Some tackle lined the walls, along with a few freezers containing frozen anchovy, sardine, lamprey, shad, and assorted invertebrate bait. I approached the counter and Sharon helped me out. They were "out" of regular bloodworms, and only had jumbos, apparently. For a considerable mark-up, I ordered a dozen. She hand picked them from a large bin, and having fished with blood worms my whole life, there didn't seem to be anything jumbo about them from my experience. Either way, I paid for my bait, bout a small styrofoam bait cooler for a couple days camping to keep them alive, and out the door I went. I think I paid a few cents extra for using my card, but after dropping $30 on a dozen bloodworms and a couple bags of frozen 'chovy, what's the difference? Shrugged it off as a vacation expense, and used that bait to catch hundreds of fish... sure, only one of them was legal, but had a great time in Rio Vista proper, and will likely return in the future for fun on the Sacramento River.

The bathrooms are kept clean and best of all is that it has free showers. We camped in June and it was very windy at night. The camp hosts are very strict and circle around every 15mins. But it's ok, we love that they have a volley ball area and the beach nice and clean. We will definitely come here again to camp.

Walked in from Willow campground, settled in, and immediately felt that "why haven't we done this before" feeling. After dinner we hiked through Cottonwood campground and found a trail out the backside with a panoramic view that made the whole trip. The sunsets here are next level. Saturday's weather was perfect; we fished, caught and released a few nice ones, and just relaxed. The day-use and launch area was recently repaved and is in great shape. Now, the honest stuff: Friday was extremely windy (upside...zero mosquitos). The mosquitos showed up Saturday night, which is just nature doing its thing. The bigger nuisances were neighbor-related: a big group of kids with flashlights running around until 3am Night 1, and someone blasting bass while cruising the campground multiple times Night 2. Not the campground's fault, just worth knowing if you're a light sleeper or in a tent. Bathrooms: one was consistently clean, one was hit or miss. Toilet paper ran out and the exterior water spigot wasn't functional. Landscaping could use attention. Camp hosts were around but hands-off, no complaints, just not super visible. Bottom line: beautiful location, great fishing, gorgeous views and sunsets. The infrastructure needs a little TLC but nothing that would stop us from coming back. We'll be back for sure.

But it is Devery and her team who make the place magical. The large, modern marina building has luxury hotel quality bathrooms and showers, a massive deck with tables and complimentary gas grill for guests to use and an air conditioned lounge with extensive book and movie libraries. The docks are in excellent shape, are very stable, with water and electricity at each double-fingered slip. A weekly mobile pump out service is also available. The extensive property includes shaded picnic areas, complimentary bikes and SUPs and a gym. And best of all, a beautiful vegetable garden and chicken coop! Farm fresh veggies and eggs are given to guests daily and are such a wonderful treat. Visiting Hastings Island Hunting Preserve is an experience! It's located on an island in the Delta…read more The island is a working ranch. The hunting preserve is located within the ranch. They release pheasants into the fields and hunters and their dogs hunt them. They don't plant birds. They release them from a truck and the birds fly into the cover. The fields have plenty of cover year-round. You pay for each bird you bag. They have a bird cleaning service and it seems most hunters use it. I do too. The preserve has trained dogs in their kennel. Those who don't have a hunting dog can rent one for their hunt. I think they also offer dog training as a service. Check with them about that. During the off-season, the preserve is open for dog training. Many AKC breed clubs host AKC hunt tests there on weekends. In addition to the hunting and bird dog training, the hunting preserve has a snack bar and a trap range. I highly recommend HIHP!

Last minute getaway limited places for us to stay…read more All the state parks are booked (Or on fire, or filled with soot). Found this place on the Hipcamp app found nearby hiking, that's a wrap! Packed the car and off we went hoping for a weekend well-spent. Likely Terri will warmly greet you curious cows eager to meet you. Camping spots exposed, no shade. But adequate for the price we paid. Two outhouses, clean water to drink. A very large and useful outdoor sink. Incredible sunset, crickets at night. Fresh coffee served at morning light.

If you not able to book via hip camp give them a call and book over the phone. It is 100% possible to engage in social distancing while staying here. They sale firewood with a fire starter for $20. Coffee is prepared at 5AM. eggs,honey and lavender are all grown and sold by the host as well Quiet hour begins at 10PM but there is enough personal space for you to still be up Feel free it bring your own wood Pros: Bait shop is a 10 min minute walk River for swimming kyaking and fishing is about a 10minute drive Fire ring for camp fires Sink for washing dishes and brushing teeth is avaliable Cows chickens and sheep on the property It is very peaceful Each campsite comes with a fire ring and picnic table .. so bring all your usual camping supplies The only con: I would say the portable potties could be cleaned or dumped more often when there are a lot of guest

Decided to make a fishing trip to one of my go-to marinas the other day only to find out it was…read morerecently acquired in 2019 and under a whole new management team. What was formerly Brennan Island Time Marina is now Brothers Island Marina.... I decided to march forward into my fishing expedition and check out what has changed and to my surprise there were many modifications and great additions to the property. What I noticed immediately, was a BRAND NEW handicap accessible shower and restroom facility. All the dead trees and shrubs looked like they were removed to provide a clean, updated and maintained landscape. What used to be a purely marina is now populated with folks hanging out for the day with picnic activities. This placed looked lively for the first time and could almost pass as a campground or daily play area for just a lovely picnic with the family while the men go out to the delta to fish. I ended up purchasing a boat slip for the day, but I think with the recent additions to the Marina, I may end up renting a permanent spot to park my boat.
