We started our meals with pineapple mimosas. My wife ordered the hash skillet (eggs, steak, country potatoes). She enjoyed the salsa that dresses it. I ordered the chorizo scramble. Mine came with tortillas, toast and hash brown. The scramble was well seasoned and the hash brown was crispy. I enjoyed my meal down to the coffee. My friends and I visited First Toast for restaurant week. Our server, Evelia (sp) was wonderful. I had never had chicken fried steak, so I seized the moment, and now I realized I've been missing out! It was tender and flavorful. The toast came with homemade strawberry/blueberry jam. If it was socially acceptable, I would have licked the dish, it was that good! I mentioned we had a lot of food, I had a bite of the lemon ricotta pancake... definitely will be back for that as well as the steak. My friends wouldn't shut up about their food either... so good! It's subpar at best maybe mediocre. The ribeye steak was extremely tough and difficult to chew. The French toast was just okay. The food is aesthetic looking but the taste pales in comparison. My primary reaction here was disappointment. My first impression was flavorless which is not the first word that comes to mind when you think comida Mexicano. Chips and salsa, with a small serving of tasty black bean frijoles, looked great, but the chips had not a hint of corn taste and the watery salsa was invisible. Nothing there. The fish tacos were enormous, ok, and topped with a lovely salad of shredded cabbage and tomatoes but again, I'm chewing it, it's in my mouth but I am not tasting anything. No cilantro, no jalapeño, no corn, no fish. Weird. The sauce with it was actually pretty tasty but I don't eat fish tacos for the sauce. And I have had good Spanish rice in my time but this was not it. My wife's chicken Caesar had not a hint of anchovy paste, well grilled chicken and was just lettuce-y. We had to chase her down to get refills and extra napkins. She took forever to bring our bill, we went to the front. We sat inside the covered area, literally right next to the outside patio door. It wasn't too crispy and kind of cold when I got it. My other friends ordered the french toast and the chicken fajitas. The chicken fajita was dry and needed more flavor. We asked the server to bring verde sauce which helped loads! The mimosa flight came with 4 drinks which you can choose the flavors! I say this was a worth it item. $32 for a mimosa flight!! I planned a day of wine tasting in the area but knew we had to eat first. After googling breakfast spots in Lodi I settled for First Toast and am SO glad I did. The directions were easy to follow and they have their own parking area. It is shared with another business so be sure to read the signs. We were greeted and sat immediately. Upon first glance the seating seems small but I also couldnt see the back of the restaurant around the corner, there could have been more tables. We started off with mimosas which were amazing! Some flavor they offer that I haven't seen before were the pineapple jalepeno, cranberry & rosemary and a hibiscus lavender. I o ky had time to try the pineapple jalepeno which I really enjoyed. It wasn't too spicy. I had the applewood chicken sausage scramble with potatoes and sourdough toast for breakfast and it was amazing! I was so impressed.
