamb chops, which were supposed to be 1"-1 1/2" thick, were skimpy and overcooked. It had been years since I dined at Fishbones and even then it was at the Sanlake Road location. I was at the Lake mary location this past weekend and it was very good. There wer six in our party and so there was quite a variety of dishes served up. First though, the atmosphere is pretty much upscale. Very beautiful, very inviting. The staff is very knowledgeable and will work to make your dining experience all that you want it to be. I had a filet with scallops on the side and it was outstanding. My wife had the shirmp/scallops and she said it was very good. This particular dish is scampi-style and it had more of a hearty presentation and was not what I would consider "light". If you are hungry it will satisfy. Our friends had steak and the steak is aged so it has a different texture and taste. It's still very good but you will not wanty it overcooked. My daughter likes steak and order the kids kabobs but wasn't used to the particular taste. They took it back and made her another dishes tight away so the night was saved. The wine list is very large and makes for a complete experience. Fishbones is still top notch! read more

After a disheartening New Year's Eve dinner at Fishbones, we were invited back by the Lake Mary GM Andrea Sutton for dinner last night. Each guest who returned with us agreed it was one of the most outstanding dinners any of us have ever experienced. Our server, Shengyu, was incredible and the most attentive waiter we've had since living in Florida for 4 years. Both the food & service was exceptional. Ms. Sutton provided the 9 of us a private dining room which only added to our unique experience. Thanks to Ms. Sutton, her management, staff and Shengyu we'll soon be back. The food, service and courtesy afforded to us on this night restored my faith in Fishbones as a 1st class restaurant in this area. read more

This was my first time trying FishBones and I was extremely pleased with just everything. The decor was classy and understated and the aquariums throughout the building were entertaining but not tacky. Our server was a lovely & informative and I always ask lots of questions and opinions of servers :) I had the seafood alfredo pasta which was fantastic and I am really picky and fussy about my sauce - fellow diners had the BBQ ribs and the other a Surf N Turf meal and we all chose to have that night's special of a lobster tail added to our entree for and extra $5.99 and they were yummy!. The cheese & herb bread that they serve with the meal is to die for and I would have been tempted to ask for a 3rd basket if I had not stuffed myself on dinner- which I also took home leftovers from so that i could split a piece of chocolate cake with friends while another person had the creme brulee. Cool spot with a huge outdoor patio. Food is a little pricey, but that is their market. Food is exceptional. The best prices are during happy hour which is when we normally go. We went to Fishbones Lake Mary Saturday night for my wife's birthday. There were 13 in our party, reservation at 7:30. Finally sat down at 8:00 pm. Our servers were Noah (I think that's his name) and Patrick. My biggest take away from our night was the upselling and the attitude of distain I felt from the management. At every turn, the servers were (attempting) to upsell us on something. We live close by, and all have good jobs, but they treated us like tourist who don't have a full grasp of the exchange rate. If they could of vacuumed the money out of our pockets I think they would have. And the water. I had to ask 3 times for a glass of water. Had it been bottled water that they could charge for, johnny-on-the-spot. The servers tried to upsell a 6 oz. filet with 2 prawns on top as a special. When one of the guys in our party asked for the price, a lot of hemming and hawing, like "if you have to ask, well...." He eventually came up with $82.00, which makes the prawns $22.00 each or so. Then, after ordering, the guy in our party was asked if he would like a house or caesar salad. Pretty standard question in a restaurant. The server said the Caesar was very good and the dressing is made in house. No mention of an upcharge. What showed up was the size of an entry salad, and an additional fee of course. Nothing at all was offered to my wife for her birthday. Not asking for something free here, but some sort of acknowledgement is normally done. Especially when you drop $855.00. Food was ok but not worth dealing with these clowns. I didn't even mention the incompetent management, but I am sick of typing. There are too many good restaurants out there to waste your time and money at Fishbones. I will never go back, and that sentiment is shared by the other 12 in our party. read more
