Fish on Fire is my go to place for fish and chips in Glebe. Others have come and gone but failed to do what Fish on Fire does so successfully: produce quality product with undeniable freshness for minimum cost. I always end up getting the same things on rotation here, either the Salt and Pepper Squid ($7) or Tempura Prawn ($10). The Salt and Pepper Squid is scored, lightly crumbed and served on a small bed of greens (read: a little lettuce and a bit of shaved carrot). You get 6 decent sized squid. The Tempura Prawn (serving of five) is lightly battered and served with chips. Both come with sweet chilli sauce, although I never use it. Neither option drips with excess oil like regular take away fish and chip joints, but I still wouldn't hesitate to add a side of Greek Salad ($4.50) to help prolong a self-induced heart attack (although it is nothing you can't whip up yourself at home). A special shout out goes to the beer battered chips, with the right amount of crunch and smooth, fluffy inside. Paired with some of the best chicken salt in Sydney, it is hard to go wrong.

When it comes to Fish on Fire, I don't know why I dragged my feet for so long. I had two credible Glebe-local friends who swear by the place. I heard it was cheap, I heard the portions were great, I heard it was delicious. So just the other night, I finally tried out that famous fiery fish. I squeaked in just before they were closing and luckily I was permitted to order take away. i asked the cashier which fish was freshest. He pointed to the snapper special- fillet of fish, salad and chips for $15.50. It was one of the more expensive meal options available, but I took it anyway. They moved pretty quick getting the fish grilled and chips fried. When ready, I carried myself and my plastic take away bag on home in great anticipation. Opening the box I was immediately satisfied with the portion. The fillet was huge and could have easily fed two people my size (or me for dinner and me again for lunch the next day). I found the fish to be incredibly fresh and well seasoned. I was glad I chose to get it grilled and not fried so the flavours could pop. The chips were deliciously crispy and lightly salted. Possibly even hand cut? In total, my meal was great. I will definitely be going back to Fish on Fire soon.

Man, the fish here is really on fire! This place has a reputation for having some of the best fish and chips in the city. It's funny, because when I tell people that I live in Glebe, they automatically bring up Fish On Fire as if it's synonymous with the suburb. It took me a couple of months to actually stop here, though I did notice the crowds every time I would pass by. Now I understand what everyone is talking about when they laud this place for their seafood. The menu isn't just fish and chips, but there's also tempura prawns, calamari, and a bunch of grilled fish. If you're on a diet, better grab the latter. I assure you that it will be fresh. But the shining platter really is the fish and chips. The chips excellently fried, and were so crispy, it almost seemed like they were breaded. The fish was also lightly breaded and fried golden. My only gripe about this place is that tartar sauce is not gratuitous, neither is ketchup. Other than that, I can't complain about the price.

I am the furthest from a vegetarian that you could get (I had ribs for lunch today,) so I was pretty skeptical about how a veggie burger would taste...my skepticism was unfounded because I have to admit it was a pretty good burger. I ordered an original Big Burger meal with no mustard and soy bacon. I thought blasphemy, bacon cannot be soy...but I was the blasphemous one for doubting the Lord (of the Fries.) For the fries I had the original fries (chunky + sweet potato available,) ordered Belgian mayo and Vietnamese mayo (spicy chili) on the side. The Belgian mayo was alright, but the Vietnamese mayo was bomb.com. The fries are double cooked and definitely some of the better fries I've had in Sydney...my favourite fries have been from Ogalo's, but Lord of the Fries gives it a run for its money...I will need to do some more taste testing with their other sauces. If you've been to America, I'd say that Lord of the Fries reminds me of a vegetarian Five Guys since the fries are very similar in taste and quality (minus Cajun fries) and they both offer burgers and hot dogs. The nostalgia may have influenced my review a bit...so take that into consideration. If you don't want to wait in a queue for a super long time, go in the arvo or after their official launch on Aug. 29th. Praise the Lord (of the Fries!!!) ***Update: I went again to try their hot dogs and ordered the Chicago dog. If you're a fan of hot dogs and a carnivore I would skip the hot dog and get the burger, it tastes bland and it's a bit "off," most likely missing the meat taste. If you're a vegetarian and really want a hot dog then order to your hearts content.

Just getting started so I'll go again when the place has settled in .....depending on what the lab finds. I really dont need to find a great hot chip place.

This review is for their Chicken Kebab. I wanted lamb, but chicken is the only type of kebab they have. SERVICE: Both employees were busy making pizzas and didn't notice I walked into the restaurant. It took 15mins to get my Chicken Kebab done... That's unusually long for a kebab QUALITY: Below mediocre! The chicken was bland and my veggies were so soggy from the watered down bbq sauce. I was not impressed whatsoever, but forced myself to finish it since I hate throwing away food. VALUE: $8 for a below mediocre kebab is not good value. There's a much better kebab shop near Mamas on Liverpool between Sussex and a George. They have all types of meat! Now I better try the pizzas sober...
