This shop is one of the best things to happen to Ossining in ages. It is TRULY a community space. They make coffee with NY coffee roasters -- exclusively -- and make the best latte in Westchester County. If you're looking for a treat, get the "churro" latte, which is a sweet sip of awesome. Otherwise, their single origin selections or a pour-over are just right. Let's put it this way: after I left First Village last weekend, I thought, "Could I really move to Ossining just because of a coffee shop?" Ha! First Village is a good 35-40 min drive from NYC; by train, a 15 minute walk from the Ossining station on the Hudson line (Metro North). It boasts a friendly community vibe AND the best chai latte I've ever had (not overly sweet.) The decor is quirky: if "subversive but fun" was the theme they were going for, well, they nailed it! There is ample indoor and outdoor seating, too. Don't explore this slice of the Hudson Valley without stopping here for a cuppa. You'll be glad you did. read more

I've been to First Village countless times and cannot recommend it enough. It was the first coffee shop I discovered when I moved to Ossining and it's a beautiful, hidden gem in a small town. The owners are incredibly friendly - they remember you after a few times and make you feel like a local even if it's your first time there. The aesthetics of the shop are always changing (the shop features different artists on rotation) but always cozy and warm. I haven't had a drink, hot and cold, here that I haven't loved. You can add flavor shots to anything (the churro is different and yummy) and their matcha latte and hot chocolate are my favorites. I was getting tired of the few cafes around Tarrytown and decided to venture a little further north. We found this cafe first on Yelp and after glancing through the reviews, decided it would be a good place to take our studies. The cafe is on the smaller side, but has plenty of seating and standing room. They have also have free wifi here; you just have to ask the barista for the code. This is definitely a great spot to study if you are a student living in the area! We arrived in the late morning, and the pastry cabinet looked sparse, so we ended up just ordering coffee. I do want to note that they have both savory and sweet pastry options though. I went with a latte, which was beautifully poured and tasted great. They brew Irving Farm coffee, so I'm sure any of their espresso drinks will meet the standard of even the most discerning of coffee drinkers. I appreciated that the owners seemed very involved in running the business and keeping the cafe clean and tidy. I was also thankful that we were not rushed to finish our coffee or turn over our table even with the foot traffic that continued to increase into the early afternoon. Parking may be a hassle on weekdays, but there is a municipal parking lot with a three-hour limit just a block down the street! read more

Spectacular coffee! I wish I lived closer I'd be here everyday. I had a cortado and I loved that it was served on a wooden board with sparking water and a spoon. It's just those little details that make the experience so special! It was brilliant. I had a Macha raspberry scone that was lovely as well. My latte was excellent and my kids wanted to have plain croissant but they was all out already but we decided to order ham and cheese croissant and they loved it. why I think 4 starts is because I would love to have some more breakfast options. The best almond croissants I've ever had (even those I've had in Paris)! Balanced selection of both sweet and savory pastry options - all were absolutely divine! As were the 8 oz lattes. In fact, this is one of the very few places I've seen offer 8 oz coffee options. This is wonderful because 12 oz always just dilutes the coffee with too much milk for me. Went back two mornings in a row! New music playing on the record player every day. Cute room in the back. LOVE that they don't provide wi-fi!! I absolutely love this place! The people working here are truly amazing and treat each of their customers with care. They make this space inviting where they show interest to engage in an conversation with you as they prep your drink. I love their dirty chai latte with oat milk. Their lattes are always freshly made to go and they ensure the drink is adequately and uniquely designed as they pour the espresso into the foam milk - it's always entertaining to watch this. Their pastries are heavenly!!! And they even have vegan options! This place is just so chill and unlike the other coffee shops in the county. This coffee shop truly embraces diversity and care about the community. I cannot say enough good things about this place. It has such a pleasant energy. I work up the road so often walk over for a cappuccino and a cookie or a pour over and a muffin. Luis is wonderful and gives personal recommendations. Today he was working with a newer girl was training, Ruby, who was extremely polite, and friendly. The quality of coffee and lattes here is top notch. Some of my coworkers have complained about price, but it is very fair for the high quality beans they use. I'd also gladly support a family owned shop rather than a Starbucks etc. If you like Starbucks, you won't like this place. Starbucks pales in comparison. There's a true family and community feeling here. I've had several different baked goods that were all wonderful. Customer service is outstanding, and options are ample if you ask the barista for recommendations and don't already see something if interest to you up on the menu. I really am sad that my office is moving to a new location because I'll miss this place. I personally buy shade grown fair trade coffee whenever possible and this place really puts care and thought into their selection and offerings. read more

Hands down best coffee shop experience First some highlights: outdoor seating, friendly staff, pastries, and probably the best damn latte you'll ever have Stepping into first village brought me back to Manhattan, a mix of customers from young students on their macs, to a mother and daughter enjoying cookies. Everyone was so friendly exchanging smiles with me as I make my way to the counter, once there the gentleman behind the register was quick to greet me, let me know I can ask him anything, and was more than happy to give me some extra time to see what I wanted. They have a great menu, short which in my opinion means you're about to get something excellent. I ordered an iced churro latte This is what I except a latte to taste like every time I order a latte anywhere. I got hints of the fresh coffee meeting the flavors of brown sugar and totally taste bud awesomeness of sweet flavoring. Now the ham and cheese croissant In my opinion could of had more cheese and hams however I am one to over eat and I know I'm probably the only one to think this. I stopped by here a while back. I really liked the service there! The baristas were super nice and friendly. I got a pour-over coffee, I forgot which beans though sadly, but they were delicious. It would be nice if they had Japanese iced coffee/Pour over iced coffee (Or it was an option you had to ask for.) Other than that, I really liked my experience there! This was my first time in Ossining and I stopped in around 8:00- Luis and his staff are amazing. They gave me parking tips, and were so warm and welcoming. The cashier was helpful in finding out details of the pastries for my allergy concerns, which I truly appreciate. I tried the seasonal rosewater and fig latte with oatmilk and it was amazing, I didn't have to add a thing to it. I also had the Paris Tea scone, which was not overly sweet and complemented my drink well. While Luis was making lattes, a family came in with a little kid who was running around a little- Luis was laughing and made the family feel welcome. The kid ordered his muffin and seemed very pleased with the service as well! The kid wasn't being a distraction, but being a parent, it is nice to see shop owners welcoming to children and creating a comfortable environment for parents to come and enjoy the much needed caffeine. read more
